Two timing the Magicos on Monday. LaImperiosa Magicos Oscuro...4.5x52.
Smoking the same brand/blend two days in a row is starting like like a habit.
Only a single cigar on Monday.
Again the La Imperiosa Magicos, and this one had a bit more power over the first half.

Burn time: One hour and forty-five minutes, not too shabby for a shorty.

Much different from the regular Undercrown with hint of vanilla and cream. Very nice and almost completely different cigar IMO.

Tuesday' smoke. HR Sublimes...6.5x54.
First one of these in awhile, still the most flavourful cigar I've smoked this year. While the Robianas hold their own with other Havanas, such as the RASS, these Hirochi Robiana blended cigars match, in every respect those produced by Don Pepin Garcia, it's the complex flavour changes that's the real story. With every size in the HR line right at the same flavour level despite a realitvely high price point there's that value for money that makes them a real treat.
A big cigar, my favourite pen 's kinda dwarfed along this cigar.

I used to feel the robusto was just perfect. These days I think I like a corona or a lonsdale I think. A 50 ring is just a bit much to me. But then I'm a smaller framed 5'8". But I don't mind going a bit over 50, especially if it's a box pressed smoke.

To the best of my recollection a Corona was a big cigar, that is a full sized one, then there were Panatelas/Lonsndales and Churchills.
Perfectos were I think a slightly shorter cigar than the Coronas, the shape very popular tho.
Don't recall any cigars, other than Novelties, with ring Gauges of 50 or larger.
Tho I do smoke some of the larger sizes now,, I'm back to the Corona ~ Lonsdale ~ Lancero sizes most of the time.

Expect have come full circle in terms of Ring Gauge...right back to when Cars had Running Boards.

The few coronas I've had were mid 40 ring and about 5.5".

I've even had the little smokes from CAO and Nat Sherman that are just under 40 ring and about 4" strike my fancy. I don't care for anything much smaller though. Avo also has one but it's hard to find so I haven't tried them.

The Kudzus I got for Christmas are toros (52 x 6) but box pressed, and a lancero (40 x 6.5). Love these smokes!

Hi Bob, Southern Draw makes some really fine cigars, don't often see them mentioned, but they're good. Seeing as how you're in Texas reckon you don't have a hard time finding them. Firethorn are nice as are the Quick Draw, Petite Coronas.
Funny thing, "Corona" is a pretty flexible in terms of size, some being 7" in length and 44 Ring Gauge...Panatela/Lancero size.
There're a few Gems in the 35-36-37 RG, little hard to find, but they're there.
Cheers,
Bob.

I've only had the Kudzu but have been wanting to try the others. I was handed one while visiting a local brewery where I had met an owner two weeks prior at a beer/music festival and got to talking about a jalapeņo cream ale. Very nice fellas out there at Solid Rock Brewery!

Only this. La Imperiisa Magicos Oscuro...54.5x52. On a damp and dreary December day a blue banded cigar seemed quite fitting.
Shoulda plugged in and turned on the Heater, or smoked indoors.

Had a pleasant Torano Master this evening, courtesy of our friend AlanS. Good solid smoke, burned for about two hours, the second of which was a bit chilly as the propane in my heat lamp depleted and winter is starting to set in here in northern VA. Time for a trip to Tractor Supply to fill up the gas bottles!

Made by Jason Holly, the Viva Republica owner. It was a good smoke, reminds me of their other smokes just a bigger vitola. They have a bit of a rustic appearance, in that the wrappers are kind of vieny and rough looking.

Although it was very fresh, purchased from a local B&M i could tell it would be a great cigar with the minimum of a month in the humi. Light pepper some rich coffee notes and a bit creamy. The draw was perfect after about 2 1/2 inches due i believe how fresh it was. Strength Med-Full the last 3rd really took off. Overall a good cigar probably rate much better if properly rested and humidified. You should try one if ya see one. I live in CT so it's cool to smoke a cigar with a local Headquarters. I find the Armistead to be my favorite so far.

