I'm officially going to be an old bastard. On July 30, I'll be 50-years old. And I'm not going to do the usual Dewer's and Diesel (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Thinking of picking up a good bottle of single-malt and a super-premium stick to celebrate. Wondering if you guys could provide any recommendations. Maybe I'll try something that I haven't before.
So you kind of know my taste, my "go to" single-malts are Ardbeg 10, Laphroig 10, and Highland Park 12. In terms of cigars, I like everything and I haven't tried much of the ultra-premium stuff. Had an LP9 and it was good but I thought, overrated. I'm thinking full-bodied with some kick for the B-day smoke.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Premium of Ultra Premium smoke, I recommend GOF Carlito, Diamond Crown Julius Ceaser or Padron 50th.
Premium scotch, Johnny Walker Blue, Johnny Walker Platinum or Lagvulain (sp?).

Ditto the Johnnie Walker Blue. A high price for sure but I've never had anything like it!
For a cigar I'd consider an Ave Maria Reconquista. It's not uber expensive and is a great smoke. A spicy and sweet cigar that is phenomenal.
Another solid choice is Padron 1926 natural. Would go great with a scotch.

Can't help with the scotch, but I like Brimy recommendation of a God of Fire Carlito. I have only smoked one, but was truly a memorable cigar.
Happy Birthday and 50 isn't old sonny.

Just had some Macallan 12 the other day, it had been a while but I forgot how good it is! Blended scotch can be really good, but for a special occasion don't cheat yourself out of a good high-end single malt [emoji16]

If you like your scotch to have some body to it, I would skip the JW Blue.
Macallan 18 and Highland Park 18 are always delicious in my book. No matter the price, Lagavulin 16 is my personal favorite.
As for the cigar, I'll let others chime in as I have not indulged in too many ultra premium cigars.

My b-day is coming up as well. I'll be 35 this week.
My choice is a Liga Privada T52. I've never had one, so I don't know if it's a good choice or not.
If you're picking up something I'd suggest a Davidoff Nicaragua. One of my favorites so far.
You can't go wrong with Padron. Pick one and sit back with a nice glass of scotch. I'd second Highland Park 18. Another recommendation would be Lagavulin 12 or Ardbeg Uigeadail.

If you like highland scotch my recommendation would be McCallan. I've had the 10 year fine oak all the way to the 21 year and have not been disappointed. There is something about a scotch that is old enough to order its own scotch....
And for a premium cigar I don't think you can go wrong with an Aņejo or high end Padron.
BTW, it's my birthday at the end of the week also. Happy birthday!!

New to cigars so can't offer too much help there but I can attest that Lagavulin 16 year is amazing IMO, have a bottle of it at the house now. It offers a ton of flavor and a generous helping of smoky peat.

High-end Padron for me because they don't have to be aged. Lagavulin 16 or Glenmorangie Nector D'or have both come highly recommended for pairing. I'd go for the Laga 16 though with a Padron...

If you like the peaty Lafroig 10, a nice paring with that is the AJ Fernandez Spectre which has some latakia tobacco in it for a nice Smokey flavor.
For the 50th though, I go with a Diamond Crown Maximus #10 and a nice scotch like the JW Blue or the Gold if you can find it. Another great smoke is the Ashton ESG...

A Padron 50th Anniv Maduro with a dram of Auchentoshan 12 Year Old is what I had on my 50th.

A Padron Family Reserve 50, or even better the Padron 50 Anniversary Natural (if you can find one) would be rather fitting. You won't be disappointed. I can guarantee you that.

Since you're a fan of Highland Park 12 year, I see no reason not to splurge for the 18yr. It's absolutely magnificent scotch!
As far as smokes go, I think most of us have got those few sticks they'd like to try, but just haven't. I'd pick up anything you've had your eyeball on, but haven't pulled the trigger on yet.
Happy early birthday!

Dalmore Cigar Malt and a Fuente Anejo. I haven't actually had that Dalmore but love the ones I have tried, and the description sounds amazing. I like peaty whiskies too, but I find they tend to overpower the subtleties of good cigars.
Before dinner I'd have a Davidoff and a Glenmorangie.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions, guys! I've tried a few of the suggested Scotches but never the Highland Park 18. So I'm leaning towards that one since I'm already a big fan of the 12.
I don't think I've tried a single one of the cigars you guys have suggested and I'd like to try all of them. I was already considering a high-end Padron, since I've always been tempted by those. So, 1926 or 1964 if I go that route? Davidoff are tempting too.

Happy Birthday Shaun!
I wouldn't be much hep on the scotch and stogie as my tastes tend to run a bit pedestrian. My 50th was a couple years ago and we celebrated with big porterhouse steaks. Can't remember what I smoked though :)

So, 1926 or 1964 if I go that route?
Either would go with the scotches mentioned. The 26 is more flavour and stronger if I remember correctly...

Decided to spring for this. Now I just need to choose which one to smoke on my actual birthday.

I would do the monster 1926 (it is 1926, right?).
When I first looked at this post, I was going to say padron 1926, (or 80th or 45th) and lagavulin.
I just had my 40th in May and wish I had sprung for the lagavulin, but stuck with my go to laphroig.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions, guys! I've tried a few of the suggested Scotches but never the Highland Park 18. So I'm leaning towards that one since I'm already a big fan of the 12.
Have you tried the OBAN 18 yet? It's about the same in price and just as good, but to me a bit fresher and cleaner over the HP 18.
Happy B-day that reminds me I need to find something for my 45th this year!
