Went to the lounge late afternoon and enjoyed a delicious bowl of Dublin Cottle (Irish sausage stew) and then enjoyed an Illusion HL Candela Lancero. I am not a candela fan, but it's St. Paddy's Day.

I think I was trying to challenge allusred for time. I set it down at 2 hours and had not taken the band off yet. Probably had another 30-40 minutes left on it.

droy1958 No problem, didn't read it as critical.

I had never heard of them either until recently.

They are hard to describe but full flavored, sweet floral intro into an odd end of the first third that had me wondering if it was infused (I don't think they are). But the halfway point gets super rich and complex full bore musk-leather-earth-coffee-cedar. Notes of vanilla. Sort of reminds me of CC Trinidad or something. Good stuff.

Well I may have to try one, as it sounds great....

I can dig it! I wasn't trying to criticize. After re-reading my post it may have sounded that way, but it wasn't meant to be critical.....Best, David

Hey Droy,
After the Daliesque look of the can of Pop caught my eye, the look of the cigar really got my attention, a very nice band and an attractive wrapper, and tho I've looked for the price of the cigar a hefty tag seems likely.I'm sure neither you nor I would expect to find the Debonaires in a B&M's bargain bin.Always nice to see smokes wearing a band that look so right on the cigar.

It's a nice looking presentation cigar, and sounds delicious. I'm not sure Salvador Dalí could beat it.....

2012 Padron Series Churchill Maduro with Kirkland coffee with light cream on a lovely but brisk late, late Winter morning.

Similar to other Padron (hundreds) Series I've smoked over the past 4-5 years, this stick has significant construction issues. In this case there are 2 seams (~3/4" long) in the wrapper (it's not big enough), the wrapper is visually unappealing and it's loosely packed. Burns a bit fast and a tad uneven but given an undersized/flawed wrapper and too little tobacco, it took some skill to make it worth smoking. The quality of the leaf is very good, excellent wine like taste with sweet berries.

Before the Padron 1964 Anniversary and 1926 series were introduced the Series were exceptional. Are the more recent Series rolled by apprentices or seconds or intended to be lesser cigars?

Perhaps all of the above. The consistency of quality issues, sparse pack, visual low quality of the wrapper and flaws or rolling errors make me believe that the Padron Series is, essentially, a second. Padron gets no brownie points for lack of QC or willingness to be self critical. If the Series were represented as a second then I'd feel them to be overpriced but quality seconds because they taste good (and after all, that is the bottom), but I fear that it's as much or more a gouge of their name and reputation with customers. There's not a snowball chance in hell that the cigar that I'm about to finish ever got a '90+' rating from any reputable rating 'body' but that's a whole 'nother post.

Having a nice, little Brohiba this evening, paired with some Esperanto tequila. Tonite's stick is wrapped in CT Broadleaf and bound with Dark Air, both from Larry in KY; filler is nicaraguan and brazilian. The Brazilian gives it some citrusy tanginess.

At last some mention for Villiger.
They make some real nice cigars, at most reasonable price points. Sell quite well in Europe. seen to go almost unnoticed here in the states.
Are made with excellent tobaccos. The packaging allows one to carry a few in a shirt or jacket pocket without worrying that they might be crushed.
The do have a rather unique taste, but that I believe along with the high quality construction is one of the reasons they do sell so well.

Thanks George for reminding me, I'm be off to grab one of the foil wrapped Villiger #7 cigars.

Edit: To correct sp.

Villigers sure are nice to have on hand.
Somehting I've pretty much forgotten, now that I don't get the traveling in as in the past.
Just a minute ago lit one of the Villiger Premium no.7 Sumatra. I'd not recently. That closed foot and precut ensure that so long as one can add fire a nice short smoke awaits, and this is just that, a real nice cigar early in the morning.

Edit: twenty minutes gone by and this one is but ash, now have to resist lighting another.

3 puffs and I let it go. For those of you old enough to remember the flavored lip glosses that girls used in the 70s & 80s it was like smoking one of those. Smoking a Neanderthal to get the nasty taste outta my mouf. Blech. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag360/hey_blue99/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03/4E3C0338-3DB8-4EF3-99DD-9C4A1E1F70A9_zpsgvasoehv.jpg (http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/hey_blue99/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03/4E3C0338-3DB8-4EF3-99DD-9C4A1E1F70A9_zpsgvasoehv.jpg.html)

Paul Stulac Classic Blend Phantom...6x53. A most pleasurable hundred and twenty-four minute smoke enjoyed at the opening of a new and extremely nice watering hole. Superb decor everything a cigar smoker could wish for, from the highly polished floors, central heating/cooling system with Irish Johnny W. behind the bar. Here's the photo I took and am happy to share with you all.

Mrs. Bruck's Jeep Commander failed its annual inspection due to worn out rear brake pads. So that was my weekend project. A sub-1-hour job turned into several hours on and off though... The first side went just fine, no prob other than the usual stubbornness of old car parts. The second side... The lug nuts were really torqued on. I destroyed one lug nut while turning it, so that was a setback. Finally got it off by hammering a smaller socket onto it and turning that (not on the first try - wrecked a few sockets in the process). Then one of the caliper bolts was mangled - threads all messed up, not sure how that happened - probably cross-threaded by the last person who worked on it. Anyway, I rehabilitated the bolt and finally got the job finished this p.m. Saved a couple hundred bucks in the process :)

All that to say... celebrating with an Undercrown!

