Jimmy whats up man! Is that the Jason? Looks light for broadleaf. I was worried these wouldnt be so great in skinnies, would expect blends like the Jason, Frank, Drac to be real throat rippers. Really wanna try the Mummy and Wolf in these though. I enjoyed smoking through a Pudgy box last year, though some were certainly better than others.

Seems like Pete did a good job adjusting the blends accordingly? Would love to hear your feedback on these.

Thanks!

Hi Pete,
First day of Sunshine and blue skies in what feels like a month of rain and more rain.
Rather nice to get in morning smoke without the backgound of dull skies and rain.Even the coffee tasting better.
Cigar was H.Upmann Petit Corona that lasted for an hour and a half,a good one to match the brighter day.
Don't see much other than grass and weeds growing around here, those are certainly doing very well.
Hope your plantings will do well, and soon.
Bob.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

to all you wonderful Moms and please pass that on to the mothers in your life

Seedlings are about fried from not having any sun in over a week but it is a nice morning.

I need to plant some more seeds asap.

I happened to watch the cigar obsession review and he was spot on. The draw was tight. I clipped it three times, about 3/8 of an inch, until I finally got some smoke out of it. Other than that problem, it was a fantastic cigar. Great pronounced cocao flavors that built as I smoked it. Started pretty mild and finished medium with some pepper on the tongue. Pretty complex flavors overall. At $6 it a cigar I will smoke many more times in spite of draw issue.

2006 La Escepcion Balthazar (Toro) Maduro with Diet Pepsi.

These remain exceptional and smoother and better burning than when new. Just what was needed on a difficult and emotional day going to court to probate my son's estate. How I would have loved to have my son stop smoking his cigarettes and give a cigar like this a try, but he wasn't inclined and we never did.

Yesterday was very difficult, my wife's first Mother's Day without her son.

Don't know the cigar, but understand some of the other my friend. My son is a pastor, but after the kids went to bed last deer season, my son asked if I had some of "those" cigars and a splash of McCallan's. I just happened to have a couple of My Father #1 Robustos. Fought back tears damn near the whole time. He didn't get it, but years massage people in different ways brother....

I think so. All the others were really good. This one got hot up to the band pretty fast. Probably a bad roll.

Thanks David :)

Smoking the last two Pioneer Valley Especiales Toro (natural). I hope I have more of these stashed somewhere. The Churchill is a little better but either is a far better smoke, in all regards, than the price point that they live at.

I purchased the La Escepcion's when I was still doing most of my buying from JR. In that period I purchased 16 of their 2008 'Hurricane Deals', 50 good to excellent smokes as well as a cheap but usable 50-ct humidor for $100. There were 5x10-pk in each unit and I found 2 pks (20 sticks) recently. Instead of buying 16 of these units I should have bought 200, not a stinker in the lot, (Royal Jamaican Churchill perhaps my least favorite in the selection).

The La Escepcion Balthazar maduro remain my favorite of the JR private labels, really nice smokes. Somewhere along the way I mentioned the Montague label, a closeout, $40/25, and they were superb; natural even better than maduro. Of course I also bought Jr's Flor de Balony (I kid you not) that were as bad as their description was good. I think Lew Rothman had a big laugh at the expense of the customers who bought these doggies.

Pete, wish i could find some words other than simply to say. Thoughts & prayers sent to you and your wife in this most difficult and trying time.

Thanks Bob,

Over six weeks now, not easier in the least, but more familiar. I went to Pennsylvania with his (28yo) widow, Ashley, to work on probating his small estate. It's like trying to function with no arms. Something gone to never have again, it is the wound that can never heal.

Ashley is, legally, no longer my daughter-in-law but long ago she had become my daughter. My genetic daughter, Elisabeth (5'4") has called Ashley her little sister for years (even though she's > 6'1"). Kaiden, Adam's daughter doesn't know that her dad is dead and we will tell her when it is appropriate (she's 4-1/2). We adopted Adam's cat, Domino, and he's adjusted well and is a good kitty who has decided that he owns me.

