Wednesday morning cigar. Vegas Cubanas Corona...5.5x44. Smoked this one indoors, but if I'd waited until say one PM could have burnt the cigar on front porch, temps did come up more than I could have expected. May try smoking out there this evening, have small heater that may well be all I need, so long as the wind does nt get too active.
Burn time. One HNour and Fourteen Minutes.

I could not resist, sorry. It was so cold overnight that my windshield washer fluid froze up and I could not get the wipers to keep the windshield clear. So not smoking anything right now.

January fifth 2018.Jamie Garcia Reserva Especia Belicoso...5.2 or 5.3x52. On this pleasant, bright Albedo early morning just set alight this well aged Cigar courtesy of My Secret Santa Brian. Does it pair well with Rum/I think it do thet jus fine. Like the pepper, just right retrohale. Wondring why I don't smoke these Jaime Garcias more often. It is a good cigar, top rate construction as expected, and always there in smokes from the Garcias My Father Factory.
Burntime...will find out anon.Edit: burn time: One Hour and Forty Minutes.

Here, from todays lead story in the Asbury ParkPress,on this Snow & wind happening is the advice offered to readers.
Not kiding this is it.

Honest thats the advice offered for today.

Yes Bob, that stick goes wonderfully with rum! I've paired it with scotch, tequila, rum and water, never disappointed.
And it definitely is worth having in your humi. I think that stick had at least 3 years on it. The pepper is a little more aggressive when fresher, but still a great cigar.
So how long did it take? I usually spend about 1.5 hours with it.

Afternoon smoke. Cabaiquan Guapos Robust Extra...5.2x50. Been a good while since I've smoked one of these. A bit more kick than remembered. Wrapper feels like a mid-range canvas, burns somewhat better'n it feels. even, slow burning cigar.
No way smoking on front porch, temp 14 F.feels one heckuva lot colder'n that
Unseasonable for mid July.
Stash,reserves,inventory,stock...no matter what I call it,tis real thin,so a pair of these came along at the right time.
Some ordered, slow to show up, don't think hanging about in this weather is good for them.
Once here will have to allow a little thrawing time in the Humidor before smoking.
Have some excellent well aged top shelf cigars that my Secret Santa (Brian) sent me, intend to wait untilI can enjoying smoking those on the front porch.
No pix. Burn time...An Hour and a Half.

Hi Brian,
Forgot to edit/post actual smoking time.
Burn Time was. An Hour and Forty Minutes. Burned as far down as possible.
Drinking a Leinenfkugel Summer Shandy, have tomatch the Beer to the season you know.
Seems, briain that a lot of our fellow Bums smoke faster than you or I.
Fully intended to smoke a Bishops Blend on New year"s Eve.
Things got too durnbusy. Now I'll wait until I can smoke it on the front porch, just need the temps and more importantly the wind to ease off,
bring my little heater out there and devote the time to that cigar it deserves.
Hope the New Year's going very wellfor you and yours.
Cheers,
Bob.

Smoked my first Jericho Hill on my "cigar walk" today. First half was fast and much like a filtered cigarette, so uneventful. Second half then settled into some flavor, the notes of which I can never tell anyway. Could be, which I have also found with familiar smokes this week, that the extreme cold is more inhibiting than releasing of the full flavors, and enjoyment, a cigar may have to offer so may try this again under more favorable conditions and see. Going to be in the 50's and above again soon so will wait on other "first-tries" 'til then for a fair shake.

It's a very good and straight stick, with not many transition and they all hang around the mild woody with acidic hints of flowers or fruits. So far I've not smoked a bad H&S, but their price is a bit higher then I'd like to pay for them.

And I don't blame you, if it wasn't for my propane heaters I would say screw winter and hibernate my habit until spring. So far I've only had to throw out 2 cigars because it got too cold to enjoy them and 2 because they performed incredibly crappy in the cold.
My favorite so far has been the Icon, I need to get more of those to be completely sure though :stogie:.

Out of synch posting, burn't this one before sun-up today, didn't have pix then. Cabaiguan Guapos RX Robusto Extra...5.2x50.
Just as the one smoked a few days ago this was a long slow burning cigar, tho a good deal less potent than the other.
Seldom notice variations like this.
Been a long while since I've smoked Cabaiquans, but don't recall much dif between cigars back then, Pepinmade smokes always quiite consistant.
My guess is the two smoked in the last couple of days were from different runs or, more likely stored under varied conditions before I got my paws on them.
Burn time: One Hour and Fifty Minutes.

Well...I've had the toro, the corona, the pig and now the belicoso, and I have to say I like this line. Maybe not as much as I like the shades, but I think this is a worthy stick for when you're in the mood for something woody and a bit spicy. I paired it with an Elijah Craig small batch and I think the buttery-sweet drink really enhanced my enjoyment of the pepper.

