The title speaks for itself!
Do you folks prefer using a lighter or matches to get the pipe burning?!

That's the way I've gone with the few bowls I've smoked thus far! But I've seen some nice pipe lighters.

Eventually I plan to get myself a pipe insert for my zippo and use that. I've used bics on occasion but find I prefer the matches

I used to use matches but found its just a hassle/mess so i go strictly bic/lighter now
Brimy, dont get all baller on us. believe me its
75% Tobacco
24% Pipe
1% lighting method.
Dont waste money on a fancy pipe lighter. $2 bic to $20 tops.
Spend your $$$ on the better tobacco.
What blends you smoke so far of what i sent you?

Haven't made the opportunity to burn the pipe yet. I plan on taking some with me to work tomorrow. Will post up & let you know.

Miss Kayla cheaphumidors sent me a really cool Calibri pipe lighter as well as a triple torch combo , I'm too lazy for matches. So I go straight to the lighters.

I prefer a match, I seem to be able to get a more complete light. I don't know, maybe I'm able to control the flame better so the tobacco gets lit all of the way around the bowl. That being said, I most often, like 90% of the time, use a bic or similar for the convenience. Most of my pipes are lit while in my car. I use matches at home.

I prefer wooden kitchen matches by far but regardless I almost always use my Zippo (Run of the mill without pipe insert) because that's what I have on me.

I prefer kitchen matches.
I carry a zippo with a butane pipe insert.
I use bics when convenient. I do find the bics are more prone to burning the back edge of the pipe.

I like matches, but they are more of a mess and the wind gives them more trouble than a lighter. My youngest, Luke, bought me a Lotus Vertigo Pipe Lighter I really like, but I can never get a refill to last as long as I think it should. My Zippo Pipe Lighter seems rough on the pipe rim, and back to refilling. Bics sometimes burn my thumb, because I don't always hold them right. I wish there was a place to score these local. Would like to try one, but I hate to pay as much or more in shipping than the item. Circle K sells them, but looks like only on the west coast.

I use a zippo pipe lighter most of the time. Originally used 100% matches, but if you ever smoke outdoors you know how tricky that can be. I still use matches in the shop, but the convenience of the zippo wins out most of the time.

Oh no... I see a 'how to fill your butane lighter' thread in the near future, replete with all the nonsense about 'purging the air' before you fill. The horror. Oh my head... I think I'll just start pounding it against the cement wall right now...

I use disposable lighters 90% of the time. I recently got a Nimrod pipe lighter on ebay but I haven't figured out the secret to lighting my pipe with it.

I picked up one of these to try.

A little cheap, but with the soft flame at a 90 degree angle, it is similar to the zippo pipe lighter. I haven't tried it out on a pipe yet.
It has a single torch that you can use for cigars too.
It seems a bit touchy on the adjustment. The soft flame goes from just a flicker to shooting out 4" with a minimal turn of the dial.

I prefer matches but I use a lighter most of the time out of laziness. Mostly Bics.
I guess I should get me one of the angled pipe lighters since I'm starting to buy some nice briar pipes.

Matches require two hands, lighter, one. Therefore lighter for Bruck.
I have/have had a few "fancy" pipe lighters. I usually end up using a bic disposable - read into that what you will :)

Yeah, me too.
I've never bought a pipe lighter, but the torches I've bought have been terrible.
I'll fill them with butane and they'll work great for one or two cigars, then they'll spit and sputter and not stay lit.
I've purged them and I use the good Xikar triple filtered fuel and they still do the same thing.
Hell, I even light cigars with Bics half the time. I'd like to find a good one that would work, but for that much money, I'd rather just spend it on more cigars, pipes and pipe tobacco. :pipe:

I picked up a couple of Djeep disposable lighters at a local tobacco store on Saturday for $2 each. They are supposed to last a long time.

If I'm out and about I use my Zippo pipe lighter...usually. I have a bad habit of forgetting to refill the stupid thing and half the time wind up having to buy a cheap bic! LOL But if I'm at home it's matches all the way. I find I can get a better char and I don't get the occasional lighter fluid taste. Been smoking at home lately because of my location (it is rather frowned upon for students to smoke anything here) so I've been using a LOT of matches. Which reminds me...need to get some more.

I'm primarily a Zippo man (with pipe chimney), but I always keep a couple Bics lying around for when I need to refill. Sitting at home on the porch I prefer wooden matches.

Seeing as I'm usually working outside on the hobby farm when it's time for the pipe, I usually use a Bic. The wind play hell with the matches.
