It's a really small pond but there are fish in it. Today the snow cleared enough so that I could assess the situation. Pond surface is liquid and both bubblers worked without fail through the winter. Water temo is 36. I believe that the deep snow cover (pond included) insulated it. Maybe the critters made it!? Fingers crossed.

I received this pipe with severe damage to the upper tobacco chamber (cratered burn and a sizeable fissure emanating from the burn) that's a greater problem because it's a small bowl. so I've chose a broken flake that will pack and burn more evenly. I have no idea how long ago it was last smoked but there's a flavored ghosting that tastes like black cavendish. It performs like an old Barling, that's to say that it smokes really well and despite being considerably smaller than my norm I believe that we'll become good friends. This pipe was abused and has little remaining intrinsic value (I paid accordingly) but like a rescued pup it's clearly a keeper.

Some homemade flake n a meer. This flake is VA Gold-based, with some added burley, VA, and lat.
Down to the bottom of the jar, so it's pretty much just dried-out crumbs at this point, so for my 2nd bowl I put a coin of bullseye flake at the bottom and crumbs of my homemade flake at the top, to keep the bits from traveling up the smoke tube. Nice flavor mix!

Well lets see.
Old Joe Krantz in my new CAO Meer. Smoked a bit sour, needs more cleaning. But mechanically, very solid smoker!
Mississippi Mud in a 1940s Custombilt. Don't like this blend in this pipe. Smoked OK, should of smoked it in my 90's Roma Savi...speaking of which...
Abingdon in my 90's Roma Savi. Smoked excellent, awesome complex taste.
Kendal Cream Flake in a Savi Alligator 1/2 bend. Another great smoke.
St. James in my late 90's Pete Irish Whiskey. I love this FVF with perique thing it has going on :p
Grasmere Flake in the Lakeland Legend. Good solid Lakeland flake. I would say topping wise it is between a Kendal Flake and Ennerdale Flake.
(I think) Wessex Burley Slices in a 1930s Custombilt. Wasn't too thrilled on this one. It was ok. Pipe smoked well at least.
I think that was about all that I partook in. About a bowl an hour, all while watching basketball and enjoying with friends. Went through plenty of bowls together. Good time.

Good time.
The Meer Porn I promised will be in the March Meer thread soon.
Oh how I wish I had some pipe smoking friends...I smoke a gauntlet here and there and it'd be sweet if I had a buddy to share the fun with... great work on the pipes today, man! Sorry some didn't sit right, but that's the game.
Smoking a bowl of St. James Flake in a cob with a 2 finger pour of some whiskey. I don't think I'll ever buy FVF again when I know I can have it with perique. Great smoke.

I wish that we did it more often. Life is hectic and we all work crazy jobs. This is the first time that we all had gotten together in probably 4 months to have some bowls and enjoy.
But when we are able to do it, we usually go all out and have a blast doing it!
My night isn't over. I think I will have a couple more before the night is done :pipe:

Sounds lovely. I love Great Falls. Va or MD side? The kids and I love hiking the Billy Goat trail.
I just smoked a bowl of Esoterica 'Stonehaven' in a slight bent MM cob. What a fine fine smoke. Initially gave earthy nutty core flavors with a hint of sugary sweetness. Deeper in the bowl I started getting vanilla and some prune flavors, particularly in my sinuses. I think Pugsley has had this tobacco since 2009 but I'm too ignorant to recognize how this might have influenced the Flavors and overall smoking experience. At the risk of overdoing it, I've got the thank Warren again for this great assortment of pipes and baccy. I'm like a kid with a pile of new toys.

Y'all remember that self-challenge I posted a few weeks ago? Yesterday (3/21/15) I decided to give it a try, as I was outdoors most of the day barbecuing anyway.
One problem I encountered was that Mr. Inks apparently doesn't sleep, so I just had to pick a 24-hour period. I chose midnight to midnight.
I watched/counted up JimInks 's entries on 3/21 and attempted to smoke a bowl (standard size MMs mostly) of my own tobacco for every one of his.
Couldn't do it :(
Made it to seven before my inflamed mouth completely rejected the notion of getting any more tobacco near it.

Who makes the SixPence and why (if I may ask) wouldn't you buy it again?
Mr. Pease makes it. I bought it because of the components, which I all love (they're red va, perique, and dark fired) but I won't buy it again because it has a flavoring that when combined with the leaf, gives it a certain pungentness that is akin to valerian root..not bad, just different. I'd have preferred a little more creaminess or sweetness rather than the more savory approach.
Just a change of pace for my tastes.

Cookies fight a lot so you have to separate them. There should be a Senate Sub-Committee created to look into Cookie Packaging, at least they'd (Senators) be doing something.
I blame it on the Wharton Business School, our brightest young minds figuring out how to squeeze more money out of us. Was it supposed to work this way?

This reminds me of a story that was told to me but supposedly told by Red Buttons (close friend of Berle):
Milton Berle was widely reputed to be the best endowed man in Hollywood and there were several incidents where 'young guns' (pardons) challenged him about it.
One day Berle and Buttons were in a gym, dressing to leave. A particularly obnoxious young man bragged that Berle was afraid to compare weapons side by side and he pulled his out claiming that he would win. Upon seeing the young man's size Buttons said,
"Come on Milton, pull out enough to win and let's go".

I shouldn't smoke this pipe again, rarely do I light the same pipe up twice in a day, but it was so good and it started calling to me.
It's cold tonight but less of a cutting cold than over the past few nights. I'm in a bit if a quandary. Noises were coming from behind me last night by my garage. I thought it was a raccoon. The noises continued today during daylight and though I missed him at first (man did he blend with the plastic trash can bottom), there is a handsome rat in there.
Sadly he needs to go but I haven't the means to dispose of him presently (I ordered a trap from Amazon today). So I sit and wait with a fellow soul who is doomed but his frantic jumps make his denial. I can sleep should I choose but his sleep would be his last. When he goes I hope it is in peace, if possible. I'll wait a little longer and smoke my pipe and count my blessings.

And I'm sorry for the demise of tin art. I'd like to have seen the entire label, but clearly there is what I assume to be a warning label in Japanese slapped on it. I think it's time they started putting the tin art on the back, with the manufacturer's details on the lid with the warning label.
Finished yesterday with ten bowls, about an average smoking day. I smoke pretty small bowls, though, cob-size or slightly larger, so it's not really much different from smoking ten cigarettes, only it takes longer. I also pack pretty light when I fill a pipe and most of the time roll musketballs, which are really only a little more than half a bowl. I think people who sit with those humongo pipes and puff along on a 5gr load for two plus hours actually smoke more tobacco than I do if they smoke even three bowls.

Lately, I'd say about 1/2, with a few days of nothing else. I'm out (or almost out) of a lot of tobaccos that would normally fill the void, Kendal Kentucky, Dark Birdseye, Old Dark Fired, Irish Flake, et hoc genus omne, so RY is more or less a fall-back position, although quite a comfortable one. I do have some old cans of FVF that I should break out, or perhaps the Best Brown. I like those pretty much, but barely enough nicotine, really. I need to place an order, but I'm still in asset liquidation mode on my cellar.
Reducing the assets with a bowl of Marlin Flake right now. Not the greatest room note, now is it?
