So I'm a bit curious what kind of substantial variety you keep on hand. By that I mean that you buy at least a sampler/small bundle or more. How many staples, especially by the box?
I had figured I'd keep the Avo's and CAO's on hand in number as the sampler is too hard to pass up and I enjoy them immensely, as well as a small ring cigar, but I can see having small bundles of a few I'm finding I'm also enjoying.

In 8 months of cigar smoking ive bought atleast 300 sticks. Ive sold off atleast 150 of which i dont care for as my palate changed, My yard gars are Nica Libres. Always have atleast a box. Ive grown to like Undercrowns, Padron x000's and yes Gurkha Seductions..lol. Keep a bunch on hand of those 3. Also starting to get into the CC side of things and thats growing quick.

I tend to buy when I have the funds, which lately is every other month or so. Because of that I tend to get bundles of budget sticks to hold me over and pick up a few nicer ones here and there.
So my assortment looks something like this, but never all at the same time.
Boxes / Bundles:
Schizo
Casa de Garcia Maduro
Sancho Panza Double Maduro
Nica Libre
5 packs:
Undercrown Corona Viva
Brickhouse Maduro
Room 101 Big Payback
Diesel UHC
Singles:
Anejo 46
Anything that looks good on a B&M trip
Bomb and pass sticks that have not become 5 pack purchases yet.
This group of Bums, and the poof site group before it, really helped expand my cigar lists beyond the junk my local B&Ms recommended for a newbie.
I see my box list getting substantially larger once I make the move to sample other cigars. Good thing I have some storage space lined up as I only smoke a few a week.

I have so many different sticks, I'm almost always trying something new. I haven't bought a box yet. Though there are a few I definitely would, between 5-ers and singles and so much to try I haven't needed to. I probably have about 200 cigars.

I usually have around 10 boxes of ones I know I like and have no problem with the very real possibility of them being around long enough to age.
But I enjoy variety, so I like to go to the B&M and grab a handful of singles I haven't tried and that allows me to mix it up some without demanding too much humidor real estate.

I have hundreds of singles. Many from trades and passes and some from fivers that I either smoked the others or passed/bombed out of. There are so many NCs...I've only bought a handful of boxes (of NCs).

AJF MOW, Diesels and New World are staples in my rotation. Lately I've become a bit of a Tat whore especially the Black Labels and 10th Anny Miamis. Crowned Heads Headley Grange and Jericho Hill are well represented in my humidor as well. Not a whole lot of DE sticks but I like the UC Corona Viva a lot and try to keep them on hand. I'm really liking the RoMa Craft Aquitaine line as well and picked up a box of the Mode 5. Great cigars.
ETA: I almost forgot. The Flores y Rodrigues Cabinet Selection are great cigars and the price on CBid almost make me feel guilty for stealing them.

Ha ha! Too much variety! Makes it hard to choose! At 3 cigars a week (which I do not sustain through the year) I could go well more than a year and never smoke the same one. I probably have around a dozen cigar varieties that I have more than 2 of the same, and an estimated 80% of those is less than 5 of the same. Lots of singles!

Love variety. I probably have quite a few dozen different choices on hand at any given time.
Typically buy by the box though do pick up fivers on occasion.

I'm still developing my palate, so I haven't smoked anything yet that I want to buy a box of. Variety is the spice of life, and this hobby is like a spicemaggedon!

With just over a year of smoking, I think I've only smoked multiples of a few different cigars. Between trades, passes, samplers, and bombs most of all the cigars I have are different.

I started out with buying singles and the occasional 5er... Now i have 3 drawers of nothing but singles in my wineador. now i need to work on smoking them so i can start storing bigger quantities of what I like.
So right now I have a huge variety but a limited amount of the stuff i want to smoke everyday

Right now my humidor has a few hundred sticks and only 2 boxes. There are 3 boxed samplers, but they are for sticks that are not available in 5ers.

I try a lot of different sticks, then buy boxes or bundles of what make an impression on me (if I think while puffing away - hey this is good! - then it's a good sign I like it.).
I generally get 5'ers, then if those go quickly and are enjoyed, I consider a box purchase.

I usually start with one or two, then if I really like them will buy a fiver (to see if they are box worthy for me).
I probably have 30-40 different cigars (still need to verify) out of 104 total but have narrowed down what I want to buy boxes of.
I am now just smoking through what I have in my humidors, to make room for the stuff I want to buy in mass quantities.
The main problem I have is that I keep reaching for those cigars that I want mass quantities of. Heh heh.
I used to keep a detailed spreadsheet of when bought, when smoked, $$, age, etc. I got too busy though and let it lapse.
I really wish I had the time and energy to keep it up, but for the moment I do not.
FYI: These last 3 sentences peaked my curiosity, so I counted my stash.

This is the bit in your post that really rings true for me.
"The main problem I have is that I keep reaching for those cigars that I want mass quantities of."
Burning the favourites at a rate that requires frequent restocking.
Does leave little doubt as to which are your "go to smokes."
For me it means passing over some of the larger sizes/ring gauges and just lighting up another in the Corona - Lonsdale size, and ring gauges of 42 to 46 most often.

This goes for me too. I almost had to search out the smaller ring gauges, but that is what I want.
I now have a bunch of larger cigars, but would prefer if they were coronas.

I've been smoking cigars for a couple years and I've never purchased a box.
I usually buy 5ers and occasionally C-Bid will do bundles of 10 pretty cheap (I got some Oliva O maduros that way).
Lots of singles.
I'm tempted to pick up a couple of boxes of inexpensive sticks that I enjoy. With my situation (full time student) the higher end smokes (Opus X, Anajo, Davidoff Nicaragua, Padron 1964 etc.) will continue to be purchased in singles to be enjoyed on special occasions.
As far as what I keep on hand, as you can ascertain from above, its mostly every day smokes like Pinar Del Rio Sungrown or Oscuros, Olivas, Brickhouse and stuff like that. Most of the time there will be 1 or 2 premium sticks in the midst waiting for the right time (like that T52 that's sitting there now). :)

I certainly understand not getting higher end smokes in bulk. I certainly don't have a great deal of money to throw at this hobby. I have too many and each demands some cash!

I have about six boxes I like to keep on hand, well five because one was a limited production. The rest are purchases of fivers that are also staples. Then there's the singles of new stuff must have. Well and a whole drawer o singles from passes pifs bombs maw.... If I burn through a fiver fairly quick I know whether it's box worthy or not. When finances allow it becomes a box. Cc are box only as I've yet to have a bad one.

I have a whole wineador of boxes, but most of them are CC's. I think the only NC's I have in there a 2013 Romacraft La Campaña de Panamá Soberana, 2014 witchcraft, skullbreakers, a few pudgy monsters, some DE UC pigs, dirty rats, davidoff snake, davidoff sheep. And then another wineadors of singles and 5'ers of all sorts of randomness.

I have partial bundles of at least ten different kinds in there now. Several fivers, usually from 10pks at CI to lock-in the free shipping, LOL. I've found some outstanding, super-value smokes, mostly sandwich filler, that I really enjoy. Thankfully, that allows me to keep a jammed coolidor right now. Just got through ordering from C/I a few mins ago, LOL.
always have my quorum's on hand..but my 400ct humi is now full of singles that I have smoke at least one of...10 sampler boxes on hand an 6 more shipped yesterday..I never buy the same cigar twice as Im tryin to smoke as many different ones as I can..if I could get a deal on double CC's I start buyin them to try..dont need a box
