The title is a lil misleading...I know I am not doing anything wrong but figured it would get some interest..so..

A couple yrs ago I was gifted a Liga Privada #9 and it was an okay smoke...I wasn't blown away and wasn't headed out to pick a few more to store...

I picked up a couple from the local shop last yr and lit one up yesterday at my lil sisters graduation BBQ and again it was just a so-so smoke to me..

I know it's not just me but there is so much good review for the LP line but I would rather spend the money on the undercrown line...

I have a Ratzilla I picked up that may end in fire today but I am a lil gun shy due to the previous LPs being a let down of sorts...not a bad cigar but in my opinion not worth the premium...

Am I doing something wrong?? Do they need more or less than or temp? I normally try for 60/60 but it's not something I stress about...

I know there are going to be sticks I don't enjoy that's not the basis of this post..it's more of conversation starter..

I found they're better fresh after they have acclimated to 65 RH....

I'm in agreement that the LP 9 is a nice smoke but doesn't live up to the hype. I feel the T52 is their better regular production stick. And from my reading, the LP regular production is better smoked fresh.
Now when you delve into their Unicos line I'm not sure how downtime affects them. I've had the ratzilla, UF 13, L 40 & the Feral Flying Pig (my personal fave of all LP's).
Now if you look at the other DE lines the Undercrown, JdN & Nica Rustica are great sticks, especially for their price point.

My experience is similar to those already posted. I much prefer the T52, and the few LP9s I've had, were better fresh. I've had a fresh one that was pretty darn good; and a few aged ones from 1-2 years that weren't bad; but didn't live up to the hype.

I've had a couple of the 9s and they just aren't one of my personal favorites. I prefer the Undercrown coronas of all the DE lines. Oddly enough, Papas Fritas are my second favorite, and I thought they were supposed to be a mini-9, made from rollings scraps or something. They taste different to me, but maybe it's just the vitola.

My experience with all the Ligas I've smoked is that if they've rested more then 6 months they lose their punch and mellow out a considerable amount. So I tend to smoke the Ligas fairly quickly. Just my $.02.

Ligas are kinda acquired taste. I like the earthy and hint of sweet in LP 9. I find the Undercrown to be better bang for buck, but if you're looking for something that delivers the taste, you really can't go wrong with LPs. I do like smoking it every once in a while, but I do find it a little pricey.

In my opinion, these are yet another expensive ceegar that simply isn't worth the price. Yeah, it's a decent stick. Is it worth three or four times more than a lotta other sticks? Oh, heck no.

I like the Ligas #9 but know that not everybody has a taste for them which is probably why there are so many other brands around. Our sense of taste isn't a carbon copy of others as we all have our differences. Maybe if they become unpopular enough they will decrease the cost of them but I know better than that. My tastes tend to run for the more expensive brands.

To me the Undercrown is the best in price/flavor. Other LP's tend to leave me feeling like while it was not bad I paid how much for this? On the rare occasion I am in the mood for more than a Undercrown I will reach for a UF-13. There is nothing wronging with you. There are plenty of highly reviewed lines that done match up to everyone's taste preference. You just need to find that ones that do.

I am somewhat of a recovering LP whore. The first No 9 I had was amazing. I think its due to my changing palette but I am not that crazy about them now. I also prefer the T52 over the 9. At the moment I can't smoke enough of the L40. And I do agree that most of them are best smoked fresh. But I did have a UF13 that had at least a year on it and the thing was fabulous.

i am a bit of a liga whore and the LP line was meant to be smoked fresh. sad part is i think may shops have older boxes because of the higher price point they carry. as of now i prefer the 9 to the t52 but i can not judge too hard because the two t52s i had where rott and the 9s i have had where all acclimated to my 62% humidor. i think a lot of the lp following isnt because the cigars are extraordinary but because they are good and they like the "liga lifestyle" lol fire up that ratzilla at some point and let us know what you think. right now i am loving the dirty rat and the ratzilla

I did a blind 'review' of the no. 9 and I was not overly impressed. It had moments of greatness, but something was very... rustic about it. Not refined enough for us snobby aficionados, I suppose! UF-13 is candy though. I also have a hookup for L-40s at around $12 a pop currently.

Again thank you all for your opinions and insight. i love the undercrown line and the MUWAT and the Kentucky Fired Cure so I know there are DE sticks I enjoy.

Seems like fresh is the way to go and if the weather holds maybe I will smoke the Rat I have..

Actually I have grown very fond of the KFC's. I thought I would hate them since I have not liked any of the other fire cured I tried. And I would definitely light up that Rat sooner than later

The only time I tried them I did this & it was a remarkably melodramatic moment. It wasn't bad but it didn't make me want to try one ever again. But to each his own!

I purchased one a couple years ago, as I had to see what the hype was about. It was a good cigar, but doesn't have the bang for the buck. Since then, I've received a few in bombs, plus my wife went to the local B&M at Christmas time and told them she wanted the good stuff for her husband and they sold her a fiver of them. I was very appreciative, but I would've spent the money on something else. I have to love her for doing it and made lots of yummy noises while smoking them...

There was a time when I smoked #9s but at that time you could get them in the $8-9 price range. Once they passed $10 I stopped because at that price point there were many better smokes like Fuente Anejos, Opus X and Padron 64s. The #9 is a good smoke but not a $10 plus smoke... of course that is just this one old guys opinion.

I have only smoked a handful of LP and other DE cigars. I didn't care for the 9, thought the 40 was very good, along with the UC Corona Viva. And made it about 1/2 way thru the KFC. In general I would say I am not a fan and don't buy them. I do remember reading a while back that several people preferred LP at a higher Rh (say67-68) and fresh is best. Who knows as everyone's taste and pref differ.

I have probably smoked more LP No.9 robustos than any other cigar. They are my #1 go to cigar when I can't decide on a selection to smoke, which happens quite often. For me it is the consistency that the cigar has and I have come to expect, never a bad cigar. I have been fortunate enough to keep enough in my stash that I can replentish only when they go on sale, so I'm able to get them for Undercrown prices. If I had to pay close to retail on these... no way and I'd switch to smoking Warped Corto's, which are my #2 go to. Weird, I don't care for T52, KFC or MUWAT but do like the Nica Rustica.
