I am not sure if this is the right place for this but there is some crazy arse stuff going on over at pipesmagazine about Shiney Pipes, an ebay seller. Thought some of you might be interested. I have no horse in the race and don't hang there very often but the thread is becoming epic.

I can't find the discussion on their website. Shinypipes is a prolific Ebay seller.

I've seen his/their listings often, and the pictures look good, real good. The prices were also about 1.5x what you would expect to pay from anyone else.

I've never bought a pipe from ShinyPipes but I've seen many of their listings that are well photographed. I've read comments that suggest that their pictures have been altered, but it doesn't appear so to me and this is a contention that should not be made lightly.

I suspect that the real problem ShinyPipes items are mostly (all?) a set price, Buy It Now, that challenges some collectors who feel that they should be the arbiter of price in an auction setting and when denied they turn ugly, especially if others feel that they pad too much for a pipe.

I have purchased two pipes from them and had good customer service experiences both times. Both pipes were in the condition I anticipated and the prices where reasonable enough that I decided to buy them. Outside of that, I know nothing about them.

Thanks for the link CQ - when I went back it was closed. As I said, I didn't have a dog in the fight, never bought from them, but I am not sure I have ever seen a thread on any forum get so personal. Maybe I do not get out enough. LOL

I buy my estates before any restoration has been done and always will. I like to restore pipes myself so I know exactly what I am getting and also the prices are usually much, much less.

I have purchased several pipes from Shinypipes and returned two of them. The first one I returned wasn't as red as it was shown in the photos; it was very obvious. The second pipe had a depressed area on the bowl that was not shown in the photos. I have bought two pipes from her since then. She lists lots of pipes so it is understandable that there will be issues along the way. I will buy from her in the future is the price is right and the pipe is right. She sells quality pipes, regardless of the price.
