omg I love these and cannot find them ANYWHERE. I bought the sampler from CI about 1 1/2 years ago and they got better with time. I only have 2 left so have been saving them

I think NeverBend had some info on the Pueblo Dominicanas and why they're no longer available. Or at least some history, right Pete? I feel like you did a review a while back with some good info.

How did it smoke?

Kris (@ProjectSunFire),

I can appreciate your enthusiasm, as Tim (@Cardinal) mentions, I do like these Pueblo Dominicano. AJ Fernandez made, with 6 months age or more they're like a richer, fuller but smoother version of Pinolerlo (also AJ). One of the best snorking cigars I've ever had. Slight differences between 2012 and 2013 batch, but aside from the silly band artwork, these were a great purchase and an exciting cigar. I like AJ's blends, well suited to my taste, and the Pueblo is the best of his cigars that I've tried.

Pete

2009 Fonseca 1907 Toro Natural with coffee light (half n' half).

This natural is far better than the stinker EMS version, a decent milder Dominican, but it took years of age to get to this point. This one was starting to smoke really well because as I write about the Pueblo, it was taking on taste elements of the better cigar and I found my mouth watering. Mental suggestion indeed!

Hi Tim,

Thanks for jogging my memory about the review that I wrote in August, 2015
http://www.cigarbum.com/forum/non-habanos-reviews/pueblo-dominicano-4559.html?highlight=pueblo+dominicano

I forgot that I'd written it, a lot of stuff happened right after that.

It smoked great. The first half-inch or so was a bit mediocre, but it came to life after that. It had a smooth, aged character to it.

Hi Farrell,

The 2013 start off as nothing special, just as you noted. Glad you liked it.

The snork (retrohale) starts aggressively but smooths quickly and has sweet caramel-milk with spice, very Cubanesque.

2004 Hoyo de Monterrey Torpedo with coffee light (cup #2), glorious morning.

These are good cigars, perfect burn and like a mild Bolivar in look, construction, taste, retro but a little tight on the pack, but still a reasonable draw. Bob (@Allusred), I suspect that these may not have been regular line sticks but they aren't marked differently. JR had a very close working relationship with Danby-Palicio / Villazon for many years and they made so many Hoyo marques, some good, some pretty bad.

JR ran a special about 8 years ago, buy a bundle of Hoyos and get a free denim jacket. Jackets were top shelf quality and I was giving them as gifts. Unfortunately the Hoyo cigars were inconsistent, some good and others mediocre.

Hi Brian,
I'm with you on the HR cigars. They've impressed me most of any I've smoked this year. Hiroschi Robiana has shown(me) that he can create/blend an outstanding cigar of great complexity working here with non Cuban leaf.Bit pricy, but the top quality justifies the co$t in this case
Have you tried the other sizes in his line?

Grimalkin Torpedo...6.5x52. Used a V cut and had to use a poker once to improve the smoke output.Have not one of these for a while and discovered flavours that I do not recall getting from a Grimalkin before, not a great increase, but easily noticed. Total burn time was an hour and fifty six minutes, would have gladly continued for at least another hour.

First Diesel Rage, don't know the brand. Disappointing start, sloppy cap that started uncoiling when cut and it's lumpy. Burn's ok for thick stick, tastes like AJ Fernandez (that I usually like) but not much different than the La Herencia that's 1/2 the price. Will report more later.

Only a few minutes into this one....7x40. About to brew some of the Cafe du Mond, should say some more because I've been drinking cups of this coffee through out the day, this coffee pairs very nicely indeed with this cigar.
Photo is of one of these smoked on Tuesday this week, construction's always spot on and this one should last two hours.

Won't keep you guessing what these are...if you will allow me to, will send one your way, would like very much indeed to know how you would find it to smoke and especially what if any flavours/notes you might sense in it.Only a very, very of the few changes, flavours I'm able *get* in a cigar can I put a name to.Just don't have the palete, or it may be burned out, even tho I seldom smoke cigars.Would really like get your take on one of these Pete.

Latest installment of my perpetual cigar and tobacco trading with a BOTL co-worker. He surprised me with this as he usually operates in the higher strata of the cigar realms, but he got 30 of these for about $20. So it's a cheapie, but I would put it in the class of good cheapies. Nice Sumatra wrapper, slightly sweet flavor that doesn't get bitter if I keep the smoking speed down.

