Ok!
We've seen this question on the dark side considering that they generally smoke better with some age. And I've seen the difference that a nice rest can make with some NC's in my 2 years of storing cigars. And we see the response to Old Smokey thread about what NC's people are aging (or at least trying to)?

What NC's do you enjoy most with only acclimation to your preferred rH or even ROTT (regularly)?

I can't say that I've done it on a regular basis with any stick in particular because of trades, bombs and building a stash, so a lot of my stash gets a decent nap or had one prior to me getting them.

Is there anything you buy (besides singles) that gets burned pretty much right away?

Just about anything from a B&M, as the ones I go to usually keep the walk-in right. Acclimated? LFD, LGC, CAO, you name it. I have a hard time exercising restraint. I just rearranged the fridgedor, though, and the new layout puts anything I have 2+ of in the back for a nap. How long? Idk, hopefully a year, realistically probably 4-6 mos from now I will attack the sleeping ones

I never smoke them ROTT. I honestly don't light up anything new I buy until it has rested for several months. Just one of my many odd habits I guess. I basically stopped buying NC's this year so practically everything now has, at the very minimum, 12 months on them. I have found it interesting to see how stuff like Padron, Tats and LP are smoking after a year of rest since a lot of people say they are better fresh. I can't say they are better or worse... just different.

I have a poor palate, if I don't let them rest and acclimate they get bitter at some point. That doesn't mean it is a requirement to always let them rest, sometimes it has me intrigued enough to fire it up ROTT. I only smoke maybe 3 cigars a week and it seems I am buying them faster than that, especially recently. Recently smoked ROTT have been Curivari BV Praline and it smoked great until it got bitter with 2" left. Did a flaming purge and got another 5 minute of enjoyment until it got bitter again. Same with a recent box of LC 46, but I think these need more down time than the Praline. Maybe I have a better palate than I give credit for. Nah!

The rumor is that Ligas are better without age.
Acclimate and smoke.

I had a FFP with close to 2 years on it and it was fabulous. I have had many LP's with a year on them and all were still great. Intensity was more subdued but also more refined...at least to me. I guess it really comes down to your palette.

If I remember correctly, I heard that LP's are good fresh or with as much as 2 yrs, nothing more or they lose their zest!

Ligas Viva Republica and Tats usually get a short nap and than get some fire put to em. its hard for my cigars to not get some kind of nap before being fired up since i buy more than i smoke usually. its not intentional but just happens but i do have cigars that are off limits on purpose for some age.

I find a lot of CAO's are better fairly fresh. On the other side, I find anything from Oliva loves a good nap.

I have yet to have enough control to age any Fuente for more than a few months....

I'm pretty much exclusively buying CC's now, but I let everything rest about a month before I'll smoke it with few exceptions. All my NC's, have been resting a minimum of 3-4 months at this point. Only exception is if I buy something in a B&M while away (I bought a few Tat Black Labels that I smoked that same week while visiting FL).

Bear in mind that virtually ALL NC's are intended to be smoked ROTT. As far as "aging" goes, that means it really comes down to nothing but personal preference. Stronger cigars will become weaker, if perhaps better "married", both in terms of strength as well as flavor and body. What that means is, if you prefer a stronger, more full-bodied smoke, aging NC's isn't for you.

As stated above, Liga's, as well as Padrons are not for aging, but are better enjoyed "fresh". If I had a nickle for every time I've changed my tune on aging Opus X, hell, I could afford a box of Forbiddens!

I think this is the story for many of us...we tend to buy more than we smoke so there is a lot of unintentional aging. My major issue is I buy a lot of high end stuff that I never can get myself to fire up for the average monday evening smoke and then I end up sitting on all these premiums that I am waiting for a "special occasion" to smoke. Next thing I know they have 2-3 years on them and I wonder if they are now past their prime

I smoked an Anejo No. 50 that I got in a blind sampler here on the bum. It had 3-4 years on it and I will say it was the absolute best cigar I've ever smoked.
Don't know what they're like ROTT but I know what they're like with a few years on them. Wow.

I'd say 90% of the cigars I smoke are good to go once they get acclimated. Exceptions mainly being new releases or LEs. A lot of times they're way too fresh to really enjoy for a few months IMO because they've kind of been rushed out to retailers and on to customers. The first out of the box ends up being a dog rocket compared to the last 5er or so.
Oddly though I don't think Tats smoke well until they've had a little longer than most sticks after getting acclimated. Something about them is still rough around the edges but after about 2 months they get back in their groove.

Thank you kind Sir for gracing us with your presence!
I miss your input. I've learned a lot from you in the past two years. Thx for making us Bums!
Yes, I remember reading a post where most NC's are "aged" before they get to us. So I completely understand your statement.

Especially now that it soon starts getting COLD!
I'm of the school of buying what you like & smoking them. I don't sit on much except the HTF/LE & stuff I want to get more of before I smoke what I have.

Añjeos are some of the few NC's that I hear age well & are worth sitting on.

I find that some of the "less expensive" NC blends rest/age & get "better"! Bueso Genesis is a prime example. And I'm not into the "yard gars."

I can't smoke anything ROTT anymore. Obviously I had to when starting out but I ran into too many that were awful or mediocre that I liked after resting.

To me, now that I have around 400 cigars, resting has no downsides. I've never smoked something and thought "Wow that was better ROTT!"

Some,at least, of the Don Pepin Garcia/My Father cigars certainly do well with some age/rest on them.
Tho I don't age age or rest anything, don't have time for that.
Boxes of Pepins/My Fathers I've gotten with two-four years age on them all smoked really nice.

I totally agree with Upstatemax. CAO's are notoriously great to smoke fresh after buying them.
