So I've been fighting a cold this week but felt better tonight. I wanted to enjoy a fine cigar or two this evening. First I lit up a Tatuaje black label. So excited to try it. Well I couldn't really taste much. Thought it was odd as people love this cigar but I hadn't had it before. Thinking that was just not my style I lit up a Norteno after. Still not tasting anything! Crap! I smoked my only cigars of these and ruined them since I can't taste anything. I'm an idiot.

Colds are the worst, especially when it comes to tobacco. I have a 1 week rule. I wait 1 week from the time I start feeling better before I light anything up that is of value.
I just put everything away when I am clogged up. Or I only smoke super mild stuff that is cheap and I won't care if I miss the taste or not.

I can not agree more with your first sentence of your thread topic. I am glad you have came to terms with this.

I'm on a multi day run of smoking a couple cigars a day and my palate is definitely fatigued...I don't enjoy them as much and although the great flavors are there, they're just not that enjoyable. I normally smoke 3-4 cigars a week and in the last 3 days, I smoked 6. Time to abstain for a bit, and reset the palate.

That sucks man. I've been fighting a cough for about a month, I was getting better but I think I recaught the bug...haven't had a cigar in a looong time because of it :(
On the bright side, they will make more so buy some and you can enjoy them later :)

reset the palate.Great point here! Sometimes you just have to back away and do a palate re-boot. Especially in times of oral crises, such as colds, an invasive trip to the dentist, a new mouth rinse, or a new tooth paste. The smallest things can play havoc with our senses of taste and need to be payed attention to.

Would something like a citrus sorbet reset the palate for cigars like it does between courses at a fine restaurant?

That sounds like something I'd be willing to give a whirl. Another thing that probably has an effect on me lately is the three types of medication for my jacked up back; an anti-inflammatory, a muscle relaxer, and a pretty heavy duty painkiller. Besides being high as hell all the time and ready to fall asleep at the drop of a hat, I've been having the strangest sensation in my teeth.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to back away for a few days. It sucks, but it's reality. I went through this a couple of weeks ago while dealing with some minor food poisoning. I knew I wouldn't be able to enjoy anything I lit up, so I just took a little time off.