Many thanks for all the kind birthday wishes from you guys, much appreciated. Barbecue and sushi sounds like a great combination.

2014 La Herencia Cubana Core Toro with some de-caf coffee light, given to me by my daughter, Ashley for my birthday just for such use.

Brian (@Brimy), thanks for the manufacturer of the Diesel. That stick tasted like a lighter, less mature version of Pueblo Dominicano, so I liked the taste, but the unraveling head, in a 60 gauge, was a problem at the end. 60 gauge can be a tricky burn and they also mask some of the oomph with their size. I'll try another.

The Core is loosely filled and box pressed but it's surprisingly long burning. It seems to be AJ's answer to the Padron Series, similar in pack, presentation and taste profile but the Core looks and burns better and longer and the Padron has more depth and nuance.

The end of both gets sloppy (too soft), the Core is good but I prefer the La Herencia Cubana Oscuro (especially the Belicoso), that's a no nonsense flavor bomb but lacks the nuance of the Padron.

I've smoked 2-3 of them now. The size isn't my normal favorite (6x60) but they're good for when I need a 3hr smoke, which pretty much means I'm writing a paper or working on some kind of schoolwork.

I like all the yearly V Maduro releases that I've had ('08, '11, '13, and '15) but I wish they'd go back to the torpedos or robustos instead of these monsters. The '08 was the best, using a Connecticut Broadleaf while the last 5-6 years have been Mexican San Andres wrapper.

The truth is I like the regular Serie V better, but then again I like the V better than almost everything and these are great for a changeup.

Tim,

There is incongruity in smoking an Oliva V and speaking of doing homework, alters the image of the struggling student a bit, but it's clear that you were frugal in choice of a cutting utensil and that is where the gap was narrowed. I can think of no more deserving student to smoke an Oliva V, but I propose that we (collectively) buy you a cutting instrument that matches your class upon graduation. I'm in for $20, anyone else?

2009 Fonseca 1907 Natural with Diet Pepsi, no ice.

The Plant Ranch was a great place to buy young plants. They supplied Home Depot and their ilk but you could go there and buy tomatoes, peppers, etc., at 25% of the big box retail. Alas, Plant Ranch is no longer selling retail so we bought smaller plants at Stew Leonards and will plant them this week, with fingers crossed.

The Fonseca is ok, a yardgar, but that's better than it's EMS incarnation.

Haha, now that really did make me laugh! That's my travelin' cutter, I keep a Xikar at home so I don't accidentally leave it someplace. And the V made homework a little more tolerable, that's for certain.

In any case most people probably would say that the $2 cutter actually does match my class, and who am I to argue?

Don't see how that cigar would have been able to walk very far, in or out of the Sunlight while confined in that tight ceder pencil skirting. But seeing as how you're in Portland, must accept that durn near any thing's possible. Alan, you were lucky to lasso the critter before a certain Little Red Devil shot and ate it

If the give a little back then your life is less miserable, but that's too often asking it to rain cucumbers

2010 Hoyo de Monterrey Rothschild with coffee, light (cream). I mentioned these sticks, buy a bundle and get a free denim jacket (nice quality).

Age has really helped these, good body and nuance and excellent burn and a nice harmonious flavor. When ROTT they were so much less.

The 2004 Hoyos Torpedos that I've been smoking are really good (as I've noted). At least with the bundle Hoyos, a lot of benefit with age and I'd assume (now) with the 2004 Torpedos as well.

Been waiting for a day as nice as this Monday certainly is to smoke this.
Fume D' Amour Lancero...7.5x40.Mine to enjoy,as I am,courtesy of Cardinal (Tim.)
Lighted easily, slight wavy burn line, quickly self corrected quicky to remained sharp until the end.

About six minutes into it the retrohale is near perfect and I'm pretty sure no relight or touch-up will be needed on this slow burning Lancero.
An open draw that yields a lot of good looking blue smoke.

Slow sips and it has taken a goodly amount of time to reach this stage where I'm looking at six inches left to burn on this Nicaraquan hand made beauty from Illusione.

I'm a fairly slow smoker, lit mid afternoon this cigarshows no signs of ending before Sunset.

Once done I can fully understand Tim's saying that the Fume D'Amour is the best cigar he's smoked this year.
My choice in that regard has been the HR by Robiana in any and all the sizes smoked from the brand's Sampler.
The HR's held the top spot for me until now as I've smoked several more of the HR's in the Sublime size.

