View Full Version : Cbid double fail

Almost every time I order from cbid something goes wrong. Damaged sticks, dusty dried out sticks, wrong item etc. This time was a double-whammy. They had a direct email promo for free shipping earlier in the month, and even though I have plenty of cigars and am smoking pipes more, I had to at least check out the auctions, right?
So I won a few things and when I go to check out before the deadline of midnight March 11th, no free shipping. I email customer service and am told orders had to be *invoiced* by midnight. Huh? The ad doesn't say that, and it doesn't even make sense since they invoice only during business hours. I pointed that out so they offered to refund half the shipping, but only because I'm a long time valued customer.... and only after now claiming I didn't get free shipping because I changed my preferences during the week. This is total BS and irrelevant to what the ad says. A company of that size trying to worm their way out of their promo and quibbling over $3.50 is kind of pathetic.
Finally they agreed to refund the full shipping amount, but in the meantime I get an email saying one of my items is not available. Don't you love it when people "sell" things they don't actually have? Cbid does it all the time. If they did it on eBay where customers can leave feedback they'd be out. In their boundless generosity, they offered to replace the 5-er I'd won (msrp $30) with 5 Vegas Gold! I suggested a couple of alternatives, including cheapo Private Stock, but they wouldn't accept. It was 5Vegas Gold or cancel my order. So I cancelled. On the bright side, I did get some other stuff for decent prices, but the experience reminded me of why I stay away from cbid. More hassle than it's worth IMHO.

You know, I can't say I have ever run into a problem at all from them. I mean I only use them once or twice a year for some cheapie sticks so I have not had that many interactions with them. Hopefully that luck holds out.
Sorry you had a few problems with them all at once. I guess it's the price we aometimes have to pay when bargain hunting for cigars.

I've used them more than I care to admit and have only had 1 problem where they sent a box of the wrong size cigars...twice. Never had any damage, dried out sticks or unfulfilled orders. They resolved the mistake and sent me a prepaid label for the incorrect sticks.

I've always had really pleasant experiences with them, done 5 or 6 order in the last couple months.

No, it's just you ! LOL
Don't use them too much but only ever had one problem, an out of stock and I waited (hey, they were Tatuajes at a good price) and they eventually got it in and shipped it.
We went thru the out of stock explanation back at the old place. Pretty easy to do with unit inventory and as someone who deals with it every day I can't believe it doesn't happen alot more than it does.

I vaguely remember that discussion, but I dunno... It rarely happens with other online retailers I've ever used. In fact, I can't remember ever buying something on eBay, Amazon, NewEgg, or cigar/tobacco retailers then getting a message saying, "uh, sorry we don't have it after all. Can we send you a lousy inferior in-house product instead?" I also remember the cbid-rage posts every couple of months back on Puff. This wasn't meant to be that 'cause I don't care enough, but it was a little annoying - the postage quibbling more than the out of stock issue.
EDIT: I should add that nowhere else are you likely to get 5-ers of Villiger Colorado and Cusano 18 maduro, a Leccia Black single, a Sosa Classic single, and a tin of CAO tobacco for $17 total, so I should shut up....

Haha, yeah... Never tried any but the Sosa, but all were on my list except the tobacco (Eileen's Dream, which I'm kind of expecting to suck, but for $3 is worth a try).

The Villiger and Cusano aren't bad (imo) and I like the Leccia black - has a bit of fire cured in it.
Ya done well.

I had Nice Ash/Cigars at your Price tell me they ran out of stock twice after I ordered. The first time they offered to replace it with a comparable cigar, the second time I just had to wait.

:thumb: I really liked Villiger's La Libertad and the Colorado gets good reviews, and any Kelner blend I've had so far has done me right.

Wouldn't have minded waiting, but I do mind 5 Vegas Gold. :(

I have spent many $1000's on cbid over the years and have never had any issues. Any minor problems I experienced their customer service corrected immediately. The only thing I can ever think of that was out of stock was a Opus x that I had won. And I was actually happy because at the time I thought I was crazy for spending $25 on a single cigar. So I gladly took the refund.

Hey if the Eileen's Dream sucks, pass it on to a newbie. Taste is subjective. What you think sucks may be someone else's cup of tea.
As far as C-Bid, I haven't had any trouble myself other than sticks coming wet, but that is to be expected when ordering online. I haven't had any dry ones. That's strange.
My only complaint with them is the super slow shipping. It seems like every time I order its a week and a half or two weeks before I get it. It is the same way on Cigarmonster but their shipping is free so I don't complain. The devil site is not free, so I expect it in a reasonable amount of time. Doesn't happen though.
Once it was long enough that I complained. I believe it was ten days after my order and I emailed them. They refunded half my shipping cost which was more than they had to do I suppose. Now I just know that when I order from them, it's going to take a while. Oh well. I never buy really good sticks from them anyway. I usually just stock up on golf course/campfire sticks from them.

Absolutely. Newbs are my preferred method of recycling.
One thing I've learned about pipe tobacco is that even hideous sounding blends can turn out to be good. You never know until you try.

My husband smoked the Eileen's Dream cigars and loves them. Hopefully the pipe tobacco is just as good

Funny, I haven't tried an infused cigar I liked (including a bunch of Drew Estates) but really enjoy a few strongly aromatic pipe tobaccos. So it's possible I'll like it!

I personally have had bad luck with cbid over the last couple years and I was not pleased with their customer service. I had better luck with cigar auctioneer overall but when I had issues I still did not get the customer service I wanted. I stay away from all the auctions these days as I get much better service from the regular online vendors and if I'm patient just as good of deals. The plus is the customer service is usually top notch especially when I have an issue. I find I am willing to pay more just for the security of knowing the retailer is backing up my purchase to my expectations. I also find myself trying to buy from a retailer that bent over backwards from me just to show my appreciation. Too many retailers miss this point these days.

I've had it happen to me many times with Amazon.
Some frustrating ones at that. Ordered a tent after our old one tore, planned on setting it up in back yard over the weekend to introduce my daughter to "camping". Well, it finally shipped on Saturday, two days after it was supposed to be delivered. Not fun having your 5 year old all pumped about "camping" and then having to tell her it's going to have to wait till next weekend.
One "in stock" item I ordered from Amazon took over a year to get delivered! haha
In the end, it was worth the wait:

You waited over a year for some cleaning solution? That stuff must be amazing.

I think it works quite well.
I purchased this bundle:
Mobile Fidelity One Cleaning Bundle at Music Direct (http://www.musicdirect.com/p-1151-mobile-fidelity-one-cleaning-bundle.aspx)
I apply to the record brush and clean with the grooves, cleaning in both directions. Let it dry (couple of seconds) and drop the needle. I'm going to pick up another record brush, to use as my "dry brush". It's suggested to brush the album one more time after the record dries to remove even more grime.
