Little late but over the weekend I smoked an original release RP Decade which was quite good and a LP 9 that was about 7 years old. I remember paying $5.80 for it.

Thursday's cigar. Roma Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion Jefferson...4.5x52. Didn't get a chance to enjoy a smoke until early this evening. Selecting this one was a bit of a shot in the dark after all it's a bit short for a Robusto size, as well as a bit stouter, that extra Ring Gauge quite obvious at a glance. A Rothschild, yup that'll do for size/name, as if this cigar needed still another name. Good looking cigar the double bands work well even on so short a size. Easy light after a quillotine cut, lots of thick smoke.Expected a strong cigar but this is a smooth ride all the way. Never a hint of harshness, very sharp burn line...much longer burn time than one would expect given the size. Best smoking Rothschild I can recall. Thanks to a great, and most generous BOTL WNY TONY for this thoroughly enjoyable smoking experience.

Awesome coaster? Where did you get it?
Thanks Jesse,
I made it a few weeks back using a small tile (we used them on the island in the kitchen and have loads leftover) some homemade mod podge and some clear glaze spray. Just took some of the bands that I have been saving, got them in place with the mod podge and then let it dry. Trimmed the edges flush with the tile and did 3 coats of the glaze, only took overnight to dry and be ready to use.
Had my first Diesel tonight, thanks to cheaphumidors
Was really pleased with it too, I will have to get more of these when I get a chance. Thanks Kayla!

Pioneer Valley Churchill (7" x 50) Maduro (broadleaf), Dr. Brown's Black Cherry (diet) soda.
Pioneer Valley cigars have been a consistent, better yard gar value but this box, whether a new blend or more aged stock, is a different kettle of fish.
12th stick from this box and each has been exactly the same. Solid construction, perfect burn (no touch-ups) and a more distinct taste profile than in the past. Melba toast with black current jam with a little cocoa around the edges and a (lightly) spiced smoky cedar snork. Not highly complex but certainly not simple, it doesn't have the deeper notes if the Rocky Patel Broadleaf but otherwise it outperforms that one in every other way. Taste is consistent throughout the smoke, intensifying only slightly but you don't need to search for flavour and the current jam lingers nicely on the palate.

Saturday Evening. El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme...6.1x49. Not sure how much age this one has on it, but did smoke well. Sorry I don't have a picture of this cigar, good looking wrapper doesn't have the flavour changes or the "smoothness" of a Paul Stulac Lord or a My Father Crema. But plentiful amount of smoke and even burning with out harshness.

Monday Night Cigar. Emilio Drtaig K...5x50. Robusto size . Very Dark Wrapper, has to be a Maduro, guillotine cut, easy light. Some taste shift coming durung the first two-three minutes of smoking.Slight uneven burn line from start to finish, but not needing any relight or touching up. Flavour seemed unchanged for the duration, strength may have increased a bit near the mid point, but then dropped ever so slightly toward the end. Burned very well despite high Temp and Humidity. Nice burn time for a Robusto. Another Cigar I'd never've had the pleasure of smoking if WNYTONY hadn't Bombed me with this one. Thanks muchly Tony.

Try the hatching thing with a Toaster Oven or Microwave Oven.
That way if the first few tries didn't work out as hoped, a little more time & higher temps would get 'em ready to eat.

Been working through some Broadleafs (Rocky Patel and Pioneer Valley) interspersed with the Cinqo Vegas Gold that I find to be a nice CT. Makes a good combination.
For 30 years I kept cigars in 8 humidifier tubs. The best cigars went into the most trusted tubs (2) but they leaked and I lost 1100 cigars, including 700 cubans dating back to the 1970s. Wish I could have smoked a few but in the scheme of things no big loss and a couple of buying rounds on cBid gives me something to smoke. In the tobacco department I'm all good. :)

Hi Joel,
Barclay-Rex is a storied NYC Tobacconist. I last was in the Pearl Street store in 2001 and the 42nd Street store a couple of years later. The main store (now Pearl Street) had been located on Maiden Lane and I believe was opened on Barclay Street ~1912. I trust the Nastri family still owns them and they are class folks.

