Late Tuesday Morning. Esteban Carreras Habano Aged 13 years. Just two of these 7x54 left. Most have smoked OK, but doubt I'll be burning anymore cigars in this large size.

Last night’s smoke was something I came across. I’ve tried their standard smoke, and for a cheapy it’s pretty good. So for $2.90 + tax I figured why not. And it was ok all things considered:

Uncle Paulie from Jochy Blanco via Privada Cigar Club. I’ve got a dozen or so connies that I hold onto for the rare morning cigar. Now that I’m working from home for the next 30 days, I guess I’ll break into them. This is...fine. I find all connies to be a bit bitter and cardboard-ish. I just needed something to get out with and decompress a while. By the end I was dragging on that thing like a crack-ho not wanting to waste any!

This Afternoon. Esteban Carreas Habano Aged 13 Years. Smoked while out walking. Even with a good deal of wind the amount of smoke was impressive.

This is an absolutely gorgeous cigar. Oily, toothy, dark wrapper. Very firmly rolled and dense. Pre light aroma of earth, barn, and barnyard.

The band looks like it was printed on a home computer inkjet on heavy stationary type paper. Wasn’t even glued, held on with cellophane tape.

Smoking lots of leather that increased at halfway into last third. Peppery retrohale in the nose but not too sharp. Rich, deep, dried fruits and wood.

The only complaint I had was that it might have been a bit too dense. The first inch or so was not quite a tight draw, but wasn’t allowing enough smoke production to get all those wonderful flavors. Opened up just before halfway.

This is one to savor, and I needed that today after the difficult discussions at work.

Work hard been a mess since I got back. So between that and self isolation with a 3 year old, it’s been a loooong week.

Personal rambling inbound, skip if you want:
Some of us will be hit harder than other but we all will have our lives changed by this. We can all complain about it until we are blue in the face but it won’t make it not happen. So we might as well try and make the best of whatever comes our way. For example, last week and next week will be ugly for me business wise. Silver lining, I get so much time at home with my son. You can’t put a price on that. Financial hits can be made up, lives lost can’t. Find that positive (more time with family, more time for hobbies, more time with cigars, etc.), focus on what you can control and just grind. We’ll all get through this. Hell, maybe this will help us all find a bit more humanity in ourselves and respect for each other rather than the contentious tribalism we keep plaguing ourselves with. Stay safe, stay Smokey and take care of each other.

It's SO true Jessie. So many things we haven't even thought about. This is a sum beach of sum beaches. I don't want to think about it as far as all the things affected, but it's a snowball that'll get bigger than we thought. I'm just hoping that we'll all keep our shit together. I keep thinking of things it'll affect, and it scares the shit out of me. We all need to get together and push our American ways and values to their limit. We need to take care of our neighbors, while still taking care of our sons and grandsons, and for some of us our grandbabies. I'm sometimes terrified for my little great grandbabies. Errrrrr.... I'm enjoying an A. Flores 1975 Series Privada Capa Habano. I hope my grandchildren can enjoy them the same!

Bought these Drew Estate Maduro version (the Habano is really good), and found it really tasteless with my coffee for several minutes before it developed a nice Maduro-like flavor:

These others made by Drew Estates is infused come to find out. Very dark chocolate/cocoa- like and with a sweetened tip. Hard to enjoy with my coffee, though the chocolate flavor should have been nice I suppose. I’ll have to try another on it’s own. I’m not too fond of flavored smokes.

Just this bum's opinion the Sumatra wrappers used on these cigars have been the ones to measure against over the past fifty years.

Walkin' in the light rain today. My Father Connecticut Corona Gorda 8x48. This was ROTT dry taste at the start and at the end a dry taste on the tongue. Maybe walking in the rain puffing a bit faster than usual, anyway burn time just over 52 minutes. The cigar was a bit loosely packed and the moisture in the air might've caused it to burn faster than normal.
Will have smoke the next dry day.

Once the rain got heavier switch to smoking in the car, and at my normal slightly slower pace. Thought of NATURE's nearly two hours burn time with a Robusto.
This My Fathers Le Bijou 1922 Petite Robusto ,smoked to the nub, ended after an hour and fifty eight minutes.

Working on finishing up H&S Master Mason. Massively dark cigar. Almost black wrapper, but I wondet how much of that is artificial. Leaving brown stains on my fingers when wet. Nice dark, leathery flavors. Burned like a PITA. Kept going out, not clogged. Had a month about to rest. Enjoyed the flavors, but not sure if I could justify the cost vs experience to buy another.

Hmm... I don't know what you're using as a standard for length but whatever it is, it seems to get shorter in the cold...

Don't have my R G thingy now and just go with whats printed on labels, boxes etc. However do think I'd do a bit better with one inch size keys, spaced an inch apart on this keyboard or just need more coffee.

Didn't note burn time but tho small they do burn nice and slow.

While walking in the park today. San Cristobal Revelation Mystic 5.6x48. Excellent smoke, do like the Sumatra wrapper on these box pressed cigars.
My prior top choice from Aston cigars was the Aston Cabinet Tres Petite, a good D. R.cigar tho too dang pricy.

Sunday 05 April. My Father Connecticut Corona Gorda 6x48. Second one of these Connecticut wrapper cigars. This one smoked very much like the first one that I smoked ROTT two Days ago same "dry' taste when lit and slightly uneven burn line in the first minute or two. Once again the cigar felt too spongy and as it warmed up. Way too soft feeling with the dry taste becoming more pronounced towards the end. The burn time was Fifty Four Minutes.

Never had a Roma Craft. Don't buy that many cigars these days at all. Not sure about the dirt clod (claud?) part... not sure if I'd like dirt although 'earthy' certainly doesn't bother me. Steak is earthy. Mushrooms are earthy. Steak with mushrooms is heavenly :) And I do like peppercorns of most all varieties. These are starting to sound like pretty good cigars from his description...

Are you familiar with the original Big Payback blend? Are these similar, or is it the same blend just a different factory that is doing the creation? I believe the original were created when Room 101 was produced by Davidoff. Not sure where they roll at now. I was always a big fan of the original Payback line, and would be interested in getting some of those if they are like them.

Yep, I remember the OG Big Payback. It was a Nicaraguan Puro. This one has a Conn. Maduro wrapper and fillers from Honduras, Nicaragua, & DR. So completely different. I believe this one is rolled in General Cigar's Honduras American Tobacco S.A.

Wednesday late morning smoke. My Father Connecticut Corona Gorda 6x48. This was the third of these and like the first two rather loosely packed/rolled. However this one did not have the same dry taste , tho it too burned far quicker than one might expect a cigar this size to.
