The Official 2015 Kentucky Derby "Lose to Win" Contest

The Rules

1.The buy in is 1 tin or 2oz of premium bulk (ie, no pouches, Lane, or Sutliff for the sake of offending those who avoid said blends)
2.The goal is to have your horse finish behind everyone else's. Since the field will exceed the number of participants, you just need to worry about losing to your fellow pipers.
3.Pick order will be randomly assigned after the sign-ups close (4-26)
4.Picks themselves will be made between 4-27 and 5-1, the race is on 5-2.
5.You pick your losing horse AND and a losing exacta and losing trifecta- these can include the same horses as other contestants, but your last place horse must be unique!
6.If anyone hits the exacta or trifecta, they will get a special prize from Pete and I.
7.If your losing horse scratches prior to derby day, you will be assigned another horse by random number generator so that you can still win the pot, your exacta and trifecta are, however, screwed.
8.Winner (or in this case, loser) takes all, and all players will be provided an address to ship to directly.

Are these exacta and trifecta boxes or just straight up?

For the sake of increasing the odds, AND avoiding the problems of not being able to have more than one person select the final horse, I suggest we do boxes of 3 for the exacta and the trifecta.

I'll put the whole thing in Smoker Terms (ST):


You're betting on a Smoking Contest (who can smoke the longest and be the last to finish).
If you bet on the last smoker to finish you win ALL of the bets that will be sent to you by each individual bettor.
If you bet on the last 2 smokers to finish (in any order) you win an EXTRA prize, (exacta).
If you bet on the last 3 smokers to finish (in any order) you win an EXTRA prize. (trifecta).


Now, replace smoker(s) with horse(s) and there you have it.

If the Trifecta is won then Tobias Lutz will provide a prize that I expect, given his generosity, will be a 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser or something like that.
I will provide a prize if the Exacta (quinella) is won that will be a bag of collected dottle from the last 8 years. Aged tobacco in there people!

The 'Kentucky Derby Draw' determines the entries and their position in the starting gate (post position) and I think it's being televised on NBC at 4:00pm.

As soon as the post positions are assigned you can list your picks.

Selection Format: LastHorse, NextToLast, ThirdFromLast

One line with all three horses is fine. Only one rule: LastHorse must be unique!

Not in the least...just because I've tried a crap-ton of blends doesn't mean I've put any real dent in what's out there. The voluminous nature of the pipe blend market in the last decade greatly surpasses any time in pipe smoking history.

I picked that up on Ebay for $19. It came to me solid black (I don't think the seller even realized it was bronze). I left it only half cleaned because I like the contrast.
