Wednesday Afternoon.
Thanks to Matthew ( chain_gang ) got to smoke this "new to me" cigar Once lit the first quarter to a third of an inch has a rather unusual taste, not bad ..but "odd'. That taste fades rather abruptly and I'm getting g
the expected good tobacco taste. The burn line is decently sharp and stays that way till the end, smoke production is light, not skimpy, but not a thick or heavy cloud. The taste shifts at a bout a third of the way in, and again as the cigar burns down to the last quarter. Can not pick up on any spice or pepper in the mouth or on the retrohale, just the lightness, so a Mild cigar for Me that doesn't quite make it to the Medium mark.
The ash is very solid and held on until I tapped it off after about three inches,then did not fall,am on its own accord until there was no more than an inch to go. I do not get the nuances that I'm sure many other Bums note when smoking. So interested in seeing what others think of this Eagle. Again a big thanks to Matthew for sending me this one try.

Let me clarify; Its been years since my last Gurkha; probably about 7-8.
As I recall, the last one left me feeling a bit... nauseous. It was with a sunrise golf round, on an empty stomach, and I wasn’t as, shall we say accustomed to cigars at the time. Went in to work with a bit of queasiness.

Either way, I'm glad you're feeling better. I had a bad flu case a couple years back with body aches. It was the worst week of my life.Only once, but even if I wanted to get another test I would have to wait two weeks. I was like what's the point then, but of course it got worst before it got better. Ended up at the ER for the chest pain, and they didn't feel the necessity to test again because I wasn't ruining a temperature. Who knows...I just wanted to go home and hibernate, so I didn't feel like arguing with the doctors.

I don't think the cigar was a dud, aside from odd taste at first,in f the tapered foot area, the cigar smoked ok, construction was fine,and it wasn't too hard nor was it too soft, mottled wrapper(meaningless.)Noticed two shifts in taste along the way...but I can't pickup on any o the fine nuances that many Bums note, Didn't find a lot of complexity...tho that quite likely means I just didn't sense any. To sum up, think that at the price point there are other cigars from Robaina that offer more bang for the buck.
By the way the Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro 7.63x49 (double Corona?) is a fantastic smoke. Bit hard to find & a tad on the pricey side. But an excellent smoke. The Vegas R0baina Famosos 5x48 are very good, esp when they're on sale for under $200.

I decided to give one of these Davidoff The Late Hour a try, suggested to me by my good enabler, err I mean friend WNYTONY
I’m not crazy about this larger rg, but when you look for a single or two to try out before a box, etc... you sometimes have to be happy with what you can get.

This is also a celebratory smoke, in honor of my new guitar rig. I finally got my “dream” rig. Upgraded everything, guitar, amp, new pedals and a board to put them on. I’ve been working on this for the last several months. I have everything now, with the exception of a 2 or 3 more pedals. It’s taken over 3 decades to finally have a rig like this, so I think it calls for a celebration.

It's definitely an adult read with...dark and dirty situations (I'll keep it at that). Check out the movie with the same title - "Let the Right One In" - ESPECIALLY the Swedish version. American version is ok, but do yourself a favor and look for the other.

Matthew, Weirdly I wrote that there were two versions of the book, and that the original in Swedish was really good but that the Amercan remake stunk. And here You are with the same take on the Movies.Deleted that part since I figured the post would be too long, and have far little ref to Smoking. NowI didn't watch the American movie, but did not need to since I knew it would be lousy, have been by a couple of people that they could not even watch the that it (on You tube ) to the end.
I've everything that Lindqvist has written, in English trans. All His books available from UK at better price than here and super fast shipping. BY the wayside.....is there a non Maduro version of the Asylum Schizo ?

I'll toss a review up for it somewhat soon but the overall - had a twang in the first 1/3 that's kinda metallic, kinda light for a maduro, solid throughout, little pepper and spice in the retrohale, 2/3-3/3 the twang melds better. I'd get another for sure and would like to try the natural.

What's my next read by Lindqvist - preferably horror?

Some unbanded Maduro Boutique second with a closed foot and pigtail cap. Very good cigar. Burned flawlessly with a perfect draw.
No need to know what it was. Many times with these boutiques I find something I like to not be available again. Most are small batch, limited runs.

My theory of nc versions is not worth the money. I have had a few nc monte and red dot cohiba they were ok but I don't think they compare well to their counterparts. I believe you pay more for the name than the tobacco and you can find better cigars in their price point. Now i have never done a true side by side comparison which would be the most fair thing to do but I feel if someone tried it there would be a mostly unsmoked version lying in the ashtray.

The "S" was my first from the pack and was a nice sweetened (sorry Steve) smoke.

It was one seriously tasty cigar, it smoked quicker than expected, great construction, pretty complex, I wish I could describe flavors so I could tell you exactly what it tasted like. I spent the money for more of the experience with him, it was a great smoke. One time was good for me. I wouldn't do it for a second time, but for a first time it was totally worth it
