Picked this up in a little shop in Columbus, OH of the same name.
The proprietor was a young gentleman from Puerto Rico. He had several options of cigars he hand-rolled himself with Puerto Rican tobacco. He was very passionate about the trade.

This is actually pretty good, and dare I say, tastes a bit Cubanesque. I would have liked just a little tighter draw, but other than that, the quality was good.

I don’t know why Puerto Rico doesn’t get more attention for tobacco. It is very close to the DR, and at the same tropical Caribbean latitude as the other known tobacco regions.

I liked it, I haven't had a Caldwell I didn't like yet, with my favorite being the Eastern Standard.

Had yet another new one to me on Monday. I have been wanting to try these for some time now, and wasn't let down. Still fairly rott'ish, but I had to try one.

When I first got into cigars, I was rummaging around the closeout bin at a local B&M and the owner came in and politely told me that the cigars that were in there didn’t sell for a reason, and there were plenty of great “budget” cigars if I didn’t want to spend much. He then put a New World in my hand and said it was the best deal he had in his store. He was not wrong and I left with sage advice that day. Still love these.

I had another one. Finally smoked this Gurkha Regent from a budget cigar bomb from droy1958.

We all know the reputation, but I gotta say, I’m pretty blown away. This is a great cigar. Plumes of smoke. Smoking beautifully. Pepper and mint. I won’t hate on this brand as much as I used to.

I must say these JR wannabe CAO Maduros are pretty good at something like $37/bundle of 20. Better than the Flor de Flor I often get for about the same price, though I haven’t tried their Maduro version.

There’s definitely a market out there for cigars like this. Reminded me of La Palina Black and a Camacho Triple Maduro—other cigars that I pitched. Bitter chocolate is not my thing.

I definitely don’t require sweetness, although it’s always welcomed unless it’s artificial tasting. But I do need some sweetness when I’m tasting cocoa. Otherwise, it reminds me of that time when I was a little kid and saw Hershey’s cocoa in the spice rack and thought....Hershey’s?? Yum!! A spoonful later and I was almost throwing up.

I can appreciate that.

For some reason my tastes have been changing over the decades and where I needed sugar and creamer in a medium roast have turned into a dark roast made strong and black. And a good bit of bitterness in my beer can be ok too. I figured this was potentially along those lines. Maybe I should buy one and see for myself.

They had me at the orange band though, sucker for those.

I found the CAO Gold many years back when CI offered a too good to be true offer of 5 Avo Classics (a favorite) with 5 of these. Not as good, but certainly worth the price!

I agree! AJF in particular, has been constantly dropping a new blends! And making it very hard to keep up.
Thankfully, his blends have been very good from what I see around here, unlike some other blenders.
