As far as I know, they are.

Lucite Stems - Old Log Cabin Pipe Works (http://oldlogcabinpipeworks.com/lucite/)

I have been checking with them since they took over the operation and they still don't have the ones I want. She said they no longer have a supplier for the standard amber colored lucite stems or the standard black lucite stems.

Finished my day with Dunhill Flake in a Willard pot with a saddle bit.
This is fast becoming a favorite of mine, has a nice nip like a good bowl of
chili.

I've smoked DF longer than any tobacco in my current tobacco rotation. It's always a pleasure, and, unlike some topped tobaccos, it never becomes tiresome towards the bottom of the tin. My only complaint is that the flakes often adhere to the point that I can't extract a whole intact flake. Possibly because my tins are at least two years old when I open them.

Now puffing Escudo and sipping a cup of Nespresso dark-roast arabica coffee.

G&H Sweet Rum Twist in the little Imperial Two Point lovat.

This tobacco is the best cube cut IMO - This one seems too harsh to me when I rub it out.

I cut a couple of 3/16 thick coins off the rope with a cigar cutter, cube cut those into biggish chunks with a single edge razor blade and let them completely dry out. Then I drop those chunks into the pipe till it's near full and sprinkle the loose bits and pieces on the top for tinder. One of these days I'm going to try just dropping a few of the whole coins directly into a bigger pipe and then using something like PA as tinder... but I think that much G&H rope just might kill me.

What did you think of it? I like PS 41 from time to time (never having been a big fan of burley) but I have to let it air a looong time or it smokes wet and bites. It doesn't seem like it but I think that blend is probably shipped very wet. Probably why it stays so nicely in cube form.

This was such a disappointment. I remember Sugar Barrel, which this is supposed to be a match for, as being a one dimensional but somewhat enjoyable change of pace occasional smoke, but this was easily the worst tobacco I've ever smoked. Just glad I didn't buy a whole tub.

I think it is a very enjoyable non-aromatic pipe tobacco. Needless to say, it has lots of true tobacco flavor and a moderate amount of nicotine. It reminds me of a blend from my early days of pipe-smoking, Edgeworth Ready-Rubbed. I really like the cube-cut format.

The Black Irish X is a mellower version of their "brown" #4 rope, as it's been stoved, or so they say. I prefer it to the brown #4 as it doesn't give me that feeling of having my mouth coated with plastic, as do other ropes I've tried, including my own concoctions. Burned okay but got a little soggy toward the end - I'll have to let it dry more next time. I would characterize the nicotine content as "bracing."

First pipe of the day is Balkan Sasieni in a MM Legend. Though not one of MM's better pipes, this one has served me long and well, but I think this will be it's last smoke. The shank is cracked halfway from the stem to the bowl, a result of inserting a Forever stem a bit too forcefully, and the end in the bowl is almost completely burned away. I have many more of these but this was the one I reached for most. It will be sad to see it go.

I mentioned earlier about my plan to smoke up all the small portions of tobaccos that I had stashed around in baggies. I thought that I had a pint jar and a half-pint full of these small amounts to smoke. Well today I was moving some tobacco from the kitchen to some shelves in my bedroom where I can see what I have better and I came across these that I forgot that I had. Five more quart jars and a pint jar full of baggies of tobacco! Yee-ha!

Sounds like it's just getting broken in if the bit of birch shank pokin' into the bowl is burnt away! The cracked shanks are a pickle though. I usually pry apart, and fill with wood glue, and cross my fingers.

Well, it's a cob and I buy them in bags of 10, (rejects), and there are plenty more here to take it's place. If it was a briar I might have taken more heroic measures to save it, but the bowl was wobbly on what was left of the end of the shank, and with the crack too, it was just time to put it down.

Well today was cleaning day.Unfortunately not pipe cleaning.Instead I've been
reclaiming my living room and dining room. For the past two plus years,my wife and I
have secluded ourselves to the master bedroom with limited use of the remainder of
the house. This was to allow our son and his S/O to have something of privacy and
a sense of living apart from us.By moving them to an apartment we now want to use
the rooms ourselves. With all the toting and cleaning,I have only managed to finish
the bowl of LL Dark Red I started last night and then lit up a Felipe Dominacan cigar.
That got me kick into the LV room to smoke it,so I popped a Guiness Draught and
read thru a couple chapters of "In Search of Pipe Dreams". Good book, good drink,
and a good smoke in a quiet room.Yeah, life is improving.

