So while surfing Craigslist a few nights ago I came across a free 29 bottle wine cooler. The compressor was broke in it (no big deal I don't need the temperature control aspect for a wineador) so I went and picked it up. This this is way bigger than I expected but I can't pass up free lol

I finally got the big boy downstairs to my room and think I am gonna build a small shelf for ontop of the wineador so I can put both my wooden humidors on top and show them both off.

I plan on making 5 drawers from Spanish cedar and mahogany within the next few weeks and also get some fans set up as well. I think for this I'm gonna go with some kitty litter on the bottom and some in the upper drawers as well. Stay tuned for some drawer building pictures soon

Nice find!
That was my plan when I was looking at a wineador, but I got tired of looking and looking and finding nothing around me. So I broke down and bought one...
I was bummed as it meant I had less $$ to spend on filling my wineador!
In the end, I'm REALLY glad I have it. So does my best friend who has taken the liberty of storing his stuff in my wineador.
I collect rent from him, in the form of smoking one of his cigars every once in a while.

i will be honest it took me close to a year actually to find one for free. i had found two in New Jersey last winter round this time last year but the weather was so bad i was not able to make the trip to get one so i continued the search. i got some measurements done last night and im probably looking at around 20 dollars per drawer with the place im looking at getting spanish cedar from. i think just to get a feel for the build i am gonna make a mock up drawer from some skid wood i have sitting around so im not wasting spanish cedar. stay tuned for pics of this!

its roughly 17 inches wide little over a foot deep and about 20 inches tall on the inside. yep the glass is see through so the fronts of the drawer will probably be mahogany with silver curved drawer pulls to match the curved glass front

I stared building a mock drawer last night with some wood I had laying around just to see how everything would fit together and fit into the cooler. I got the base of the drawer done and just have to build the drawer part now. its nothing super fancy but the goal is to save on price and im thinking i can build there for around 15ish to 20 per drawer. It wasn't too hard to make but a a zero clearance insert would really make it easier for creating the dados. With out further ado some pics

That's my goal is to make this thing sexy lol. I finished up the mock up drawer last night. The sides are 2 inches tall and hold 3 50ish rg cigars deep so it will be plenty of storage in each drawer. Its probably gonna have two 6inch or so deep drawers on the bottom one with a false double face to hide the media and than 5 drawers around a foot deep with a shelf on top. I got the mock up drawer complete last night

Looking good. Having never build drawers before, how did you attach the sides to the base in the mock up. I'm thinking of building my own vs buying premade drawers in the near future.

For the drawer front I ran a rabbit on the bottom and dados on the side so it fits snug onto the drawer base and sides

it was simple. i did all the cuts for the drawer in just around 2 hours. the hardest part was doing the tongue and grove cuts for the sides of the drawer. i think you could cut all the boards in a half a day once you had it all set up and than it would be a matter of gluing them up. i also didnt pull the miter saw out so i had to constantly make changes on the table saw which took more time as well. i also am going to look into a zero clearance throat plate for my table saw to help make some of the cuts safer and eaiser

How thick is the wood you are using? I'm trying to gear up for my own shelf construction, and any further details you have would be immensely helpful!
might I add, do you know your interior dimensions on the wineador? and what are the dimensions you used for the wood/ of the completed drawer?
I know my cooler is a unique size, but trying to figure out how much clearance to give and such is giving me a headache. Wondering how much you left on the sides and back for air movement.
If using 1/4 for bottoms as suggested above, would you still be able to use the same construction method?
I'm considering doing 1/4 bottoms and 3/8 sides - was gonna go 2 inches like you said, because the wood comes in 4in widths, so good usage. But after checking, my large drawer-style humi is 2in high for the drawers, and honestly I only get them 2 high. 3 cigars would make it real tight between drawers clearance-wise and I don't want my cigars scraping on wood every time I pull a drawer, so I'm debating going 2 3/4 for height, hoping that gives me safe room for 3 gars high. 3 inches is too high for my drawers to fit in the wineador nicelly, also, have to add that 1/4 piece the walls sit on, right? It's these things that always end up messing me up with building projects...