Graycliffe G2 Maduro Torpedo with coffee w/milk & cream.
Another broadleaf like the Pioneer Valley and Rocky Patel and perhaps the best of the 3. Has better integrated depth than the RP, consistent construction and burn with slightly less bright but better married flavors than the PV. More like a cherry cordial than current jam (PV). A nice smoke, surprising at the price point for Graycliffe that I usually don't find to match its reputation.

My bad, I don't see small details well to see the action of the legs.
I started with harness racing but then moved to thoroughbreds. I was deeply involved with them for over 15 years, less so for 20 years prior, as a breeder, owner and bloodstock advisor. I grew to like the farm life considerably and think that would have been a wonderful place to grow up as you did. Would like to hear more about your horse life if you choose to share.

Wife is still shook up about it and upset that there's a $500 deductible but this is $7,000 or more in damage making the $500 small potatoes. Going to a good shop we've used for 25 years. I think it was a road sign that was previously hit and not taken of the way (it was on an expressway exit) and the post did the main damage. Sure looks like the car had a giant can opener used on it.

Now that's one fine looking Havana to relax with Pete.
Evening Bob,
Montecristo #2 is an elegant smoke, very smooth and consistent, good (not great burn), tastes like the leaf was very well aged. Sneaky strong with lots of earth, subtlety and depth. Had to put them back in the cooler or I'd smoke them up.
Fought with another Rocky Patel Broadleaf Churchill earlier. They have flavor but I've had consistency problems with all RP marques. Fooled myself when I had a solid 5-pack (robusto) and and bought three boxes of the Churchills. Maybe the stouter rings are better, certainly more firmly packed.
5-Vegas Gold Toro with spring water. I like these, nicely made Ecuadorian CT wrapper sticks, good citrus with some cream and cedar. I wrote a review of Ecuadorian CT wrapped sticks a while back and I'd put these toward the top of the list. Noted that the recent couple of Macanudo Hype Park that I smoked appear to have changed to Ecuadorian CT from Connecticut wrappers, definitely not the same, caught me by surprise but they are deeper and more complex than the 5-Vegas but less bright flavors. For my tastes it's a switch I can live with but there's none of the old Jamaican type taste that was at least hinted at in the Dominican (lightly sweet molasses like the old Royal Jamaican). Don't know if the rest of the Cafe series is using the Ecuador wrapper and not so sure it will fly with long time Mac smokers.
Sitting on the deck listening to a Willie & Lobo mix on Pandora on a seasonably mild but not cold night.

Pete,
As for the cleaning question, it basically boils down to a case of OCD. Before I have my first pipe or cigar of the day, I go out and wipe down the little table on the back porch as well as all the accessories. I really need to upgrade my cigar ashtray, ATM I am using the Escudo tin to collect ash for pipe mud. Seeing as I already have 2 16oz jars full you would think I could stop, you would think... LOL
Beautiful day today, low 70's slightly overcast couldn't resist having a two cigar day. Decided to give the Chillin' Moose Too a try, I thought it was pretty good, especially at that price. I still like the originals more, but will get theses again to switch things up from time to time

Monday Evening early. Crowned Heads Jericho Hill Long Black Veil...6.5x46. No surprise that what was a simple little trade turned into an all out bombing in the hands of WNYTONY. Now this one required a bit of patience (very rare for me) to allow it so much humidor time before smoking. This was the right time to light up and enjoy this cigar with the usual two cups of good hot coffee. One darn nice smoke. Thanks TONY.

