Though I was a heavy smoker for over 20 years (quit about 5 years ago) I've found that I don't tolerate higher nicotine levels. Quite frankly I don't know that I care much about the nicotine, but don't necessarily want a light flavored cigar either.

My first few real cigars actually came from that forbidden place as my friend's BIL was in the coast guards and stationed nearby who brought them back. On that note SWMBO went to a humidor and bought me an Avo classic, which I received quite well. However the cost for a box exceeds my $100 to my door limit.

Sooooo... I'm wanting something along those lines that <$100 shipped will make me as happy. I've seen the CAO samplers that come with Avo's, but I read several responses in which fellows from the other forum didn't care much for them.

I bought a few cheap samplers that were hit or miss, but found they didn't sell them in any other way, which put me at a loss as I'll not buy that sampler again.

Suggestions?

I suppose I should add that I'd like to try more flavorful cigars that aren't nicotine-laden at the same time. I don't smoke more than 3-4 a month with it being more like 1-2 a month as the norm. Headaches aren't cool, but flavor is, and some of the "darker" flavors sound appealing (love various stouts and porters).

I tend to favor med to med full Nicaraguans and anything with a Corojo wrapper. Some of my favorites right at or below $100/box are:

Flor de las Antillas Robusto (107)
Camacho Corojo Robusto (97)
Torano Exodus 1959 50 Years Robusto (113)
La Perla Habana Black Pearl Morado Robusto (56)
Flor de Oliva Corojo (51)

Herrera Esteli, I prefer the lonsdale. Forbidden island profile but with more depth. Med, med-full.

If you do get too much nicotine a spoonful or two of sugar will usually solve the problem.

Flor de las Antillas Robusto are $119 + shipping from CI. Where are you pricing from Indy?

2 bills are more than I want to lay down on a box.

Villiger La Libertad is a very nice cigar that is right in your price range. CI is selling them in bundles of 20 for less than $70. Good flavor but not too strong.

+1 on the La Libertad - surprisingly good. On cbid for under $30 sometimes. You can also get a box of Fuente Hemingway Short Storys for around $120.

Same place for Undercrown's by the box under a hundy. Gotta use the promo code "drew" (I think).

Also, grab a bundle of Bahia Maduros (red band) for a cheap rich flavored light-medium nic stick. Around $40

I myself lean towards the lower priced sticks,mild-med flavor.I think if you tried the Felipe Dominicas or Dark Shark off CI you would be pleased, and both are only around a buck a stick in bundles. If you dont like em there good to give to the mooch next door.

The FdlA and Torano 50 Years are two of my chart-toppers. If those other 3 you listed compare favorably then I really need to try them. Thanks for the list.

I enjoy Diesel cigars and they are very reasonably priced.

I just checked the Unlimited and Unlimited maduro because I have a CI catalogue handy and they are well under the $100 per box price.

However, I certainly wouldn't get a box based solely on our recommendations. I love Diesel but you may not. Since your budget right now is one hundred, I would go to cigarplace.biz and spend the entire budget on singles. Make a few notes on each cigar about what you liked and didn't like if that helps. Then when it comes time to buy again you'll know what you would like a box of and what to avoid.

Avo classics are medium-bodied, I would say. I find The Griffin's to be similar, and the Oliva Serie O, too.
There's also a good Oliva sampler on cigarbid that may suit your taste. http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot/1947386/Oliva-Variety-Sampler-Box-of-6/ I get The Griffin's on there for about $10-$13 a 5-pack, and Serie O's in the $13-$15 range. All well within your <$100/box. But don't buy a box at first. Try 'em out with singles or 5er's. Good luck. :)