I'll have to pick up an OPK next time I'm at that shop. Thanks for the info.
And with a name like Vegas you're actually in CT ? Who'd have thought

Smokin' some burgers and jalapeņos, and grabbed a Christmas smoke, one I truly love:

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh640/rodwha/IMG_1801_zpssi1cwt65.jpg

I have to say it began with that rough start, though it mellowed a bit quicker than I've typically seen. But I've had smoother cigars that ruined an IPA, yet this is designed for them and pairs excellently. How is this??? I've often figured a mild cigar would be the way to go with a hop forward beer.

Morning Cigar. Quesada Reserva Privada...4.7x52. After some good hot Coffee realized I was starting to wake up, din't smell any smoke.
Fixed that by setting this one afire. Brilliant move on a wet and nasty Morning.

I've been on the downhill and have needed to forgo my hobby funds for a bit, but once things are straightened back up I may well be able to fix ya up if you can't find them. They seem to be rather scarce.

Oh, and these (Kudzu) is exceptional, especially pairing with a hop forward beer. Unlike anything I've tried as everything else has either dampened or killed the beers. I've been meaning to try their others.

I'm about 2 inches into in and I'm liking it. I'd say it's a medium bodied smoke. Excellent draw and good smoke volume. I do get a citrus and sweetness on the retrohale, very nice...and a familiar flavor I can't pin down.

This one is right out of a humipac and it's a little soft...a bit moist. I probably should have sat on it for a month or two at 65 rh. Even so, it's burning good and has a good draw.

At the 1/2 way point I get a little pepper spice and a woody earthy flavor making me think there's Nicaraguan tobacco here (I don't know the makeup of this cigar). It has also built on the body...going from mild side of medium to medium plus now.

The last third has more of pepper on my tongue and lips...Also still taste the citrus. It doesn't blow me away on the retro though...Medium plus at most. Overall a very nice smoke and I like it as much as the Covenant I smoked last night.

Wednesday's Smoke. Talavera Edicion Exclusive by My Father, Corona...5.6x46.
Easily the best smoke I've had this year. like the size and construction, burn line, etc
all fine as one would expect from Don Pepin Garcia. A good cigar.

Burn time: Two hour and twenty five minutes.Neat the way when you've the time and in the mood to appreciate a cigar...the time stretches.

It was a nice mild-medium smoke. I'd smoke it again, but not scouting a box on cBid just yet. Maybe a fiver, I gave it a pretty good which in my ratings world means if you find a fiver at a great price then ok.
I had the Genesis long ago and I liked this more than that, but I have no idea how much rest either one had - both came in trades / bombs.

Late Saturday Afternoon cigar. Liga Privada Velvet Rat...6.5x46. Thank to my Secret Santa a.ka. Sean The Evens I had this beauty from Drew Estate to smoke.
Been waiting until I'd be able to spend the time required and could focus on the cigar without interruption.Being 'snowed in" has an upside sometimes.
Was right in thinking this was one Lonsdale that would take a fair amount of time to smoke. The burn line was a bit wavy over the first fifteen-twenty minutes,
but needed only two slight touch ups, then nothing at all to do but enjoy the cigar along with a few drops of Rum & Coke. Tend to do a good deal of Retrohaling
when smoke a cigar I really enjoy, and the Velvet Rat was exceptional in this department.
Don't know what to say in regard to strength other than that it's a smooth sort of potent all along the way.
One very,very nice smoke.
Big thanks to my S.S. Sean.
Much appreciated and most throughly enjoyed.
Velvet Rat on the right in this image. Burn time two hours and forty six minutes.

That my friend is a spectacular cigar. I'm a huge Roma craft fan. Just picked up a 5 pack of those today. Also dig the Neanderthal. The Cromagnon is not as strong, but i feel the flavors are much more pronounced and create a great tasting cigar. Enjoy...

