Tried smoking an obsidian tonight. Only got through an inch before getting rid of it. Just didn't Like it. So are the dark wrappers stronger? Kinda thinking of staying away from them. I like less nicotine in my smoke. Being newer to this just figured I'd ask.

Wrapper color is not an indication of strength.
As Ryan noted the color of the wrapper does not indicate the strength of the cigar. Here's a quick read:

No problem. The bums around hear are always glad to answer questions. Helps everyone out. I joined my first cigar forum because every time I did a good search about questions I had of cigars I kept finding great threads.

the darker the wrapper the stronger the cigar is basically a old wives tale. i personally love maduros and other dark wrappers and always have no cigar smokers ask me how i can smoke such a full strength cigar. the cigar international write up is a very nice little one that is easy to understand

If you have more of those Obsidian's, let them sit for at least a year and then revisit them!
You'll be asking if it's the same cigar.
As stated above, wrapper color does not equate to strength.

All correct.... However, cigar manufacturers often exploit the myth, using super dark wrappers on strong cigars, as if to reinforce a connection. I'm thinking Camacho, Partagas, and DE. Sure, it's partly for flavor but obviously marketing strategy, too.

Tru Dat! And draw slow. The black banded Obsidian (only one I've tried - the white banded one looks too much like a tampon/applicator to me) seems to overheat and taste resinous if you draw hard. However, with a nice slow draw it reminds me of smoking Bob's Chocolate Flake (minus the Lakeland soap)
Yep, I like the Obsidian and IMO they're a steal for the price. I don't know what they're like fresh since I don't smoke very often so most of my stash has been sitting around for quite a while before I get to it.

Exactly, a lot of companies play off of this since dark wrappers look more exotic & mysterious....
Just ask around before purchasing a cigar so you don't get knocked on your ass with a tidal wave of nicotine!

And it certainly has proven to work for them.

So I got a Camacho triple Maduro, is that going to whoop my ass? Thats the last of my non infused sticks. might look into gt a a 5er or 2 of mild ones just so I have something different than infused.

Strength will increase as you go from the lower leaves (volado) to the higher priming leaves (seco, ligero). The Oliva V is triple ligero, so try that if you want to feel like you've been kicked by a coked-out mule.

Ackshully... the over-fermenting that produces maduro leaves slightly reduces the nicotine content (or so I've read on the internet which never lies).
But as a poster upstairs pointed out, the commercial blenders do tend to put stronger leaves into maduro wrappers.
OTOH (there's always another hand), leaves that are darker from being closest to the sun, i.e., the top leaves, ligero, are stronger both in flavor and vitamin N. Yes, the dreaded triple maduro could make Chuck Norris cry.

cbr310, a good example of a light wrapper cigar that'll bust your butt is the Sucker Punch by Punch. It's exactly that, a sucker punch in a Connecticut wrapper. On the other end off the spectrum, some mild, easy smoking maduros are:
Macanudo maduro
Graycliff G2 maduro
Brick House maduro

The Oliva V is triple ligero,.
I never found the Vs to be strong at all. Remember Full bodied doesn't necessary mean it will be a nicotine bomb.
You want a nicotine bomb? Smoke a La Flor Dominicana double ligero chisel.
either the nat or mad will give you the retard shakes if you dont prepare before hand.

I need to try another V. I think my tolerance to nicotine wasn't nearly as high then as it is now.

If you normally smoke milder cigars then you will feel that Triple Maduro. I usually smoke fuller cigars and that one still sneaks up on me.
