Alright Ladies and Gents, as many of you know there was a Secret Santa event at the old place. The last year we had an influx of new members so I was able to start the Noob Secret Santa as well. Figured I'd get the feelers out early since we all know schedules get crazy during the holidays. This post is to try and determine if it's worth doing a Noob SS here or if we should just concentrate on the normal SS.
For those who don't know how it worked. During Secret Santa members were randomly given a "kid" Plenty of time to research their likes/dislikes based on how they post here. Once the ship date hits the Santas absolutely obliterate the kids with Cigars, Booze, Coffee, Candy, Food, WHATEVER! It's your chance to get creative!
The only difference in the NOOB SS is that newer members are given FTBs and FTBs are given newer members. This way it kind of favors the Noob (similar to the Noob Sampler Trade) and they usually get sticks that they might be afraid to drop the $ on or stuff that is not readily available to them.
I will allow multiple picks in the poll for those who want to answer honestly but really like the last option as well =D Mods I would really like your input on this one!

Glad to see that as of my posting no one had chosen that ridiculous last option!
And I just realized I didn't click all the options I wanted to. Stupid poll with multiple places to fill in answers. This poll is not legit!

Without newbs we will have no growth and eventually the Bum will fail. They are the life blood for us. I want to bomb the crap out of a newb. SS is a good idea.

Agree however as you can see from the results thus far, it doesn't seem like too many of them are active

I love secret santa. I did 3 last year and went all out! I handed out 200 cigars. Since p*** is gone maybe you should start a thread of what SS looks like so the newbs know what they are getting into and what to be sending

We normally see a rush of new blood in the fall / winter. I thought that was half of the reason for the Noob SS last year? They didn't meet the time and trade requirements for the normal SS.
Those requirements are not something we have really seen much here on the bum. So maybe it's not needed?
We could always just do it anyway.

i think that is the biggest thing but as fall comes and the summer rush slows down we will probably going to gain some n00bs hopfully. Hardheaded i think the reason the requirements have been waved so much on bum is because we all know each other from our original home but since we are now estiblished here i think in up coming events that may change since we have trader feedback now.

Yes. Completely an Insane hit. I just want people to see that Secret Santa is a huge deal and a lot of people hit hard

Yeah Last year you had to sign up as Noob or Vet. Noobs Bombed Vets and Vets Bombed Noobs. Really only had 1 that got a little sketchy for a bit I believe but he still came through. I'll see how it shakes out come fall. I don't mind running both as there's really not that much work involved.

From my experience at the other site where most of us Bums originated, we take care of the Noobs and expect nothing in return!
So if at the beginning of the SS, it's clearly explained what's expected of the noob, everyone should be all right.

I consider myself a noob with just under a year and think a noob SS would be a great thing, that said me being across the border wouldn't expect anyone to tackle the shipping expense so my vote just went for the last choice

Having only been smoking cigars regularly since January, even at my age I'm a n00b. I signed on here because it seemed like a friendly, and more importantly, very informative site. It's not that I'm shy, but I don't post alot because all my questions are answered somewhere on the board. The generosity you all show here is tremendous. As far as my participation in something like this, I just don't feel confident enough in my abilities to pick adequate sticks to justify a fair trade. I know that doesn't really matter, but that's just the way I feel. I know what I like, and what I'm waiting to try. I just don't feel comfortable trying to determine what somebody else likes. I'm here to learn. Keep up the good work. This is one of the friendliest sites (on any subject) that I have had the privilege of being a member.

I'll run it just trying to see if we need to do 1 for just noobs 1 one for Vets, or combine them all into 1. There will be a sign up in the events section. Last year it was a last minute thing and we started Sign ups late November with a ship date of the Friday before Christmas I believe. I'd like to get started a little earlier this year. I want to give people more time to plan, and buy things if need be. I'd also like to bump the ship date up a little so all packs are delivered before the mad rush for USPS/UPS. I know a couple of packs got beat up pretty bad last year because of the USPS holiday rush. Maybe do sign ups the First week of November with a ship date during the 2nd week of Dec.

Not talking about the smoking end of it brother. Talking about the fact that usually after a year in a lot of people have started feeling their way through the higher end sticks. If you do a Noob SS the FTBs would know not to expect an Opus, Behike, Tat Monster, and bottle of Macallen. If you're in a normal SS and everyone is sending around stuff like that but you have one Newer Member/smoker they are not going to be able to give away that kind of stuff because it simply won't be in their stash. Although we are all happy with anything we get and most enjoy the bombing part more then getting bombed...It can make the person sending it feel kind of awkward. Even the Noobs tossed out some awesome bombs last year, I had a member PM me a week before the ship date saying he felt like his pack was inadequate and asked if I could sell him a few higher end sticks to put in his pack. Don't want to have that issue again, I felt horrible for him.

As much as you love blowing people up anyway the SS would be right up your alley.
The earlier dates would be a good thing. Gives us a bit more time to shop for those sticks we might not normally have. Way too many options to always have a bit of everything.

one list might work better, an everyone gets a shot at each other..this is a enjoy thing..nothin expected..Im easy 32' bass boat with dancin floor an girly bar on the bow.

Eligibility to participate: You need to be a new member of less than 2 months (from the final sign up date), or a Friendly Trading Puffer. You must have completed the Noob Sampler Trade, and have at least one positive Trader Feedback (no negative). There is a great amount of trust in a thread like this. Negative feedback will be left for individuals who do not follow through with their end of the bargain...
im sure jimmy would do something along the same lines with a minimum $ amount, trader feedback needed, be so new, remain active on the forum so on

Extra time would be good for any non US member that join into it too to help with border crossing times. Not sure I'll be in in due to finances but for any other international BOTL'S that want in.
