Alright looking for a recommendation from the pros here. I only dabble in the pipe here and there during the fair weather months of the year but really get into it for the cold months when a bowl is about the amount of time I can last outside.

I have 6 larger mason jars to fill up for this winter.
I'm curious what 6 tins I should by.
Haven't tried a lot but I know aromatics aren't for me.

What 6 tins would you buy for $50 or less?

Well what have you tried and liked? Or is non-aro your only guideline?

If I were strictly buying 6 tins I would go:

Hearth & Home 10 to Midnight - $7.49
Hearth & Home AJ's Vaper - $7.49
Orlik Golden Sliced - $6.79
SG St. James Flake - $9.29
SG Full Virginia Flake - $9.29
Dunhill Nightcap - $9.15

Total - $50.32
That's prices from P&C

Those tobaccos are all non aromatics and cover the spectrum nicely from mild to full flavored.
They are all VA, Vaper or English blends but that's pretty much all I smoke. YMMV.

However I will say since you are filling large jars, do not totally discount bulk tobacco. You can several of the ones I listed in bulk and get more baccy for the $.
Also, Peter Stokkebye is still on sale for $1.75 per ounce at P&C if you buy 4 ounces of the same stuff. Four ounces for $7 is a helluva deal.
If you get any of that I'd recommend the Luxury Bullseye Flake. It's a nice Vaper with a little unflavored Cavendish.

I'm with you on the aromatics. There are a couple I like, but they're few and far between.

Well don't call me a pro or anything but here's what I'd get... IDK the retail price on these but it's easy to look it up.
(Disclamer: My favorites and recommendations might change by tomorrow)

Dunhill Nightcap
Dunhill Early Morning Pipe
MacBaren HH Old Dark Fired
Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky
Escudo
Sam Gawith Full Virginia Flake

Sam Gawith Navy Flake is really good too but I've already listed 2 lat blends so sub that one for a Dunhill of you want
Dan, SVHD and Drew Estate, 7th Ave Blonde are a couple of good aros if you change your mind and want to try a decent one.

I just want to add that if you are buying tins, you don't need the jars. (Except for after you open it to start smoking)
If you want to do up some jars, buy bulk.

Bulks to jar:
Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake
Dunhill Nightcap
Mac Baren Old Dark Fired ready rubbed
Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake
An aro that sounds good to you. I like H&H Vermont Meat Candy.

I will add (these are some of my favorites)

G. L. Pease - Gaslight
Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding
Dunhill Nightcap

+1 on considering bulk vs. tins - usually you get more for your money. All of the commercial blends I would recommend have already been mentioned so I won't repeat.

I will say this though - the "slope" of pipe smoking and tobacco procurement is much slipperier (is that a word?) than that of cigars :)

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I really don't wanna go bulk until a tin doesnt last long. I still have a cpl tins I havent tried from two years ago so Im gonna go slower than faster down this slope. I hope

Don't know if that's a word or not, but it's sure enough a true statement. My poor humidor never has more than a few sticks in it anymore.
Every time I make an online purchase it's pipe tobacco.

Well, those couple of tins you have should be good now for sure.

If they're Virginias or Virginia/Periques they will be very good after two years.

Unless they're full of goopy, cavendish aromatics. Those won't be good even after a million years.

No shame in buying bulk d00d. You can still buy a 2 oz portion in bulk. Mason jars seal better than tins anyhow in the event you don't get to it. I like those squatty 8 oz jars; easy to reach the tobakky, about like digging around in a tin.
