Took me all of a few seconds to spend my Fathers day gift cards on these Lol.http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm163/6ten/61maJpA8oDL._SL1500__zpsc4oqcmlc.jpg (http://s296.photobucket.com/user/6ten/media/61maJpA8oDL._SL1500__zpsc4oqcmlc.jpg.html)http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm163/6ten/_1_zpsgaueb3ap.jpg (http://s296.photobucket.com/user/6ten/media/_1_zpsgaueb3ap.jpg.html)

I've read up on cleaning out the plastic smell and have a plan for that. And grabbed the fan for extra circulation after reading about humidity pockets or something.

For now my plan consists of using 69% or lower (if needed) Boveda, cedar trays and a digital hygrometer. This will be mainly used for boxes.

So, looking for any advice you Coolerdor Veterans have to offer. How often do you try to open them? Do you rotate boxes? Do you wrap boxes (I know this is a whole other can of worms but if yes with what)?

Thanks.

Read guys used them to circulate air and so mine is a little fancier than yours. This project is all your fault btw, that little golf cigars flavors were the last straw. Made me wonder if you were onto something.

If I was you I would use Silca kitty litter in your cooler. Its cheap and works as a 2 way humidifier to keep everything around 65rh. The fan should help circulate but I would still move mine around monthly or so.

I haven't heard of wrapping boxes, and I doubt the fan is really necessary. But do what you wish.

I did this when I wanted to use a cooler:

Cedar trays unnecessary, especially if you're storing boxes. I was storing singles and just using boxes, haha

Then I decided to get fancy, and lost a TON of cooler space but added a bit of room-space and cool-factor by going vertical

at no point did I use anything for circulation. I also open all my coolers and wineador and humis more than I should, multiple times a week, so there's that too. But even if you don't, I'm pretty sure popping the top once a month is plenty enough, esp. if you're going for long-term storage and not constantly adding/removing things.

Overall - coolers are EASY. Do what you want and don't totally mess it up, and it should work just fine.

Subscribing to this thread. Thinking about setting one up too as I have a few boxes that will be on order soon.

Coolers are excellent inexpensive storage. I bought a 70 qt and thought I would have a hard time filliing it. Let's just say I was wrong.

I use about 1.5# of Heartfelt beads and have to recharge about every 3 months and rotate things around then. I open it for air exchange on average of twice a month, not that it's necessary, its usually to grab a cigar. I like Bovedas and use them in my humidor and tupperdor. But for something the size of a cooler, beads or kitty litter is a better option IMO.

Update: all up and running going on week two with Boveda 69's lining the bottom edge (added more after the pic, so about twenty total) and 4 small Xikar gel jars with the Xikar brand PG Juice in them (I already had this stuff and have had good luck in my humidors with them). Last I checked I got readings of 65% bottom corner, 64% two boxes up, and 63% on top tray (high-middle).

Will keep in mind your suggestions for Beads or Kitty Litter for this much space (150 qt.) but so far so good.

Overall real happy with the results. Will be adding a few more boxes today. Great seal, tons of space, and a terrific aroma when opened.