I smoked a few 5ers of these (Toros) some years back and they were excellent. I've tried several Pepins since but none were as satisfying as these Vegas Cubanos. At the time they didn't have the cache of other Pepin marques (do they now?) and (imho) the My Father Vegas Cubanos were good but not as consistent as these.

At the time they didn't have the cache of other Pepin marques (do they now?) and (imho) the My Father Vegas Cubanos were good but not as consistent as these.
Nearly 40 degrees outside - Woohoo! I have a little sun, some decent coffee light and a 5-Vegas Alpha (torpedo).
And, a Good Morning to you Pete.
Almost sixteen hours late, but it is Morning again.
Smoked some of the Vegas Cubanas toros back then.
Vegas Cubanas were the first Pepin made cigars I smoked and my favourite as well.
Was really sorry when production was stopped. Had I been paying attention would have tried to grab at least a few boxes.
Very happy to learn they'd be coming back. Picked up two boxes as quickly as I could, now abot a fifth of the way through my fourth box.
Maybe they were dropped from production once Garcia started making for so many others.
Most likely I'm wrong, as usual;, but I always figured that Pepin Garcia tried for the taste of a Cuban cigar with the Earlier Vegas Cubanas. They had that Cubanesque taste for me, whereas his other lines tended to be "heavier" stronger? and tending towards the larger ring gauges that had taken over, here in the USA, during the boom years.
Don't trust my 'taste memory' enuff to say the newest iteration of the V. C. matches the earlier but it suits me.
If I had to pick one non Cuban cigar as the only one I could have, day in day out. This Vegas Cubanas would get the nod.
Wouldn't be able to smoke as many if they were double the price, but would still be smoking them.
Cheers,
cheaphumidors

good Morning Pete,
Hadn't realized those two $100. cigars were out there . Sure do not feel the need to spend that much on a smoke.
Heck, would it not be far too ostentatious for a Cigarbum to be smoking either of those?
Using a $100 bill to your cigar?
Nope, not a good look for a true Cigarbum.
If some one wishes to flaunt their wealth in a conspicuous manner, do it right.
Use a $100 cigar to light your $100 cigar.

In the 50s here, yaay! Snow's melting nicely.
I remember when the Te-Amo sales missionary was worried about the impact when the Meditation price was bumped from 60c to 65c :)
I can still get a decent smoke for $5 and put the other $95 in my granddaughters college fund without feeling deprived. I may have to re-evaluate if $100 becomes a budget cigar :cigarette:
Either way I'll still light with stick matches. I should buy stock in Diamond (matches).

This was a gift from Tobias a while back. Been hoarding it because it came in a coffin :p I don't buy coffin cigars so this is the only one I had. However, I slid it open to inspect it and found a few dots of mauld so I decided to beat it to the punch.

Sunday late afternoon cigar. My Father Ediction CT Connecticut Robusto...5.2x52. This beauty from the My Father, master blender Pepin.Garcia was a much enjoyed change for me. Smoked on front porch this cool afternoon Loads of smoke and I was expecting a fast burning cigar. Once fired up, clouds of smoke like this and I'm thinking, maybe loosely rolled, but no. What we really have here is an excellent, flavourful cigar that most definately is not a fast burner by any means. A more interestig smoke than most other Connecticut cigars I've had, reminds in a way of theSan Cristobal Elegancias. Thanks Brain for sending me this excellent smoke.

Very faint pepper notes transitioning into an hour of rich creaminess (imagine smoking a roasted marshmallow) and ramping up the pepper again near the end.

Late last night the Weather Channel claimed I was getting snow so I grabbed a hand rolled cigar that I made and went to the garage:
https://s10.postimg.org/54sfubkll/IMG_3892.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/6ju0j1lol/)
As you can see my second attempt (being the better looking of the two) wasn't too pretty. But it burned wonderfully for the first boring half. But midway it burned uneven and became a bit harder to draw. However it began to gain a bit of character. By the end I found that it wasn't very dense as it was a bit squishy.
The filler was Dominican Seco Criollo '98, the binder was Nicaraguan, and the wrapper was Ecuadorian Seco Shade.
The mold measures 48 x 4.9" and this one didn't fill the mold. I suppose it's not bad for a purely hand rolled stick, but I clearly didn't orientate the leaf correctly. I was focused on ensuring the veins were running straight down the length of the body. Watching the video again afterwards I see he places the leaf at a 45* angle so that's what I'll try next time. According to the dude in the video I could use 3-5 filler leaves. The first that was made with 5 and was a hard squeeze for the mold as he said was good. The second I tried 4. I'll not being that again quite yet.
The copper fitting that came with the kit doesn't cut a large enough cap. I'll be ordering, by recommendation of Marc L, an Olfa 18 mm rotary cutting tool.
I had rehydrated some old 69% Boveda packs for my leaves. It's been a couple of weeks so I may try again soon.
With the lack of character I'm considering purchasing some Moduro wrapper leaves (1/4 lb?) from LeafOnly. Not sure if I'll just add the Ecuadorian Seco as filler, but was wondering about rolling them as intended and adding an additional wrapper. Or maybe I'll keep it for trying cigarillos with the scraps.

