Thank you everyone for the concern regarding Jack, we took him to the Vet Monday morning. He had started having heavy/fast breathing (more so then usual for a puppy his age & size) Sunday night. By Monday morning he "seemed" much better so we were thinking it was possibly an allergic reaction to something. The Vet checked him out, no fever, no wet sound breathing, nice pink gums, etc... But we showed him a video of the breathing episode Sunday night. He said he really didn't think it was much to worry about, but if we wanted to make 100% sure he would do some x-rays. We didn't even think twice and asked him to please rule out anything major. So long story short, our little Jack has a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia and part of his intestine has pushed up into his chest on the right side compressing his lung. We are going to see a Surgeon next Tuesday, and find out what we need to do. We are trying to keep him as relaxed as possible to keep him from getting out of breath, as well as doing a LOT of praying. My wife and I are pretty devastated as I am sure you all can understand. Not having children, this is like a child to us ( I know those of you who love them as we do understand what I mean) So any prayers would be appreciated.

It sucks when one of your babies is not feeling well. Be it a child or furry child. I actually quit having pet dogs over 30 years ago, as I had a string of just devastating things that happened over several years and couldn't emotionally take the losses anymore. I finally got a fish and that didn't work out after 8-10 months. Good luck to the rest of you.....

There was much more to my post originally, but I didn't want to upset anyone with all the details. In short though my wife and I have had similar troubles the past 18 years. Four of our little ones had sudden and completely unexpected issues come up. When our Shepherd (Maggie) past in June'16 from a massive heart attack in our arms, we both said never again, it was just to painful. It was no more than a couple months ago that we both sat down and decided we still had love to give, and wanted to find a puppy, preferably a rescue from the Humane Society. We found Jack not long after, when we saw him we just knew he was the one. We instantly bonded with him and vise versa, and now this. Anyhow...

Tonight I had a Headley Grange Estupendos with some hot coffee and '71 Dead
I really liked the one that WNYTONY sent and needed to get more.

Having a lovely Brohiba churchill on an equally lovely Sunday afternoon. This one's filled with Dominican Seco, Nicaraguan Ligero, and Brazilian Viso, bound with KY Dark Air and wrapped with KY CT Broadleaf. I usually like to let them rest for 6 mo. or more, but this one has only abt 4 mo. on it. Between my own indulgence and my myriad moochers (my co-workers are shameless beggars), they never last 6 mo. :)

Down in Kentucky visiting kids/grandkids and it got up to high 60's today. Just happened to have my sticks in the car and managed to get out and enjoy a few cigars for the first round of the year.
Asylum 33 corona and Paul Garmirian corona. Managed to sneak in a Cracker Crumbs later out walking with the missus.

Trying to keep my mind busy (as is my wife), we take Jack to have the "consult" at 9:30am. There is a high probability that they will keep him and do the surgery tomorrow, our stomachs are in knots and I can't even imagine what's going through his little mind. Here he is sneaking up on me (or so he thought) tonight. It's not an easy task to keep a 13 week (today) old puppy from getting excited, he just wants to play. Really praying this all goes well. Thanks again to all of you for the kind words and comments, it means a lot to all 3 of us.

It is good, a lot of depth for a milder stick

Those eyes staring up at you, what an adorable pup

Well here is the update on Jack, we were right they kept him this morning. In just a week it went from part of his intestine inside the right side of his chest to having his liver, gallbladder and spleen pushing up into it as well. Both of his lungs were severely compressed, he had such a rough week. They started the surgery at noon, and at 2:30pm we got the call. Thank God, the surgery was a complete success, they got everything back down into his abdomen where it belonged, and sealed the hernia. They have 24hr round the clock staff to monitor and what not. When my wife called the last time at 10:00pm they said he was already standing up drinking a bit of water and his oxygen levels were between 98-99, and all other vitals had stabilized since 2hrs post-op. We find out in the morning if we can bring him home, it will be a bit of a recovery, but MANY prayers were answered today. Thank you all so much for the support and kind words. This has been a gut wrenching week, and a day I don't wish on anyone.

The Esteban Carreras was good; not outstanding, but good.

It's an Invictis. It was gifted to me by John Johnson one of the owners of Tre-J Cigar Company. This was a special blend by José Blanco. Really enjoyed this one.

I liked that one, but the Maduro is my favorite of the two. I still need to get some of the Sun Grown on my next order, to see what I think of them.

Sorry I didn't post last night with an update about Jack, all of the stress caught up to me and my health issues. We got him home and the surgeon was VERY pleased with everything, the before and after scans were like looking at two completely different puppies. His breathing has already become so much better (currently 20-30 per min, down from 60-70) Now he has the cone of shame and has to stay crated for most of the next 2 weeks (no free play, only out for a max of 5min for bathroom breaks and if he can relax sit in our laps a bit here and there). The incision is about 5" with 24 staples (won't show that image, don't want to put anyone off) According to the Dr. there will be no negative health impact once he is fully recovered, and everything else looked great when they were in there. AGAIN, thank you ALL so much, both my wife and I are both so grateful for all the kind words, prayers, well wishes, etc.. you are all a great bunch of people and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing community.