I appreciate all the kind words, thoughts and prayers from my BOTL here on CigarBum. I tell my family of your collective kindness.

Regards,

Pete

Dug into my stash and pulled a Nica Libre sent from BlueDevil07. This is very nice, and I know I have been sent a Nica Libre before and liked it, but I'm not certain if it's the same one. Nice and smooth for those dark flavors. I'm wondering if I'm developing a palette or what as I get mild notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Can't say I've picked out flavors in a cigar and have been a bit baffled by the descriptions. Maybe I'm evolving here...

http://i67.tinypic.com/96b75v.jpg

Great smoke! Thanks Ferrell!

Is this the same smoke with a new band?

Check Out Nica Libre Cigars at Cigars International (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/cigars/75423/nica-libre/)

Oh, and, paired with my red plum ale seems fitting. I'll need to brew some more darker styles as I'm about out, though rye whiskey does well too...

*EDIT*

The band is the same and not like the one shown at CI. Hoping it's the same as I'm really digging this one. Two cheaper sticks have really made an impression on me. This one and the Alec Bradley American Classic. They come across being of higher quality than the price suggests.

This Morning. Murcielago Churchill...7x48. Down to the last few of these Don Pepin Garcia smokes.First one smoked in about a month and, there's a big change in the way it smokes, more complexity, flavours. Surprised since these already have several years age on them, then this change-up when all I'm expecting is a decline in flavours or more likely a consistently straightforward smoke. Extremely smooth retrohale. Seems this is one non Cuban that not only ages well, but somehow in a short amount of additional time is smoking so much better. Wish I had a dozen or so boxes of these rather than the sparse handful on hand.

I really wanted to get out today and have a smoke, but my allergies have been kicking my butt for over a week now...

My tastes are all messed up and I know that if I smoke, my face will blow up right now.

I think I'll start with something familiar to test my system, then I've been dying to try the Pilon that Kayla bombed me.

Then perhaps get some sleep, tho it's weird to be even think about sleeping during the hours of darkness.

You must have caught that image with a super fast shutter speed.
What every soggy citizen of N.J. knows full well is that a sunny day in Joisey would any other place be seen as a *Lightning fast flash of Lightning*
Kudos for having captured an image on one of those ever so rare micro seconds when the rain isn't sheeting down.

@jhedrick83 (http://www.cigarbum.com/forum/members/jhedrick83.html), it's still there, just not in such large doses. We are actually a little worried about our son right now. He went to the ER last night, and we found out he has pediatric onset of type 1 diabetes at 9!!!

I am sorry hear that Trent! We recently went through similar when our 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 last November. I understand your fears. I'd be glad to share our experiences so far or be an ear of sympathy to talk to. Hang in there! You can handle this.

Hey Tom,

Know you said " this guy jumps out at me."
"So, as I'm looking through the humidor for that special birthday cigar this guy jumps out at me:"

then a little later:

"Maybe it was the handwritten date on the band that caught my eye,"

A date like that certainly would get and hold your attention.

However,looking at the cigar,band,etc...
you might well have been unaware (having perhaps a bit too much blood in your alchol stream at the time),the cigars whispering:
"Take me,I'm yours, alllll yours, I've waited so long for this moment. Ravish me, Birthday boy...light my fire...c'mon light me."
Understansable that you failed to note the cigar wasn't *that guy...but that GAL.*
She'd been trying to get your attention for a while, picked the right time, and you could have done nothing other than set her aflame.

Slow, late I am...
so tho the wish is belated: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM.

These in natural are a lot better than in EMS but that's not saying much. Age has helped but the weren't much to begin with. Yard gar and no more.

Bud Light Platinum tastes like a Coors from the 1970s but with more metal taste. Should have called it Bud Light Metallica.

Yes I did enjoy it. I will say it didn't strike me a overly strong, I'd say med-full or a hair higher. I read while I was smoking that these were a 2013 release so it's possible that few years could have taken a little of the edge off.

Whatever the case it was a good smoke.