Odd taste like.....Bubblegum & Straw,I was told. No wait...that was the wine. Never had any Bubblegum.
The bottle of French White that came first was really good.
Correction... the French White wine bottle looked ok. The French White Wine was very good.

ALAN....Who or what is that .. spooky, hooded all in white figure with the "off white tail' in the backlground?
Do you have many like that vacationing in Oregon this time of year?
Don't often see tailed folk like that here abouts, think the wind blows 'em off of the Widowwalks.
If you manage to catch one, send it to RODWHA for classification.
Might be a new Albino variety of Ring tailed cat.

The big question is whether or not they are edible. And then which wood to smoke them over. Any idea AlanS?

LO's youtube channel has a vid showing to use the outer edge for the cutting edge. imagine rotating it to increase or decrease the size of the cap.

I did use the outer edge. But it produces such a small cap (~50 ring maybe).

Okay, Let me see if I can get you to over-stand me. lets say when you go to cut the cap like in the video and your turning it around to make a 50. Imagine rotating it outwards while your turning it around to increase size of the cap. Or, rotating it inwards while your turning it around to decrease the size of the cap. This way you only need one cap tool (casquillo). You see what I mean at all?
another thing, you might have seen caps applied that have a wrinkled edge. that is because the cap was cut to big. the cap needs to be cut small and stretched outward, around the head to create a smooth finish.

Ah, I do see what you mean. Funny as I began looking around for round objects I could take an exacto knife to that was larger. I suppose I should try what you stated first. Might well go at it again tomorrow and make two more.

See in as how Alan S hasn't chimed in with advice on which wood to use.
I'd say keep it simple, you catch one on the beach...driftwood. Might want to try the method someone mentioned here on Cigarbum...Steak on a stick, think it was.

FireTom. Good point. I think we all may have certain cigars in our humidors we seem to always "smoke around", and so, lately have been thinking what might make for a good thread is, "What's Your Oldest Stogies In Your Humidor?" and/or "What Cigars In Your Humidor Do You Just Never Smoke?" For various reasons, I have a few now going on 24 years old.

It is the AVO Mystery Note Robusto, it is a trial blend that they put out and ask for feedback on. Once you smoke one you put in the 3 digit code on the band and fill out a survey on their site. I got it in the AVO Syncro Robusto Quartet Sampler from CI

Evening Wednesday. Regius Red Label...5.75 x60`54. Have refrained from smoking this cigar that I received from Brian, my Secret Santa, until I had something that to celebrate by setting this oversized Perfecto afire. Aware of the high marks given to the Regius cigars on Cigarbum wanted to be sure I could fully concentrate on it with little worry about being interrupted. Today the time had come to cut, light and smoke this cigar that reminds of the popularity Perfectos enjoyed way back when. How far back? Think of the time when the El Producto Bouquet was a 'class' smoke at most Tobacconists. Perfectos of the 1940's 1950's would have been one of the top choices for weekend cigars. This Red Label's girth does make me doubt the wisdom of smoking a dirigible sized bundle of tobacco leaves. Today's big ring gauge cigars are so common it's the shape that catches the eye. This is one fine cigar, one I'm glad I did get to enjoy after so long a wait.
Reason for celebrating? heck yeah, holding off on lighting it up for so long's all the reason needed. Lot of quality tobacco in this well constructed Habano wrapped beauty, so yup t'would make a fine weekend cigar any, or every, day of the week.
Burn time: One Hour and Thirty Eight Minutes.

Regius. Is that the brand we got to "test-smoke" a few years back? Thanks.

Glad that you enjoyed it Bob.
If I put together my top 10 it would be in there.
I really like those. The only size I have had is lancero and they are awesome.

Thursday. Vegas Cobanas Corona..5.5x44. Along with two cups of good hot coffee smoked this one on front porch, bit cool, 46F. Uneven burn line once lit, self corrected and real nice all the way to the end, real nice retrohale. Wake up smoke done well before dark.
Burn time. An Hour and Twenty Three Minutes.