Indeed it is, the tankard/mug nearest the bottom edge of the photo is mine, naturally I'm not in the photo, but behind the camera.
After another look at the photo have to concede that Irish Johnny W.was right to forgo the Brass bar rails, as he said, they'd be too flashy for the establishment.
Tho the four of us at this table are, as you will have noticed, cigar smokers. Pipe and cigarette smokers are fully welcome.
I'll be spending a lot of time there,so should any of you feel like stopping by, you shall be most welcome.
Think you'll need no directions other than to alight from the the street car at the junction of the 1920s and the 1930s.

El Centurion H2KCT corona while attending a My Father event at Nice Ash earlier today, Cracker Crumbs on the drive home and just capped off the day with a La Imperiosa Magicos. All in all a good smoke day !

Hi Tony,
Those El Centurion H-2K Connecticut were the cigar I was most looking forwards to trying this year...still haven't done so.
Don't recall them getting any mention on Cigarbum, and I'd pretty much forgotten about them, until I saw your mention of them.

How did you like it?
How does this version compare to the regular El Centurion line?

I really like them and I'm not a huge Ct fan in general, but I always grab them over the regular El Centurion line. Haven't bought a box yet, but have gone thru about half a box so far. I like pretty much anything My Father and these come in corona size which is a box press so the size is perfect for me. I was disappointed that they did not have any of the LE Corona at the My Father event. Love those but it seems cBid is the only place they can be gotten.

Oh yeah, all the Oliva Vs and Melanios and their maduro versions. I can't get enough of those things. Have you tried them, especially the Melanio and Melanio maduro?

The fog my be slightly heavier that I thought. More than three days to reply to a question. Have had four of the Series V, three of which were the Maduros, four varying sizes.
Two of the four coming as a result of an attraction betwixt two youngsters who enjoy dining out after dark.

it's a Don Reynaldo from Warped.

and as for the IPA, Lagunitas A Little Sumpin is a great beer and will pair with just about any stick. :beerchug::stogie:

I smoked a couple of Avo Uvezian Classics with various IPAs and found it destroyed the nice hop flavor.

I've only found one cigar that complemented an IPA, which is a Southern Draw Kudzu. I've been meaning to try their other sticks. I can't seem to find their sampler packs.

I meant to smoke this last night on Good Friday but ran out of time. Smoking a Caldwell The King is Dead. An unbelievable and incomprehensible sacrifice was made. Thank you Jesus!
Good call on an appropriately named cigar. Love it! Good smoke too.

JD Howard Reserve for me. Nice smoke with a good transition.
One of the few Crowned Heads regulars I haven't tried, maybe the only one actually. It stack up pretty well against the rest of their line? I like the Jericho Hill and Four Kicks quite a bit, but not so much on the La Imperiosa so far.

I've only had one Jericho Hill so far, but we'll forget that as it had a bad plug. Got the others in my humidor waiting, but first half was dominated by a creamy nutty smoke with a very long finish, second half sweet cedar. If the others are this good I'll be a happy camper

I've had a few of them and thought they were good. If you can get your hands the petite lancero go for it I really enjoyed that vitola.

The fog my be slightly heavier that I thought. More than three days to reply to a question. Have had four of the Series V, three of which were the Maduros, four varying sizes.
Two of the four coming as a result of an attraction betwixt two youngsters who enjoy dining out after dark.

Haha, delayed reaction for me too.

I was hoping those younguns had exchanged a couple V maduros but I just couldn't remember for sure.

Still has some decent punch after 3 years in the humidor. Bought this in a cbid bundle back in early '13, I want to say I paid about $20 for 20 various PdRs. Wish I'd bought a few more of these at that time. Enjoyed with some Balvenie Caribbean Cask.

That seems to be true with most of the Casa De Garcia offerings. Not bad right away for what you pay and they turn out pretty good after a while.

My Father #3 Crema...6x49. One of the thing to like about the this cigar from Don Pepin Garcia is the cap.
Easy to cut to ensure it wont unravel and will draw well ,good construction that the smoker should expect.
But can't always find in some other cigar brands.
A nice smoke on a good day.

2014 La Gloria de Cubana Artesenos Club given to me by my son, Adam Richard.

You've all been kind and wonderful to me and my family, even when by proxy. Adam passed this morning at the age of 29, after a life-long battle with mental illness and drug addiction. Fittingly, it's a fine cigar. Adam bought me cigars at times even though I didn't need them and I saved and treasured them but today seemed very fitting to smoke one. There was nothing more that I, his mother Debbie or his wife Ashley or his sister, Elisabeth could do for him, he was unable to help himself.

He's survived by his daughter, Kaiden, who we will see tomorrow when we go to Pennsylvania to see Adam before cremation and then we will try and figure out how to best proceed. Thank you all.

Pete

Having a Brohiba from my latest batch which is exactly one month old - a little premature, they could use some more time. This one has a PA wrapper from KY, a Dark Air binder, also from KY, and a mix of nicaraguan, dominican, and brazilian leaves for filler. Overall not too bad flavorwise, but the draw is too tight. About halfway thru (it's a churchill) I had to open it up with a bamboo shish kebab skewer. Worked :)