Now that this Fume D' Amour is finished, after an impressive three hours and eighteen minutes.
I still have the HR ahead,by a whisker as the best/most enjoyable I've smoked this year....however.....that is a mighty short whisker.

Quesdada Reserva Privada and Matilde Renacer are two other's that to date, have impressed a lot.

One final note: Do sip slowly to fully appreciate this flavourful Illusione Fume D' Amour Lancero.

My wife insisted that we have this couple over for dinner, I was VERY much opposed to it. I don't like them, at all. In the end I caved. Well, long story short; her genius husband decided it would be an awesome idea to use the baby wipes that we keep in our downstairs bathroom, for our CHILDREN. It gets better, then he flushes the massive amount of them that he used down the damn toilet.

Needless to say, the idiot clogged up my sewer system. We had f***ing water draining out of our vents in the basement and front of our house...

They ended up getting stuck in the main trap leaving the house and it cost me $212 to have a plumber come and clean them out.

Think of all the cigars and bourbon I could have bought with that money!

Well, I smoked this as they fixed it:

After yard work it's smokin' time while I rehydrate and cool down. Gotta say I'm pretty pleased with a Maduro and will be ordering a few of these along with some Nica Libres next month.

Hi Bob,

I prefer the Cinco Vegas maduro (thicker vitolas) compared to their naturals. I thought the Apocalypse series ("A") was pretty good too.

2008 Hoyo de Monterrey Rothschild with the last coffee of the day (been drinking a lot, perhaps the heat today).

These sticks are quite amazingly improved. Super burn, very smooth, more nuance, absolutely a different and far better smoke than ROTT.

Does CI have these? I'll take a look around the few I haunt and see what I see.

I'm a bit slow. I see now. I'll swap 'em out and give 'em a shot. Can't hurt (much), right? I see they are med-full. Some have put me down for a nap, but I think my tolerance has been built up a bit again.

Thanks!

Up in smoke.Tuesday evening, my last of the old Pepin Garcia made Cubao No.1. Cant recall if this was sold as a Toro or some other name, but certainly a good full sized cigar at 6.5x49 and had that Pepin magic.
Every time Id open the humidor, there it was tempting me,but knowing it was the last one, I'd select something else.
Now it's gone, up in smoke, a fine two hours and twenty-eight minutes of pleasure.

Kinda like smoking an old friend, huh? Except the friend was made to be smoked by one of the best makers on the planet. Sounds like it was a good experience, even if a little sad.

Well the past few few days have been really nice for burning some leaves.

Started out with a Graduation dinner for my co-workers daughter that ended with the wife and I sneaking off afterwards to a wine bar while we still had a babysitter. I was able to enjoy my first Leaf Maduro with excellent company.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/b467/gimpster08/Puff/Snapchat-5168426465854205872.jpg (http://s1046.photobucket.com/user/gimpster08/media/Puff/Snapchat-5168426465854205872.jpg.html)

Then yesterday I ended up supplying my friends and myself with some quality after lunch smokes while we emptied way too many bottles of wine for 8 people.

Hi Bob,

I got the Apocalypse from the Devil Sight a few years ago. Cinco-Vegas was/is (I believe) a private label brand made for Cigars.Com/Cigars International/CBid, etc., possibly by AJ Fernandez (an early venture). I've enjoyed the maduro 50-54 rg best.

Woke this morning with excruciating pain in my knee that was operated on >45 years ago (2 big screws and a bunch of pins later). Don't normally take anything for pain, but Aleeve was in order, not much help.

This was a Thursday night smoke that carried over a little into Friday. Paul Stulac Ghost...6x58. Almost too warm on the front porch, has me wondering how I managed last Summer's heat. Just pulled out a fan, which I likely won't tonight but it's ready to be pressed into action if needed. Just a little Coke while smoking, no Rum.

I know AJ was involved in the Cinco Vegas Triple A. The rest I don't know, but I like the A also....

Hi David,

I'm going off of a memory that could be inaccurate. I thought I read somewhere that AJ made the Cinco-Vegas (all), and I presumed that he was a newer maker when he did with more success following.

2013 Rocky Patel Fusion Toro, with Diet Pepsi, on a summery night complete with bugs.

This should be called the Confusion. Smoking a five pack, three today, one ok, one mediocre and the last, just awful and painful; terrible taste, impossible to smoke, going out on me 4-5 times before I tossed it.

