View Full Version : What's your storage method

Just thought it might be interesting to see how everyone stores their sticks. So, what is your primary storage method?

Good topic, I started with a couple bail lid jars (which I still use to segregate infused sticks) and jumped right into the wineador.

Wineador for a few boxes and the bulk of my loose cigars. I like the look and easy access, plus I'm in there enough that I know exactly where everything is without having to dig. It holds humidity great with a couple pounds of kitty litter - I think I spritz the crystals about 4 times a year or so.

I've got a big cooler for the rest, which is almost all boxes. It doesn't get opened as often, and in the last year I've only had to water it probably twice. Most of what's in there is laid down for aging.

I've completely emptied my original wooden humidor. Although my last purchase took some major tetris-ing to fit in the cooler, so I guess I have backup. I'd have to condition it again though.

Can't vote twice...so I use a wineador primarily but still have a large coolidor that I have been slowly trying to empty. For me temperature control is a necessity so the wineador is the best choice

I have one nice 300 count humi I use for aging Fuentes and storing my LPs in the upper deck. Then Ive got a tupperdor for loose CCs, another for Tatuaje, and another for random singles. I'm fortunate my bedroom holds a steady RH of 62-64 so it sort of serves as a walk in for my box purchases lol. Im thinking of investing in a cabinet though to kind of consolidate and make things look nicer.

I built my own humi. Right now it has about 20 full boxes and all three drawers are full with about 100 sticks per drawer. Not including the 150 ct I have at office. Went to a event yesterday and picked up about 100 more cigars. Time to get winesdor set up

I have three wooden desktop humidors and an aluminum bottle that Fonseca shipped cigars in in the 20s and 30s. Use boveda in all of them, and they seem to hold humidity well. The bottle is surprisingly airtight. It also can double as a drink shaker.

Several tupperdors for me. With the recent move and everything else going on the past year they just work best for stable humidity. One holds bombs / passes, one holds assorted singles, and the largest holds 90 or so cheapies and my handful of large rg sticks. I have a spare large one as well, should I ever need the overflow.

Eventually I want to convert a spare room to a smoking lounge and plan to put something larger in there. Might be coolers, might be a custom cabinet, not really sure yet.

I just realized I voted but never explained my vote. I use an old gun cabinet I got off craigslist for primary storage. I refinished the exterior and lined it with Spanish Cedar. I did it a few years ago when I was mostly buying 5 packs and singles. Now my collection is mostly boxes and I wish I had laid it out a bit differently (and that it was bigger). I have an overflow cooler that I use as well. I love the look of my wooden humidor but I love how well the cooler seals and how little maintenance it is. I dream of building a bigger cabinet than what I have now so everyone can live happily together. Probably with a layer of moisture barrier sandwiched between the SC and the cabinet itself.

I picked that I use them all. I have a wineador that needs my motivation to build shelves for it, so that I can hopefully fit all of my private stash in there, and the 100ct humi that sits on top of it, and the 20 ct humi that sits on top of THAT with infused. Oh, I also have my travel tupperdor that I always keep stocked with variety, and then there's the two overflow coolers that are all the incoming/outgoing cigars. Some of that is still part of the private stash as well, that hasn't been managed into the wineador yet - because I'm lazy about making shelves. So I use all of the above, pretty much all of the time.

HCM beads (Aka Shilala beads). They worked ok in another humidor but I liked the Heartfelt better and I hated to just not make use of them, so they stay in there with the heartfelt tubes. The cooler is rock steady in terms of RH.

I went with the traditional wood humidor for a while but it was a cheap glasstop model that wouldn't hold RH worth a crap. So I got tired of fooling with it and switched to the tupperdor. It's not that big and a medium sized Heartfelt tube keeps it between 63% and 65% all the time.

It aint pretty, but I don't have that many sticks either. I only have a dozen or so on hand most of the time. I hope you guys realize that every time I log on and look at your pictures I commit the sin of covetousness. You all are a terrible influence.

And because they're in the vicinity, my rolling supplies and implements:

The leaves get a little dried out in the plastic bags, so I always have to rehydrate before rolling or blending/pressing. I should figure out a better way to store them. I could probably put some big tupperdors in the filing cabinet drawers.

Anyway, more than you asked for, but there it is, Bruck's Tobacco Library :)

What's your estimate on the number of cigars that leaf will turn into? Say in a toro on average.

Man, I want to try that someday. Too many hobbies, not enough time.

What's your estimate on the number of cigars that leaf will turn into? Say in a toro on average.

Man, I want to try that someday. Too many hobbies, not enough time.

Not as many as you'd think, really. I did a calculation the other day and found that I get on the average about 17 or 18 cigars per pound of tobacco. Now mind you, that's a broad average, as there are 3 main categories of leaf - wrapper, binder, and filler - and you use varying quantities of each. Also, rolling produces a lot of scrap, which I don't recycle into cigars.

Also, most of the leaves in my library are more suited to pipe tobacco production, which is also where I recycle my scrap into. For pipe tobacco I usually make little bricks of pressed flake.

So to answer your question, I've only got a few pounds of cigar tobacco on hand, so approx. 50 to 60 cigars could be extruded from current stocks. But for making bricks of flake (4"x4"x0.5-0.75"), I could only guess, but probably on the order of a couple dozen.

...which is why I don't buy a lot of cigars or finished tobacco. Who am I trying to kid? Yes I do :)

Can't vote twice...so I use a wineador primarily but still have a large coolidor that I have been slowly trying to empty. For me temperature control is a necessity so the wineador is the best choiceYeah, that might be argued to be flaw in the polling, since so many of us are "hybrids".

I'm a bit surprised that a traditional is as far behind as it is. I figured most people would be wine/coolerdor users for primary storage, but not buy a 4-1 margin. I think the reason is that most of us are not "traditional" cigar storers. We tend to have a lot more than your usual B&M purchasers, who more often than not have one, small, less than half-full wooden humidor.

Primary storage is a NewAir cc-280E wineador. I pretty much use that for my CC's and it's almost full. I also run two tupperdors for my NC's. And in the past few weeks I setup a coolidor for longer term storage of CC boxes I'm going to lay down to sleep. After three sentences you're so tired you have to lay down to sleep, lol!

I managed with one Edgestar 28 for about a year. It's packed full and I'm pretty deft at cigar tetrus. Alas, mostly due to the pounding you guys laid on me when we launched the board, I've been forced to creep back into my largest wooden humidor. Not such a bad problem to have.

The Edgestar is outfitted with 6 Waxingmoon drawers, made from SC and Virginia Wormy Chestnut. Nice touch on Ed's side, since he knows I'm a proud Virginian. :D All the drawers are packed, as I said, and I have four boxes of CC laying on top of the top drawer. I use Bovedas in there to save space.

The big wooden humi is a RyJ Limited Edition Contemporary Model 11, which is Mohagany and dark stained quilted maple. It's got three levels with two shelves and holds in the neighborhood of 250 sticks. I run HF beads in that guy.