A mini review: Not too often I smoke two in a day, much less back to back. But after an uneventful first round and on a lazy spring-like day off that you might say was going at a snail's pace, I decided to give this curious little CAO V450 Spark Plug a go. The packaging is intriguing and unique as is the vitola itself with a befittingly oily wrapper and both a flat head and closed pigtail foot. On a reviewer's tip, I opted for a generous punch cut, lit the darn thing and was on my way to trying it out. Strong licorice with pepper in background hit me on first draw and remained throughout. As opposed to the day's earlier stick, this one held my attention on each ensuing puff by enveloping my tongue with a voluminous yet smooth, rich and tingly smoke. A successful first try, even ROTT, and one I'll be choosing again (preferably post-meal) when I want a smoke that is on the fuller side of medium-full that moves along nicely as it gains in strength to a last third crescendo with a swift nic kick. Granted, not an experience I relish too often but for when I do this one will fit the bill. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/7cb1cf2258b6e5e728de44547247be0f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/ac5ffe0d6f06e538cc7329f1c72ce113.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/cce0ae666a5f763f7fef04848722315e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/0152b8a9dbee49963a535a050ae37e9f.jpg

He is catching on that the "sad face" gets mommy to want to take it off, which we can as long as he doesn't try to mess with the staples (and that only happens in small spurts) She took this one of him snoozing, after losing the battle against the pain meds, which speaks for itself.

I am trying my friend, I got focused on him and just wasn't thinking straight, till it hit me. Mrs. Lightning decided to take the last couple days off to help me recoup during these first several days, which will help a lot.

Don Ruperto barberpole robusto.
It's supposedly a high class Honduran cigar. It's not very good but I'm not blaming the cigar.

A co-worker was gifted a small box of these from another co-worker who had just returned from Honduras. The recipient does not smoke cigars and promptly put them in his office closet and forgot about them for a couple years. Upon learning of my love of the fermented leaf, he gave them to me. I told him they were probably dried out beyond rehabilitation but I'd try. So I let them rest in the humi for a while.

I smoked one after 6 months in the slammer and it wasn't very good. The one I'm smoking now is the second and it's been there for about 1.5 years. Still not that great. I'm debating pitching it and getting something good but for now I'm sticking it out. Amidst the harshness I'm getting a few notes of really good, aged tobacco.

Perfecto Saturday. Regius Blue Label Perfecto...5.75x60~54. This excellent modern take on the classic Perfecto shape came courtesy of Brian (@Briny) along with one of the Red Label. Don't see as many perfectos now days, and this is one oversized cigar, that due to good leaf and excellent construction is a real pleasure to smoke. Thanks Brian, I sure did enjoy this Regius , and the red Label as well. Both fine smokes.

Then for Monday, I decided to give one of these a try since I have had them resting since June '17. I know 8 months may not seem like much rest to most, but these are from my first box purchase (the 7 that are left that is) and they are the oldest sticks I have, that I purchased. Either way they are good ROTT, but have to say just 8 months has made them much better. Always have to thank jhedrick83 for telling me about these.

Finally on the last leg of Jack's recovery, it is so hard to keep a 14 week old puppy from playing. He goes in Tue. morning, and we are praying that they not only take out the 25 staples, but also tell us he can return to somewhat normal activity levels now.

Anyhow, didn't have time for a smoke on Wed. But for Thur. I tried to relax with a Headley Grange Estupendos

Thank you, that's our prayer that he can now have a healthy long life with us.

So,
Went up to the hospital for Jack's 2 weeks post op this morning. Staples removed, cone removed, scan shows EVERYthing healed like it was supposed to and heart, lungs, and all the stuff that had slipped up into his rib cage are not only where they are supposed to be, but look 100% healthy. Stopped by the pet store to get him some goodies (toys and some special treats) and gave the little guy a bath. Talk about a happy puppy, now that he can play again, and the weight of the world pretty much lifted off our chests. Bumpy start, but wouldn't trade it for anything.

Wednesday Evening cigar. San Cristobal Seleccion Del Sol Fireplug...4.5x50. Don Pepin Garcia makes some fine cigars, and for me this is the best of the San Cristobals, with the Guajiro my choice of the current San Cristobal line up. The Fireplug has certainly gotten better and better over the years. Despite it's short length it's burn time is quite impressive, and that solid white ash holds on right down the short nub finish.

Define "last night"... like over 10 hours?

Damn, I couldn't put those down in a Day!

Decided that enough time had gone by for these to acclimate, time to see if they were worth the twenty cents I paid for them. The answer is most definitely! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180310/80f6c4bca27e500216ac9b5f481cbdff.jpg

Mid day Friday smoke. Vegas Cubanas Corona...5.5x44. Too windy on front porch had to transform this one to ash indoors. Good smooth retrohales as usual with these cigars.

Burn time: One Hour and Sixteen Minutes.