Looking at your pictures, and from my own drawer build for my wineador, I will make a suggestion. If you are planning on using wood as thick as you have for your mock up, it really isn't necessary. If I were to do mine again, I would go no thicker than 1/4" for the bottoms and 1/2" or less for the sides/fronts. I would also go 3" tall sides instead of 2" like I did...I'd fit alot more sticks in mine if I had gone that route.
Looks like a good solid and usable design though.

If using 1/4 for bottoms as suggested above, would you still be able to use the same construction method? You could use very similar construction. I was thinking if I did it again, I'd just have the bottom slats hang past the sides to use as the part that fits in the cooler slots. You could do the sides/fronts/backs the same as Kyle and then either glue the bottoms to the box, or nail it with brads. I used brads to join all mine together on my build, and would probably do the same if I did it again.

Measure out exactly how much room you'd have for height of drawer sides and go with that. I am just guestimating 3" for what I'd do with a new build, but it might be slightly less than 3"...?

this was made with 1/2 inch boards from pallets i had for some other projects. i plan on going with either 3/8 or 1/4 inch for the construction of the base and drawer sides as well and i am still doing to build it the same way as well. the tongue and grove would be a little harder to do with 1/4 inch since the grove would probably only be around an 1/8 of an inch wide leaving a 1/16 on each side but i think i could make that work. my wine cooler is about 20" tall 15-16" deep and 17" wide. the drawer front is 3.5 inches tall and 1/2 an inch is covering the base so i cant do 3" high drawers and the wood i am looking at is 4 inch wide so i was going to split it to get 2ish inch slats to use. im still debating on just making the base out of spanish cedar and the drawer sides and front from mahogany. the drawer i built is 16.5 inches wide and 1 foot deep. i wanted to make sure i had at least and inch in the back for air movement with how large this wine cooler is. i have to also shim the left side of the wine cooler shelve slats because when the door opens it dose not open flush. i can get more pictures tonight of everything and the actual drawer in the cooler as well!! thanks for all the feedback support and complements!!

So here is a 2 year old bump but I'm not gonna start a new thread. I have finally reached the point where I am out of space and still have events and cigars coming in this year and it was time I did some wood working for myself. I ordered the spanish cedar more than a year ago and had it sitting next to the wine cooler this whole time. I revamped my design some and made some small changes and last week started cutting the wood down. This week I'm going to focus on getting all the bases built and go from there. Instead of going straight across I am going to try a diagonal like pictured below https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180806/b71d709978633f0f89024ad049eee82d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180806/f5c2f7bff0e707a457752a783a338240.jpg

It was never a rush back than because I had space or was willing to sell a few to make space but now I am out of space so the crunch is on. Plus in two years I have done enough wood working that I have picked up some good tricks and tools to help that I didnt have back than. I'm hoping to have 4 drawers minus the fronts and 1 shelf done by the end of this week. We will see if that happens though lol. I'm still debating what I want to do for drawer fronts. I was thinking liga boxes would be cool since i have some laying around but they are just a few inches too short unfortunately. I think i may just go w red oak

Got to put a few more nights of work into the drawers and I have all the bases complete. I am short one board for the drawer sides so I will have to pick one up to finish them but this is what I wanted to get completed this week so I am happy. Also ordered a 320 gram boveda to go with the box I have and I will get 4 more with the smart sensor so it will be equivalent to 24 60 gram packs with what I have on hand. Looking to have 4 at the top and 3 in each drawer and the rest on the bottom. Last night I got the "drawer slides" installed. The wine cooler I got Disney have the groves in the sides like a new airs and others come with and also this helped to shift the drawers over to the left so they would still open w the door at 90 degrees. I used a piece of enge trim of plastic lattice and routed the grove wider to fit the 3/8 inch wide boards snugly and it worked perfectly. I got my measurements no for my drawer fronts and need to get them cut out. Right now it has over 16 65% bovada packs in it and in a day or two I'm gonna load it up with all my cigarshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181031/f3c7f505ceb8ceccab7559804eae50d7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181031/00e8fc3d6a5b1d668288389af58967f2.jpg