He did two blends for me and one of four for the group that I wanted a pound each of. (I think it was C blend.) We were going to perfect the customs and roll them out when tragedy struck. I think he was going to have a tasting in the group and the winner would receive a Barling from his collection. I recall being worried Chico's blend was a shade more approachable than mine. He called me and I convinced him he didn't owe us anything and he should take time to celebrate his wife's recovery and to take care of his granddaughter. And mourn his son. He said he would be back and that's good enough for me, I loved that guy...

Finally getting around to the first pipe of the day, SPC Mississippi River in a MM Country Gentleman. Been having trouble with the internet connection, so Comcast sent someone out to check it out. Turns out we had multiple problems. Squirrels had chewed the insulation off the cable where it comes of the pole. There was a metal connection piece that performed some function that I still don't understand, it was bad. And last, but not least, the modem was "missing some code" and we needed a new one. After the repairs were done I fired up the laptop and ran a speed test. Where I had been getting download speeds ranging from 12 mbps to less than 1 mbps, I'm now getting a steady 108 mbps. I'm a happy camper and best of all it didn't cost me one cent.

The Country Gentleman is my favorite of the line. Comcast is usually pretty good about fixing my problems with my internet connection here in East Tennessee too. A good day for me -- alternating fills of Solani 633, my favorite VaPer, and F&T Cut Virginia Plug, my favorite topped Virginia.

Then off to the Pacifica restaurant in Del Mar CA, about 15 minutes north of my home, for lunch. I always order their Mustard Catfish. Lightly breaded, served over a bed of succotash, and dribbled with a tasty sauce. And a glass of Hess Chardonnay. Delish bread too. The Pacifica has an outdoor dining terrace with a glorious view of the Pacific, but Del Mar is run by liberals, and the whole village is a no-smoking zone.

Well at least your beer's cold.

Just loaded up a bowl of 4 year old Bob's Chocolate flake. I've had a pound resting in a quart mason jar with the lid on loose and the disk upside down for the last 4 years. Why? Because now, not only is it no longer soaking wet, but more importantly the floral stink has diminished to the point that there's only a trace of it left. A bowl's worth still required a half hour of dry time, believe it or not.

It's not just Del Mar, this whole state is a no smoking zone, even in the extreme right wing secessionist northern areas of California.

Is that the one that smokes hot or the new one?

If it's an old pipe that smoke hot, just use it as a 'car pipe'. That way, when you finally get fed up you can toss it out the window and be done with it. A bad pipe is a terrible thing...

It's the new one. The coating on the inside of the bowl almost seems to prevent the formation of cake, very strange. I'm considering reaming it back to bare wood and starting over.

Kalifornia is such a beautiful state. It's a shame it's run by the Granola people. If you get rid of the flakes, you still have a large dose of fruits and nuts. Of course, every state has its problems and I'm not picking on your state any more than another. We don't pay our teachers a decent living wage and it pisses me off as they're saints to me. Sorry to hear that. The sandblast and finish are nice on mine. What I don't like is the bowl heats very quickly and the coating seems to prevent cake buildup.

It is a classic, and if you dig aromatics, this is one of the great ones. Cool burning and delightful to the nose, some of the topping comes through in the flavor as well. A distinct butterscotch note.

Several years ago, in a thread on the pipe section of puff.com there was some kind of review challenge where multiple members tried LL-7 and 4noggins' Three Blind Moose, and both were found to be of comparable quality and pleasantness. I recall the 4noggins was found to be just a bit richer and more buttery, but only slightly so.

That sounds like a VERY fine supper to me.

Tonight's dinner menu is a bit more ambitious. It's a cool, rainy day here in northern California, a good day to use the oven. I have a 7 lb. boneless pork shoulder that I'll roast after applying a paste of fresh garlic, fresh rosemary, extra virgin olive oil, stoneground mustard, kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. To accompany it we'll have mashed potatoes with homemade gravy and homemade coleslaw made of both red and green cabbage and shredded carrots with a homemade dressing of fresh lemon juice, mayo, salt, pepper, sugar and vinegar. There, I'm exhausted just writing that. Time for a bowl of Balkan Sasieni in a MM Legend and a second mug of coffee.

Edit: Almost forgot dessert. Baked, spiced Fuji apples topped off with a dollop of French vanilla ice cream. And now, to the kitchen.
