Smoking some IRC Slices (Iwan Ries Company) in a Dunhill group 5 chubby Shell billiard. I got this pipe years ago at a flea market for $50 but the bore was off-center. Sent it to Dave Walker at Walker Briar Works and he fixed it so that you can barely tell that the bore is off center.

Smoked some Drew Estate Central Park Stroll on the way home from work this morning in my MM Eaton. I think it's what Emperor Zurg would call a "flavorless goopy aromatic but I've found that if I load the bowl and let it ride around in the car with me for a couple of days it actually doesn't smoke too bad, kind of a berry/fruit flavor.

DE actually makes decent aromatics. One of the few aros I enjoy occasionally is 7th Ave Blonde. They're not goopy; they actually will dry out and burn to the bottom.
If you want to try a true, flavorless gooper get yourself an ounce of Lane 1Q.

I'm headed out with a healthy dose of Solani-ABF in my apple meer. Only one week left for MMM on the other spot I frequent, in the past 3 weeks this girl has had 90 smokes go through here. By the end of the "event" (it's less an event and more just for fun sake) I should be around the 110 smokes through her. Then it's time for a re wax and a week or so rest to regain her strength. In fact I was out cleaning some of my briars & cobs yesterday getting them ready to be back in rotation. They got a good Everclear scrubbing in the shanks and stems, still need to ream a couple and do a light carnauba buffing.
This was the scene yesterday as I smoked a Partagas 1845 Extra Oscuro

I really like the stuff. I like anything with a sour hit it seems. Dark Star has sour in spades for the first half of the bowl.
Having another go-round with G&H Bright CR Flake.
I didn't like this at all the first time I tried it - which is normal for me - but now, with only 6 months in a jar, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It reminds me a lot of Louisiana flake but not as grassy as that one. It's slightly floral - no doubt because of the light Lakeland topping (which has faded quite a bit in the last 6 months) rather fruity (reminds me of dried apricots although not nearly that sweet or potently fruity) and somewhat sweet. IDK if there's perique in this blend or not - haven't looked it up on TR to find out - but there's a bit of pepper both on the tongue and also the retro. It's nice. I did a rough rub-out prep; just enough to break the flakes into some strands and mostly chunks. Burned a little hot but I had let it dry quite a bit before loading up in a Barling. Not really a big deal because the flavor is best by far if lightly sipped.

When I've been at it a little longer, I will likely be the same.

I'm sorta the opposite. I get bored quick. One blend might hit me as the all-out favorite ever and every time I think of picking up a pipe, that's the blend that comes to mind. Then suddenly I'm bored with it and switch to something different all together. I think I'd rather have a huge variety of blends I sorta like than a dump truck load of just 4 blends I just love.

I have a similar, cobbled concoction inspired by Freestoke (wherever he is). It's party Peter Stokkebye, Cherry Bonbon and partly Gawith Hoggarth, Black Cherry Twist (or sometimes Sweet Rum Twist). I vary the proportions based on how strong of a smoke I'm in the mood for, similar to how much sauce you'd put in a mixed drink. (I.e. The worse the day, the more fingers of sauce). In typical codger fashion, Freestoke usually cut his rope with Prince Albert, but I'm just not that big a fan of burley... plus I'm not a codger... yet.

You're correct -- and very observant! Latakia mixtures have never turned my crank. We're all wired up differently. With food, for example, I don't have a sweet tooth -- I'll take a slice of good buttered sourdough or rye bread in preference to any cake.
Still, it's been years since I've tried a latakia mixture, and a couple of times I've been tempted to try Solani Gold Label English Luxury, as I've been impressed with that brand -- Solani ABF is the only burley that I like. So I think your post is the inducement I needed to get some Solani GLEL. I'm going to buy 25 tins of Dunhill Navy Rolls in the near future, and the Solani GLEL could ride along on the free shipping ticket. Thanks for the prompt!

And what's the verdict?
It's not bad for taking two tobaccos that are unpalatable separately and combining them into something with a hint of cherry and some real tobacco body. The Burley, Maryland and bright Virginia are just leftover flake scraps and the cherry tobacco "Hunt for Cherry" was not that enticing to smoke alone (too much humectant). The mixture smokes pretty dry and satisfies my desire for a little N factor. It tastes a little like G&H Black Cherry Twist but less refined.
I've been smoking it since last night and am putting it aside for a while to smoke some 7 year old SG FVF in a Dunhill Bruyere Canadian with a repaired shank. This is a real treat; got it in a trade on the old Puff site - fellow threw in a couple of bowls worth of flakes of it as an extra bonus.

Glad I'm not the only one. People say 'I don't dry my tobacco, I like it right out of the tin'. Not me, I try that and wind up with a seared tongue. Every time. That and I'm sure I get more steam and less flavor that way... either that or my tongue doesn't work right when it's in the process of being roasted. I dry everything out to 'just before crispy'.

I recall that being awfully soggy too. It was OK but for the price definitely not on my list to acquire more. D&R Rimboche SJ is my staple VaPer, bought 5 pounds when P&C was running that sale, for about 20 bucks a pound. And that is quite dry, I usually rehydrate slightly.

I found this in a Ziploc, stuffed into a Mason jar back in the corner of a cabinet. I had forgotten about it and it has probably been there for 2+ years.
I do not like 1792 Flake directly out of the tin as I find the tonquin bean flavoring to be too assertive. However after it has been out of the tin for a while, and the flavoring has had time to dissipate a bit, it is very nice.
A nice sweet smoke with just the slightest background flavor of the tonquin.
This makes me want to buy a couple of tins, open them, put them in a jar, and put them away for a year or so. It really is good after a while.

I totally get that (well, I don't get the dislike of tonquin... the stuff is delicious :D ) This is my SOP with many Gawith Hoggarth blends; such fine tobac but I can't stand that Rose Grannystink they sauce everything with. So I order in bulk and pack it away in mason jars with sealing disk inverted. After a couple years the stink has mostly faded away leaving very nice tobacco behind. (Gotta keep an eye on the moisture tho, I never let it get too dry). Then I flip the disk back over and seal it up proper like.

Woo hoo! All of my closets have a set of five built-in drawers. Yesterday evening I discovered three tins of Royal Yacht in one of them. Each was dated Aug, 2012, so nearly five years of age on them. I immediately opened one, of course, and put the tobacco into a Weck canning jar, along with two humidifying capsules. Now puffing the second consecutive fill. Very tasty, it is! My only complaint with Royal Yacht is its garish tin label -- would be more appropriate for a tobacco named Chinese Fire Drill.

Puffing a fill of Fribourg & Treyer Vintage from a just-opened tin with 2-3/4 years of age on it. I haven't seen anyone else mention this tobacco, so I'll say a few words about it. It's a Virginia flake with a tasty topping. Opening a tin is a delight. Beautiful light brown color, variegated with lighter and darker leaf, and a heavenly aroma. Very soft smoking, and it explodes with flavor. I've smoked this tobacco longer than any other in my current rotation, except for DF. A lovely room note too. The SmokingPipes blurb says that it has no flavoring, but that's flat wrong.

I just reached for my jar of ready rubbed -- Wessex Classic Virginia. I mostly smoke flake tobacco, partly because I like the compact storage of the small 50g rectangular tins. But this dark red VaPer is so tasty that I tolerate its space-inefficient round tin. Mostly rubbed out, but some chunks (OK by me). Generally mild, but just a bit of an edge that's part of its flavor complement. No stems, and takes fire easily. A very fine tobacco.

That is formed from the crystallization of the sugars in the Virginia leaf.
