View Full Version : Do I need a Cigar Will?

OK, so I’m on a long drive at night through a mountainous area a few of weeks ago. It’s pouring rain and the idiot next to me decides he wants to be in my lane and doesn’t care that there is actually a couple of thousand pounds of car already occupying this spot. I hit the brakes hard and shoot back over to his spot with my heart racing and my hands strangling the wheel. To the right is a pretty good drop off that ole’ Christopher is not coming back up on two legs if he rolls over.

This gets me thinking (I had a lot of time to think). OK, so I eat it. Yeah, my family is upset, funeral and whatnot. The guys at work attend but none of them smoke so they probably don’t even burn one in my memory. My dog doesn’t have a smoking buddy anymore. My wife still looks good and I have a crap-load of insurance so she’ll be OK after a while. But at some point she is going to take a look at my wineador and all the other aging cigars I have stashed around the place and say WTF am I supposed to do with these?

She doesn’t know the difference between a Padron 80 year and a Fighting Cock. My babies are in real danger now. She could give them away to some dink or God forbid, throw them out. Repurpose that wineador for wine or a party fridge for her fruity wine coolers no less.

So I’m still thinking – I need a cigar will. Something that ensures the painstaking efforts I have made acquiring, organizing, and generally fawning over my delights won’t go to waste. I would much rather have my beauties going to a deserving BOTL or SOTL that can appreciate the leaf rather than a chump who thinks they smell bad but “Hey, they’re free”.

So maybe I need to leave an envelope with a couple of hundred bucks for shipping and a note: “Get these to Herf N Turf and he will see that they go to a good home”. Or maybe “Send them to DogRockets and he can take a break from buying so much”. What do you think?

Maybe I thought about this too much.

I actually have an executor for my cigar collection and have made arrangements for how the collection will be liquidated......it really depends on its value

They could be left to Cigarbum and a Lapithicus Memorial Cigar Fund generated. With a 5er to be sent to new members when they hit 100 posts and 90 days as an active member for a nominal fee of $20 which will cover shipping and the rest of the money to benefit Cigarbum.

500 cigars would benefit 100 new members and provide $1500 revenue to keep CB going.

You need a living trust, period. Instructions can be left for just about anything, including your cigar stash.

The warden has the keys to my meager collection, and has been instructed to divide them up amongst my friends. Now don't get any ideas it would only be 15-20 cigars apiece. My ashes are going in my best Humidor the others will find homes. No rush by any means

I've got a fairly substantial collection (is it really a collection if you plan to smoke every damn one?).

I've appointed a knowledgeable local and trustworthy BOTL and friend as my cigar executor in the event something happens. He'll figure out the best way to smoke, share and liquidate my stash for fair value.

While the smokes at home represent a pretty hefty chunk of change, I also have quite a few boxes stashed in a vendor's storage lockers. He has a buyback plan where he'll refund the original purchase price so if I kick it my wife can either make a call for liquidation or work with my cigar executor to sell for current value.

Definitely recommend anyone that has a stash upwards of a couple thousand dollars to make appropriate arrangements.

I have instructions to sell all my cigars to fund a holographic me to haunt my enemies. I feel that I will be too busy in the afterlife for such nonsense.

Since I have sold off/given away 95% of my cigar stash over the past 6 years, I am not too concerned about my sticks. I only have a couple humis and coolidor worth now and I know I have enough cigar smokers in my family that they would be burnt in my honor.

Now, my pipe collection and accessories...that is tricky. Part of my heart wishes that they get passed down as family heirlooms, but I am sure pipe smoking (and maybe tobacco in general) will be a thing of the past by the time I am gone. I am not sure anyone in my family would even appreciate them.

So, one day, a thrift store junky might happen upon one hell of a pipe collection.

Christopher, you could set it up so that they would go to our troops, if you are so inclined

Now that's a good idea right there.

Interesting conundrum. Guess that's one of the boons of being a solipsist. I believe that the entire universe ends when I die and therefore I don't have to concern myself with things like that. [emoji3]

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't keep a whole lot of inventory around, so not a big issue here.

This is actually a good idea. I'd hate to be rolling over in my grave knowing that my cigars went to waste.
