Drinking Old Speckled Hen with a CAO Gold Corona I find its just maybe not quite right, though it doesn't clash.
I've only found one cigar that does do well with an IPA, which is Southern Draw Kudzu.
It seems a dark beer does fine with about anything. But what of the lighter styles, especially when a flavor is prominent such as hops or honey or something else?
It almost seems like a mild-med stick is called for in such an instance, but the Kudzu isn't that and it does quite well surprisingly.
What has been your experience?

Now that I'm further along I feel this beer has outshined the cigar. I'd almost swear this was a mild smoke as it just lost almost all flavor. But then the beer isn't quite pristine either as it's lightly muted, but nothing like my smoke.

Bob, I've been pretty stuck in a rut, albeit a tasty one, drinking stouts with my cigars. I will say though, that that's probably because I tend to smoke heavier cigars. I believe you've met my friend and mistress, Lady La Gloria

I never used to like beer with a cigar. I more liked root beer, coke, rum + coke or something else that was sweet (probably because early on the slightest nic content made me sick and my body was craving the sugar to try and recover :p :p but I digress...) Well one day I tried a very molassesy stout alongside a maduro cigar and found a winning combination - that same beer is good with a bowl of pipe tobacco too. I still don't like lighter beers with tobacco and I've never cared for IPAs anyway so take it for what it's worth.

I have enjoyed either a stout or a Belgian dark strong ale mostly with a variety of cigars. I've had an IPA a few times and it was fine, but IPA isn't my favorite beer so I usually don't go that way.

Stouts or Porters for me. That's about the only beer I like with a cigar. I can't drink an IPA anytime. Can't stand them.
I generally enjoy sweet iced tea with a cigar though. Don't know why, it just works for me.

Beers that are overly hoppy kill cigars for me. I prefer less hoppy pale ales like Bell's Two-Hearted ale. I usually stick with pale ales, ambers, porters, and milder stouts like milk or chocolate stouts. The lowest-rung beer would probably be Yuengling.

Sounds like I am on the fringe here. I frequently drink an IPA with my cigar. They seem to do well with the spicier cigars. Could be because that is my most frequent beer. Of course, stouts & porters do well too. Brown ales or scotch ales go good with rosados / habanos. Connecticuts I like with wheat's or other lighter ales. I had a hoppy wheat with a candela that seemed to fair well.
Oh, who am I kidding; anything goes as far as beer and a cigar. ;) :beerchug:

Nature: For those lighter styles would you say it seems to call for a milder stick? I was guessing mild or mild-med.
I'm curious what "spicier" stick it is you've found pairs with an IPA. I'm at a loss for what "spicier" is.
For a while I was only drinking rye whiskey with a cigar. Can't seem to go wrong there either.