Late riser today. Being up from 2-7am might be the cause? :)
2017 5-Vegas Gold Toro with coffee light.
I used to list manufacturing year (as I did here) to qualify my comments based on age but going forward (almost) all my smokes will be current. I kept too many cigars so that I often lost perspective by not having smoked a particular brand/size newer. My own 'personal comment log' is in my head and the older I get I realize that memories can get scrambled but oddly, perhaps because it involves multiple senses, my memories of tobacco and cigars seems to be relatively accurate. Of course this just might be my brain prioritizing! :)
Smoked my first Macanudo Hyde Park 50 years ago (13) and I smoked several over time and they were unmistakably Jamaican but distinct from Royal Jamaican/Mario Palomino and others. Dramatic change when production moved to Dominican Republic very much the Olor profile that was in fashion then.
I bring this up because new Mac Hyde Parks now have an Ecuadorian CT taste profile. The Mac has more depth, the 5-Vegas brighter but otherwise there's not much difference between these sticks and my preference leans to the latter.

For some reason I noticed more or deeper flavours while smoking this cigar compared to the one smoked on Sunday.
Left wondering if it was the change in the weather or that this one wasn't lit until about two hours after having two cups of coffee.
None of the five or six Matildes already smoked from this box had this level of taste/flavour.
Have to smoke another in a days time to compare.

Morning Pete,
After reading your post it occured to me that while I remember the Macanudos being Jamaican it's alway the Royal Jamaicans that I associate with that location. But I'm pretty sure there was another Jamaican line that I liked as well, but have forgotten what it was.About to call it a night and get some shut eye.

Afternoon Bob,
I suspect that you're referring to Mario Palomino that was, back in the day, probably the 3rd most popular brand from Jamaica had a deeper 'Jamaican' syrup (but I smoked them aged before aged was a thing) than the RJs. Creme de Jamaica and Jose Edmundo (my first cigar) were smaller brands and there were a few others but I can't think of them now. A hurricane (don't remember the name) wiped out factories and companies, sadly, decided not to rebuild.
For those who never tried one of these Jamaican cigars they had a rich, warm honeyed molasses taste layered over earth and leather that varied in intensity between brands. Very unique flavor that's lost to cigar smokers.
Rocky Patel Broadleaf Churchill with spring water.
Doing battle with these. Pardons to anyone who likes RP but I have yet to find a line of theirs that don't have significant QC issues and these may be the worst. No two sticks smoke or taste the same. Poor burn (pretty much all), constant relighting and touch-up that alters the flavor. I don't get along with Manual Quesada made cigars (not a QC issue, I just don't like his blending) and I've bought my last RP. Unfortunately I have about 100 left to smoke! :). On the other hand, I seem to like just about anything that AJ Fernandez makes. Some of smoking enjoyment is personal chemistry and of course taste but these RP Broadleaf Churchills aren't fun when you need to fight them all the way down. Try the Pioneer Valley and Graycliffe G2 (both in maduro) that are superior broadleaf sticks and less expensive.

Evening Pete,
Don't think it was the Mario Palomino. Creme De Jamaica maybe, but really can't recall. The best Jamaicans were right up there with the Cubans back then. "For those who never tried one of these Jamaican cigars they had a rich, warm honeyed molasses taste layered over earth and leather that varied in intensity between brands. Very unique flavor that's lost to cigar smokers." That must be what made them so enjoyable to smoke, but I'd never have found a way to explain just what it was that made them so unique, as you've here.Liked the Canary Island s cigars too, but they I think seemed closer to the Cubans,in a muted or softer way.
Expect,Pete that when some of the others read coments about smoking cigars *fifty years ago." they're picuring us sitting on the front porch or stoop enjoying that evening cigar with the collar removed from our shirt as we watch the Old Lamplighter making his way along the street.
Well time to find another cigar to smoke and maybe some Root Beer to pair with it..

