View Full Version : If you didn't buy anymore cigars

at your current rate of consumption how long would your cigars hold out?
Using a close estimate of cigars, I have enough to last 4.3 years. I rarely buy cigars and this past year have bought very few, compared to the 2 years prior to that. Just curious where others have decide to slow down on the spending and just enjoying?
Plus I didn't figure a new thread would hurt anything.👍

I'd say probably about 3.75 years for me.
Interesting thread Steve

AT my current rate of smoking, I have about 1 year 3 months worth of cigars on hand. I refuse to do massive storage again.

I'm not so blessed, but after less than a year, about 39 days. Yes, you read that correct. We all have a beginning (me) and a end point (you guys). But, excellent question. I'm done.

At my current rate of smoking, I would say I have about 7-8 years worth

I estimate that mine would last at least 5 years at my present rate of consumption, which averages about 2-3 a week. Good post; makes me realize I need to do an inventory of my cigars.
For pipe tobacco, I have enough for the rest of my life and then some.

My best guesstimate would be about 2 years.

A bit over a year currently at 3 a week. I plan on increasing that number over the next year or so.

Man, I just got an Aging Vault Humidor and filled it to up, about 600 cigars. but at the rate I smoke, that won't last me a year

Sounds to me like you are doing pretty good. I remember when I first started enjoying an occasional cigar I had a small cheap leaky humidor and stocked it with 8-10 cheap cigars.

Agreed. When I first started it was a Tupperware with 3-4 cigars in it max.
Probably 13-14 years of cigars at this point. I hoarded pretty hardcore before my son was born, I figured cigar money was going to be cut dramatically.

I'm hanging onto about 5 years of cigar backlog at this point. I'll go through phases (like months in a row) where I do good with no purchasing, and then as WNYTONY knows, I'll for whatever reason hop on cbid and have a bidding orgy and end up with 80-100 cigars showing up to my house. It's like a drunk being let back into a bar when I get on cbid. It's never pretty.

With out doing any math, I'd say I have a couple months right now. Money has been tight lately, but I am expecting a raise soon plus my wife graduates in December hopefully she can find a job to at least pay her student loans and I plan to start buying more cigars.

Since I usually only have about one a week, plus one a day while vacationing or camping, I probably have close to 5 years on hand...which is apparently about a month's supply for cheaphumidors Kayla...:poke:

If you asked this about 12 months ago I would have said approx 3.5 years (at 5 a week). Unfortunately this year has been a rough one financially so I have bought almost no new cigars while also selling/giving away many. I just did a quick count and would say I am down to around 6 months supply. OMG this is seriously tragic LOL

Yea. I used to say "I only smoke for work." I don't think I can get away with that line anymore :)

I'd say around 3 years worth which is full capacity for my coolers & humidors.
Probably around three or four years. Unfortunately I buy more then I smoke and depending on the month and work schedule there be weeks before I get to enjoy a stick or two.

I probably have 10+ years, and as I don't have any regular schedule for smoking these days, sometimes 1 a week, sometimes 2, sometimes none, sometimes 5.... it's really hard to say.
Pretty sure I have more than I'll need though- and it doesn't keep me from buying more :loco:

Crazy question as I had been toggling hobbies with brewing beer consuming the lions share of the funding and trying to just stay ahead of the game with smokes, which hasn't been quite the juggling act since I'm far away from an outdoor shooting range to shoot my black powder smokey guns. But things became tight for what was supposed to be a just a couple of months or so. It's lasted a little longer though with the light just ahead again (the ole carrot trick?).
Initially I didn't smoke that often maybe one to three a month, but that didn't last all that long and ended up being one to three a week. And so I've reduced my consumption accordingly. However, as the light at the end keeps moving further, much like the summit, I've begun to consider my options as I always keep my personal stash of cash for minor emergencies, which, to me, this qualifies as. The bundle of Olivia's have kept me afloat.
And so I've changed the way I've dealt with my hobbies (knowing it was coming) but am changing my view overall in that you just don't know what's in store, and cigars are more interesting to me and so my funding shouldn't be quite so one sided, though I still LOVE brewing beer (and drinking it).
At any rate I have 3-6 weeks depending on how I choose to smoke. And doing an all day smokin' meats and drinking beer I felt a smoke was called for, right, which is beneficial to the group as it's the last Oliva, though I also learned I think I'd prefer a bundle of Cargos for the same price.

My number of cigars smoked per week varies depending on time of year/ work schedule, but best guess is I have about 6-7 years worth. I went for a long stretch recently without buying anything new, but Jesse jhedrick83 kept posting about damn flash sales and I couldn't resist.

Haven't acquired too many cigars of late, just a handful here or there. What I have currently would last about 6-9 months. Hmmm, about a year ago, I thought I would have enough for 2-3 years. What happened?

Me, never kept a count. I usually buy at least a box per month, plus ocasional trips to couple other b&ms and the internet. Right now, I'd estimate about 230 or so; at one a day, that's what have left.

My smoking is very seasonal. During the summer I will have quite a few during a week and in the winter I will have some weeks where I have none. I think I average about 2 a week year round so I have about a 4.5 year supply. That number keeps going up because I seem to constantly be buying more than I can smoke. I have had more play money over the last couple years so I have taken advantage and stocked up. My wineador and both humidors are full which helps cause if I had more storage it would certainly be getting full also.

Actually Old Smokey, after reading your response I actually felt better. Always good to know that others have walked this well-worn path. Nothing new under the sun, I guess. Thanks.
P.S. I walked into my old BnM and spotted a beautiful humidor. Felt like the kid who saw his first high end car and said someday, it was $275 on sale. Realized, that was high cotton, and thought some day-motivation & life goals (sadly, not a fan of made in Japan humidors, but what are you going to do? )

Probably 2-3 years. I don't smoke that often. I usually find things I like and want to save them for "special occasions" vs a daily /weekly smoke

Less than a year for me. I don't keep a huge inventory. I figure the B&Ms and online warehouses are doing a perfectly fine job of it :)

Might be a good idea to check with Droy, Smokin Monkey might be out raiding Humidors while his (S. M's) girlfriend and Droy are whiling away the wee hours.
