View Full Version : How important is draw to you?

While smoking a stick this afternoon I got to thinking how important the draw of a cigar is to me. If I have a loose or a tight draw I'm more likely to give up on a stick than one that has a perfect draw but isn't in my flavor profile. How about you guys?

It matters somewhat to me. I hate when it is too tight, if it feels like I'm working hard to smoke it, I'll usually pitch it. That kind of kills the relaxation aspect for me. Otherwise, I try to adjust how I draw based on the resistance it gives me.

A good draw won't make a bad cigar better, but a bad draw can ruin a good cigar. I think this is more true of a too-tight draw than a loose one.

I agree completely. A tight draw kills the stick for me. Feels like a constant struggle to keep it going.

Tis so true___!
If it isn't right I will fix it before proceeding.
I check for draw before lighting, so if it is tight, I will go at it with a tool before lighting.

A loose draw does make a case for cutting conservatively and checking the draw before cutting further.
Sometimes I will fix a slightly tight draw by doing an additional "V" cut perpendicular to the first one.

Best wishes, Dafiddla

Only bothered by a tight draw. If the draw is loose, I'll just puff lightly!

too tight of a draw is a killer for me, not into sucking golf balls through a straw. I will pitch it a grab another, no point in paying for a bad experience. When I fire up, I usually bring my punch and cutter. I punch first and draw test and taste, if good I fire up. If the draw is slightly snug for preference I will cut it. It is rare that I come across a really plugged stick as I keep my stash at 63-65% and most sit for about 6 months before getting lit, that has greatly reduced the amount of snug sticks that I come across.

It's almost as important as quality toilet paper.

Too loose is manageable. Too tight I have very little tolerance for and will usually toss the stick.

Too loose often means less enjoyable.
Too tight can range from off putting to put it out.

I'm with the majority that hates it being too tight.

I enjoy a fairly loose draw.

I'm with the majority on this one, too tight is a no go and ruins the experience for me, makes it too much like work and not like the relaxation it should be.

Too tight is a real...drag...heh heh. Actually, since I discovered that 62-65% relative humidity works best for me, I really haven't had a problem with a tight draw. I do have a Draw Poker, and when I kept the sticks wetter, I found that I used it pretty frequently. Haven't used it in quite some time. Obviously, in my mind, problems with draw, weird burning, etc, is relative to the humidity the ceegars are kept in, and I've solved a lotta problems by keeping them drier, and haven't created any problems that I'm aware of.

Like others, I don't know if there is such a thang as too loose of a draw.

Ugh, a too tight draw is the worst! It's all fine and dandy when you can just put out the cigar, but if you are required to review the stick and smoke it all the way through... it ends up with a sore jaw!

Hate a tight draw. Don't mind if it's a little loose, far better than too tight!

If it's loose it's not as big a deal...I can just sip it, but a tight draw ruins a potentially good cigar.

I've had so many tight draws in the past, that I had to invest in a draw tool made by Forrest. I love the thing, I just wish my aim was more true. I have almost ruined a few cigars by punching a hole straight through the side.

Tight draw, no. Loose draw is fine by me, easier to puff. I like the sort of loose draw that Padrons have.

We're missing one option here.
Along with or rather, between, Loose Draw and Tight draw...
We should have "Open Draw" to denote the cigars that draw well, and are neither too loose nor too tight.

I've put out a few for being too tight of a draw, but also don't like one too loose. I've found most tight draw cigars I've had gently rolling it in the fingers loosens it up enough to get through it. I've yet to find a trick to fix one too loose though.

Yup them Monicas are known to be loose and to trick...doubt there is fix, other than avoiding them.