I simply don't get Rocky Patel or his success. I've smoked a lot of them (over time) and they're never better than ok, always inconsistent and absolutely remind me of $2/stick bundle cigars with a lot bigger price tag. Most of mine came from the Devil Sight, perhaps that has something to do with it, but the tobacco is never well aged, the corojo (in the conFusion) a cloying sweet without depth or nuance, and overall I wish I'd never bought any of them. The best has bee a few of the (also inconsistent) Connecticut, but the Pinar del Rio is what that cigar wants to be and it's cheaper (and far more consistent).

I've got to ration these, very, very good cigars. Very much a light Cuban taste. Very firm pack, hair tight draw (but enough smoke), and exceptionally smooth with a lot of nuance and a dash of salt.

I am pretty sure that is what it was. I don't know where I got it from. Actually, I thought I received it from you Jesse, in one of your bombs, but I couldn't locate it in my image catalog. It had a small, handwritten sticker on the cello with a date from 11/2013 in very small, neat, print.

It was very good. A nice balance of sweetness, dark fruit, and some spice.

You could be correct, but I just remembered AJ doing the Triple A. The only Rocky Patel I've ever tried has been the Java, which was done with Drew Estate. Funny you should mention Pinar Del Rio as that's what I'm smoking now. I always see these as different from PDR. This Oscuro Liga #2 is delicious....

Never had an Insidious, but the regular Asylum is very nice to me. What'cha think of that one?...

The prelight was a very natural sweet tobacco. I brought the wrong lighter outside and didn't get a good light. So, I puffed like a train and got off to a bad start. When I calmed down and started sipping, it was pretty good. For less than six bucks at a B&M, I'll give one another try, and hopefully treat it better. Spice halfway through on the retro was kicking. Last half was dusty with a coy sweetness.

Maybe I'll give it a try, but the regular one is pretty dang tasty. If you haven't tried one yet, try a Schizo. For a short filler it's a solid smoke for under $3....

Hi Bob,

Tis Summer all around now, everything in bloom. Nature is amazing.

2009 Royal Jamaican, 7" x 54, with coffee with half and half.

Not sure of this vitola's name and couldn't find being sold anywhere. It would seem that Royal Jamaican went the way of the dodo bird without me knowing. These are from the Hurricane Specials that JR was selling (50 good sticks, no filler, cheap 50-ct humidor for $99).

Cigar was loaded with plume and is smoking to the look, an exceptional stick. Never thought that I'd say that about Royal Jamaican made in the DR. Medium but loaded with flavors, lovely herbal fragrance and top notes and a malty sweetness effortlessly backed by a subtle leather. My best comp would be Miami made La Gloria de Cubana (one of my favorites), but this is better in burn and no construction issues at all. It's likely that this cigar was made in the same plant as the DR incarnation of La Gloria.

Wish I had a 1,000 of these and I like it better than the original Royal Jamaican (from Jamaica).

Best to you and your family for the holiday weekend, thanks.

Pete

Having my favorite cheap stick tonight after dinner.
I've smoked $8-$10 cigars that I don't enjoy as much as this one.

Lined my front deck with tiki torches so I could enjoy this outside without all the bugs. Worked, bit kinda windy and only lasted an hour. Burned way too hot in that wind. Got to watch some lightning in the distance at least.

Hi Dustin,

Was on my deck (exposed) as long as possible. When the bugs started to quit I knew the rain was coming so I retreated to the front porch (retreating to the 'front'? Novel idea).

Had a couple last night including, both with water and ice, muggy muggy night.
2009 Fonseca 1907 Churchill EMS. This stick was as good as these get and that's not much at all.

2009 Fonseca 1907 Toro natural. As these have been, decent, well behaved but nothing that I couldn't have had for less for half the price without the brand name.

Enjoy your Holiday all.

I assume the first requirement for the house had to be the distance to the local B&M. Glad to hear that you found a place. Good luck with signing all the paperwork!...

Way back in the early hours of this day while waiting for the coffee to clear away some of the mist. Jericho Hill .44S that had ragged foot, trimmed that, and it was about 4.75x44 when lit. Bit tight draw at first then, just fine, seemed to last fairly long, and tho additional coffee didn't disperse the mist, which was internal not external, the cigar smoked well. Recall having smoked at least one of these in the past, liking it as well as the LBV.
