So I've been reading the book: The Ultimate Cigar Book by Richard Carlton Hacker (anyone else read this?)
As I recall, the Camaroon wrappers are supposed to pack a pretty good punch. So today I tried a CAO Camaroon. It was pretty good! Smooth, creamy with a little spice kick on the finish. However, while the flavor was fairly mild it did pack a pretty good wallop! A good cigar overall. Something I'll look for as a on-off here and there, not a box purchase for me though.
Anyone else out there have experience with these? What's your experience?
Edited to add: Overall the cigar was very well made. The burn was perfect and it lasted a very long time - 2.5 hours.
Cheers!

I dig the cameroon wrapper - it has a certain sweetness to it. I use it for some of my RYOs. It's rather delicate to work with, but wraps very smooth, with its relatively tiny veins.

Until I joined the Church of the Immaculate Corojo, Cameroon wrappers were my favorite. Still love them, in fact.
The one thing (other than they are awesome) that I would say about Cameroon wrappers is that they are indeed delicate. Robust puffing will result in them splitting. They also like lower RH storage. Burning them "wet" will just about guarantee a split wrapper as quick as a heavy draw will.
Dry box them a bit before lighting them up, and take your time even more than you might with other wrappers and they are sublime.

IIRC the Fuente Hemingway series in Natural are all Cameroon wrappers and I love them!

That CAO Cameroon was my second ever cigar and the one that got me hooked. Since then I've always liked Cameroon wrappers. The NUB is a favorite and was a box worthy purchase for me!

Reading Cardinal post above, realised that I'd forgotten the Hemingways were Camaroon wrapped. In the past I'd smoked a goodly number of Camaroon wrapped cigars , so favourite at the time.
As I recalled some of those were likely Olivas, G series maybe. the Latitude zero experimental line have a nicer quality Camaroon wrapper, good value for $ spent there and one that's seldom mentioned.

N. C. Partagas utilize Camaroon wrappers too. They are very easy to like :wavey:

I never thought Cameroon was in any way full bodied, but it was one of the tobaccos that is so distinct in character. I remember in the early 2000's, Oliva had the Grand Cameroons that really showcased the flavor of that leaf really well, and was a bargain to boot. I can't recall smoking any recent Cameroon featured cigars, but remember the CAO Cameroon and the Torano 1916 as sticks that stick out as being hallmarks of the distinctive Cameroon flavor...

I really love Camerons, they really are the best name you could ever give your kid. Camerons tend to be smooth, and well worth getting to know well.

Oh, CamerOOn! I haven't tried one of those yet. I've been resting a few of those :)

Not all Cameroons are Cameroon, if you dig. Read up on the Fuentes and their use of Meerapfel tobacco, which is the true Cameroon leaf. That's the good stuff. The Fuente Don Carlos is hands down one of my favorite non-Cuban cigars, and it's the perfect blend for that leaf.
It was a sad day when the Ashton Heritage switched from a Cameroon to Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. I haven't smoked one since.
Edit: I was going to smoke a pipe today but I'm such a good salesman that I talked myself into a Don Carlos No. 3, my favorite vitola from the lineup!

Cameroon and Sumatra wrappers can be really special...when they are the real thing.
But when grown in some other locations the qualities that the cigars wearing those wrappers lose some of their uniqueness.

I have a thing for the Oliva Serie G in cameroon. Like a sweet, slightly spicy smoke. Though not a big hitter for strength, it's very well balanced and right up there in my choice for smokes!

That's the perfect description of the Oliva serie G Camaroon wrapper cigar.
The Camaroon wrapper used the Latitude Zero Experimental cigars is sourced from Oliva.
Quality, construction of the Lat Zero Exp cigars is close to the Serie G Olivas, if you can find them, give one a try.

Haven't had the pleasure yet! Maybe I'll hit a B&M and try one over the weekend. Heard nothing but good about them.

Love the Nub Cameroon!!!
And if you want to drop a little coin the GOF Carlito is an awesome Cameroon! Haven't had one in a little while. Maybe I need to get a few again.

Heritage is one of the best cigars I've smoked. When did they change wrappers?

Two years ago - maybe a bit longer. It took a while for quite a few retailers to run through their supply so for a while after the switch you could still find the Cameroon version on the shelf, but unfortunately that's not the case anymore.

When you try one of these, take you time smoking it, it does pay to smoke slowly, you will like it.
Should the Hemingway not live up to (your) expectations for how a Cameroon wrapped should smoke, you would more than likely be looking at a long time search for something that will.
As mentioned here a few times the Cameroon wrapper is indeed delicate, even it requires a bit more concentration to avoid smoking too quickly, it is worth that effort when find how good that wrapper can be.
That high quality Cameroon wrapper sure does let you appreciate all a good cigar has to offer, due at least to some degree, being smoked slowly.
Looking forwards to hearing how you like that wrapper.

Well, all this discussion made me select a CAO CX2 for my post-lunch enjoyment. It was pretty nice!

I'll keep that in mind! I usually smoke slowly, but will really take my time with my first Hemingway.

Not all Cameroons are created equal. Cohiba Red Dot is a case in point.

Dig the Oliva G and the Hemmingway. Need to try the Lattitude Zero Experimental. Normally a maduro smoker but like to change it up sometimes.