Wednesday virtually ROTT. San Cristobal Seleccion Del Sol Fireplug...4.5x50. Had almost given up on ever finding any of these long out of production Fireplugs. Lit just seventeen minutes after 12:20 pm delivery.
The Guarjiro was my favourite regular San Cristobal with these little Fireplugs in my top spot for the Seleccion Del Sol. After smoking this one right down to finger burning time. Later in the afternoon smoked a Matilde Renacer Robusto which tho good didn't match the well aged Fireplug. Not even close, and I do like the Matilde.
Was very, very glad to see Don Pepin Garcia bring back the Vegas Cubanas line but have given up on seeing a return of the Del Sol Fireplug. My guess is that the blen, Sun Grown wrappe, Garcia used in the Del Sol was then used by Pepin Garcia in another Ashton cigar.
Not sure of burn time, but guess it was about an hour.

I'm not the baller that you are Jerry but they are excellent in my book. I'd rather have one of these than the other big dollar Fuentes, but they are also on the milder side. Can be tough to find I guess - I've heard they are only given to shops who meet a certain purchase level. Luckily I have such a shop near me.

By far the best Casa Cuba IMO. Iād say they are pretty close to the high end Fuentes as well. Mine are a funky color but they are so damn good! Small Batch had them for a while, I assume they will pop back up there from time to time.

 I should probably send you one or two to try, you address hasn't recently changed has it ?
if you are talking about the football league, I am hanging on but need to do much better. address is still the same but that would be extremely generous. had seen them at small batch, I think, and curious. I like a lot of the Fuente line

Great find on the Seleccion Del Sol! That was my favorite San Cristobal line and I was sad to see it go.

Early Friday Evening smoke. Paul Garmirian Gourmet Series Connoisseur 2013 Symphony 20...6x52.
Held off on smoking this excellent cigar that WNYTONY had so gracously sent me until I could be certain of an uninterupted lenght of time to enjoy it.
Had a hunch that this could be an exceptional cigar, one that would reward one smoking slowly whilst paying attention to what was on offer.
Right from the start there was an awareness of 'something' out of the ordinary,a unique quality maybe owing to the age of the tobaccos used in the blend.
Fir, very glad I set aside the time giving this cigar the attention deserved.
Thanks again, TONY.

Yep! I think you will enjoy it, I sure did. As you know im not able to describe the flavors as much as some, but it was very nice. Not much pepper of any sort, not even on the retro. It had a nice long finish, mild - medium strength, produced a fair amount of smoke. Don't remember if this was the natural or the maduro.
Had it resting for at least 18 months and I think I have another plus 2 of whatever this is not (natural/maduro).

Hi Bob,
Gorgeous day here too, wish I had been out early. :)
Knew Rob Levine (Holts/Ashton) pretty well in the day, good guy. I bought cigars (retail) from them for several years and I tried (and liked) San Cristobal. The Old Henry was a good value made by Pepin Garcia too I believe. Rob knows cigars and is one of the best connected people in the industry so their marques like San Cristobal are very good indeed.

Hi Brian,
You did a good job of describing this stick. I felt the same way until I gradually started to associate terms like 'leather', 'earth', 'cedar', 'cream', 'whateverberry', etc., with what I was tasting and realized that though somewhat abstract it was the flavor being discussed. More important are the points that you described because all the 'leather' in the world is subject to what you said, if it's not burning well or falls apart it's immaterial.

I thought it was pretty good; not great. It was very good for being around $5 from a local B&M. These are all AJF. I picked up the connie and Maduro at the same time to try. It was a nice shorter smoke in the petite corona; which for me I can stretch to 45 minutes (I'm a slow smoker).

If you like bold Nicaraguan blends, this is for you. Like a bag of charcoal brickettes.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171024/15fead3b42ef348f243f18616c194151.jpg

Very firm and dense. Chocolate on pre-light draw. Medium pepper. Perfect draw. Had a little bit of uneven burn halfway through that required some touch-ups. Could have been due to the breezy downdraft from the ceiling fan directly above. Chocolate flavors ebbed in and out. Pepper spice intensified in final third.
