View Full Version : Happy place

I'm sitting on my porch enjoying a cigar and some bourbon with heavy rain coming down. No music no company, just the sound of the rain and some birds. I really enjoy the social aspect of cigars but there's something incredibly peaceful about a great cigar and relaxing with nature. The only other thing that comes close to this is the crackle of a fire and the stars above. Sorry for going straight hippie on you guys but it's just a reminder that life can be so hectic and crazy you have to enjoy those moments when they come along.
Do any of you guys have a happy place? What's your favorite way to enjoy a cigar?

Same for me, I love sharing one with a few friends on the golf course and at the 19th hole but there is something to be said for the back porch by myself. For me with the age of my kids an hour of solitude is hard to come by even on the weekends. Add a cigar in there and it's even better.

I'm slowly working on my happy place in the basement. Until then my happy plave will have to be outside on one of our decks. It's great to enjoy a cigar and some beer while listening to the sounds of nature.
Unfortunately today that means the aound of some rather vocal crows.

I generally open up the doors on the detached garage. I don't often drink with a smoke but do enjoy it from time to time with rye whiskey being my favorite.
I love the sound of rain and watching electrical storms. Fire is always awesome as are the sounds of nature and sight of stars and the moon, which my daughter has always been quite interested in (had to get an app for star gazing).
We've always enjoyed primitive camping to get away from the noise.

My happy place is arguing over next year's budget lines at work and wishing I could smoke there. Oh, wait, that's my unhappy place. My happy place is having a cigar in the Shenandoah mountains with a rifle at my side while I'm pretending to hunt :)

Do you actually smoke a cigar while hunting? I'd be concerned it would ruin my odds, though where I hunt in TX they are so thick I could easily limit out (5) in a weekend if I wanted to do that much work (and call it quits).

Once I've determined that there are no deer around, then yes, I'll fire one up. We hunt on public lands mainly, where (1) there are no deer, and (2) the few that are there get spooked by the other hunters. We refer to it as "armed hiking." :)

Well damn! I'll accept armed hiking with a cigar.
Do you still hunt there? That's mostly how things work here, but if I know the lease is nearly empty and people go back to camp for lunch I begin to stalk.
And at this time I was a heavy smoker. I think I somehow resisted considering I was a chain smoker.

We travel a fair bit so there are many for me. Anywhere near Yellowstone works for me, Oregon coast, Longboat Key in Florida, Adirondack State Park
and my deck just to name a few. Maybe I don't need much to make me happy I guess. Always a good bourbon to go along with my cigar.

Front porch before anyone is awake. Or back deck staring at the stars when everyone is asleep. It was my local b&m but here lately has been full of a bunch of new guys that engage far too loud about subjects of which I have no interest.

I like smoking with friends but as I dont have many that smoke I find I am usually smoking by myself. I have learned to really enjoy that time with just me and my smoke. I have a man cave area in the garage with my tv and firepit setup that I enjoy especially during football season. I also have a covered porch that looks out over the runway of our local airport so on nice spring/summer days I really enjoy sitting out there watching all the small planes and helicopters come and go all day.
An extra chair or two can always be found in either location for friendly smokers.

Mine would have to be sitting around the campfire after a day of hunting, especially if one of us filled a tag...then it's a nice beer, some tenderloin on the grill and a tasty smoke.
Second to that would be sitting around the fire while just on a normal camping trip.

I'm usually in the garage alone with a book and a cigar if the weather is nice I'll sit out on the deck. When I get the chance though I love to sneak down to the neighborhood pond, especially if it's a week day and kids are in school drag a chair out on the dock and just sit in peace and quiet with a cigar and a cold beer. Having said that though the beach trumps it all especially if it's on the gulf coast where I grew up

I know that story! I have to go out of the house to escape the kids. When it's not freezing cold I like going for walks in Chicago. Otherwise smoking on the beach in California when it's still a little foggy out is my favorite place to relax with a good stick.

On a night when you just cant get to sleep and decide to smoke a cigar in a calm quiet place, above all you would not want have any distractions, just focuing solely on the cigar. For at least the first three quarters of it's duration this video seems to fit the bill.
And you wont loose anything if you watch it without audio.

Agree. Maybe not so much the book part, which my short attention span doesn't often want to commit to but you can't beat the feeling of a good morning smoke paired with coffee and the summer's climbing sun growing strong while nosing around in my perennial garden and being out back with birds, squirrels and the occasional deer getting on with their days. It is just a private slice of heaven. And near as I can tell, I may be the only regular cigar smoker in my whole neighborhood. Sometimes makes me self-conscious with passers-by or when out on my occasional "cigar walks" but they don't know what they're missin'. Plus, good thing we're all on big lots too. lol.

Good stuff right here. This is what our hobby is all about and those who don't know the pleasure of cigar smoking will never get this. I have several places I go to and my house has 5 patios where I can just "hide out" or most of the time I'll just sit out on my driveway with an end table...drink...cigar tools and my music for hours. When I take a trip ( usually to the ocean ) I'll walk the beach for a couple of hours aimlessly and will bump into another cigar smoker and it's funny that I'll bring an extra cigar and that person has an extra one as well and we do an exchange invariably. It's almost like an unspoken bond among us to share and having a 2 hour conversation with them makes a great start of the day. I'll end up seeing this same person the next morning and we'll be smoking our "gifted cigars" and replay the day before and what's coming up. My wife asks me when I get back...."Are you cheating on me with your new cigar friend?" Yes....yes I am!

Like that. 😁

What's your favorite way to enjoy a cigar?Wow, I just did this exact same thing a couple days ago! I wondered how many people would think I was crazy for sitting outside while the rain was coming down and here is this post from a couple years ago.