It's in the sixties here (accuweather says 61, back deck thermometer has it higher) but the constant breeze out of the north almost make it to cool for t-shirt and shorts. I need to remember this day when the temp and humidity both hit 90. Luckily it's not as windy as lunch today. We went to my grandsons baby dedication and then a hot dog cookout on New River. Our weather is similar to GWBowman as it is 66 and a 10mph breeze, which here in the shade feels kinda chilly. Maybe I should move my chair into the sunshine!
I am smoking my first Opus X Love Affair and am loving it with a cup of coffee. It is burning very sharp but has developed a small wrapper split above the band. It isn't affecting the burn and hopefully will survive the removing of the band.

Update: the split hung on and I set it down with about an inch of nub. Very satisfying little cigar.

Mid way along with this My Father Limited Edition Corona...5x42. Every time I light one of these find myself wishing Garcia would reissue then in the twenty three count box as he did in the past. Once opened the box of ten all too quickly becomes the box of none, then it's back to looking for more.
Sorry no photo of this one.
But the earlier smoke has an image, and anyway its still Sunday evening for me, hours to go.
Sunday afternoon smoke, late posting as usual I know. Crazy weather while smoking the ciogar on front porch, temp was 75F. but roll on a couple of hours of strong winds...temp felt like very low 60s...read 48F outdoors., Feeling like early March.
The cigar:
My Father Special S...5x50. Courtesy of Cardinal, this Robusto is a Special Event only item, not a regular production smoke.
Is it really special?
If you rate cigars coming from Don Pepin Garcia's My Father factory as amongst the best available, you know the answer.
Could well chose faultless as a one word descriptor for this Special S.
Couldn't ask for better in a Mild to mild/medium smoke. One of the few from DPG in which you may find pepper to be close to nonexistent, 'tis there but darn near unnoticeable.
The Special S burnt perfectly right from the start, flavourful smooth all the way to end as a very wee nub.

Thanks Tim (Cardinal) for another *Special* Smoke.

2011 Fonseca 1907 Toro Natural with Bud Light Platinum.

These in natural are a lot better than in EMS but that's not saying much. Age has helped but the weren't much to begin with. Yard gar and no more.

Bud Light Platinum tastes like a Coors from the 1970s but with more metal taste. Should have called it Bud Light Metallica.

I agree about the purple bottle beer taste. My buddy brought some up to the farm a few weeks ago, and it has a metal twang to it...

Farrell,

You may be right about the origin. Certainly looks the part and the industry is rife with multiple branded sticks. Make 'em once and band 'em twice. Did you have to sign that form before smoking it? :)

I was on the side porch, in the shade. Should have been on the back porch, in the sun. Not as tough as I used to be.
it start out a bit mild but flavors built as I smoked it and became richer and stronger...finishing full. Really tasty. I definitely want to get more. I've got 2 others, the natural and Maduro so looking forward to those too.

This was well over a two hour smoke, one of those that you must slow down and concentrate on, flavours are quite subtle
,but there in this mild smooth...7x40 Cigar.
Would usually smoke one of this size in the evening, but opted for burning it late this afternoon,
figured there might be too much RH for a long duration smoke tonight.

Hello Pete,
May have just seen a light bulb go on.
More than a few times I've smoked something Hoyo de Monterrey and though it might have been better, if.
Now that light bulb moment has me thinking it might not have been my thinking a tweak to the blend....rather a bit of age may've been all those cigars needed.

Providentially you have eschewed (knew I'd someday find a way to use that word, fitting or not) wearing one of your golfing or driving gloves to wear your catchers mitt when the Heisenberg Petite cigar fired your way arrives. Gunther7912 has to have quite the arm and accuracy, which team's he pitch for?
Going to grab a cigar and nother drink, then a re-reading of your aventure on the open road.
Tony, I'd love to have an adventure like that, they've told me that If I behave I may be allowed out of this room with the soft walls.
But to venture outside, unsupervised, alas that must remain but a dream just as the drink and cigar are.

So happy to have found this PWI thread.