I have a Sosa Selection that's being rat holed. I like the regular gold labeled Sosa bundled cigars in the robusto vitola, but they need several months naptime. I used to keep some around, but I don't think I have any left at this juncture of my wonderful and exciting life......

Having half a Brohiba tonite, first cigar in a while - been cowering from the cold wx lately, but it's warming up today.

Why only half? Quality control issue. Some of them have draw issues, so I don't hand those out (reputation to uphold here, ahem). But of course I'm too cheap to relegate them to the scrap bag either, so I attempt to smoke them myself. Cutting a stick in half tends to reduce draw issues by about 50% :)

You may wonder, won't it unravel? No problem, I glue the entire outside edge of the wrapper. MilSpec, baby!

In France, Lyon, I think it was, the evening before a big Bike race the parking lot and street around the Sporthotel were the racing team and Press were staying team were staying, most of the Autos had their wipers up and waving, with little, think Christmas tree, attached lights, lit. Plus indicator lights bliinking. Just in case someone hadn't noticed all the team equipment and TV Vehicles. Good food there plus Champagne breakfast before the start of the race.

Thoughts??
It's gotten better with a little rest. I bought a fiver from the devil site at the beginning of October and smoked one ROTT and wasn't impressed. It seemed almost bitter and harsh. After three months of rest it has mellowed out enough to be a decent smoke but I think I'll give the remainder some more time. On a positive note, they do seem to be well constructed and the burn was near flawless.

I'd move to TX in a heartbeat, but then I'd have to find a new wife - she can't take the heat. I think she' be happy if we moved to Barrow, AK :) So VA is a good compromise.

I'd move to TX in a heartbeat, but then I'd have to find a new wife - she can't take the heat. I think she' be happy if we moved to Barrow, AK :) So VA is a good compromise.

The heat coupled with the high humidity makes the summers horrific. We (mostly me) refuse to camp during the summers. Fall to spring it's on though. I've camped in the 20's in January having the whole state park to myself once before. A park ranger checked on me in the AM and PM each day and eventually had me ride along with him around the park. Cool guy!

We actually looked at moving out west of D.C. Instead we moved from San Antonio to Lakeway and love it (outside of the summers, but then that's what the lake is for!).

We've been hoping to find a month to walk a portion of the Appalachian Trail and would possibly be in or around VA or maybe NJ as my aunt lives up that way and is a lot of fun to hang out with and would probably find a way to go out with us for a portion of it.

Noontime Thursday's cigar.Crux Niinfamaniac Natural...7x33. This is a cigar that leaves no doubt about the skill required of the rollers.
The construction is spot on ,blend of tobaccos all of these elements come together to deliver an extremely even burning cigar.
One that needs no touch ups or relights. Smoked slowly, as it should be, it delivers pure smoking pleasure start to finish.

Burn time: An hour and thirty four minutes.

The garage was warm, and the cigar was great.

Really? The garage was warm? You are wearing GLOVES, how warm could it be?

I heard there were seven-eight houses left in Broken Arrow OK. Hell of a nice place to live as long as you don't need those uppity singers and actors and such telling you that you're missing out on watching those singers and actors acting like singers and actors acting out being singers and actors telling you you don't know who you voted for.......

Errrrr......stay still and let the ducks come to you. Don't know about the east coast, but the Central Flyway ducks are a bitch to chase as they have wings and fly and chasing them is futile......

Today's report:
Had a Graycliff Turbo Special Edition at the shooting range where I stopped on the way home from the black hole of bureaucracy (took off a bit early). It was good, but not one of the premium Graycliffs.

After dinner, put a fire in the fireplace and another fire at the far end of a Sancho Panza Triple Anejo which is an excellent bargain cigar. Kind of wierd burn though - I had to puff gingerly, or heat would come in thru the edges of the wrapper and burn my lips (?!)
