Lit a pipe full of some old Dunhill Early Morning Pipe, walked out to check the post from yesterday and found out I could be smoking some Organically Grown Flake that OnePyroTec sent! Dammit!
I'll finish this EMP and my cup of coffee and immediately toast up some OGF.

Smoking my sample of McClelland OGF in a Fero author. This is a nice Va flake, bright leaf with a light sweetness, lightly tangy, but the flavor is tad rounder than a typical blend of all golden virginias. Good stuff!

Practically nothing but RY in various pipes for three straight days, right now in a huge Ser Jacopo. Sauerbraten tonight! Warming up with a fine pilsner from Genesee Brewing Corporation, one of the few mainline American beers remaining. Practically everything is now owned by a Russian conglomerate and the rest by IntBev. Budweiser, Rolling Rock, Old Milwaukee, Schlitz, Pabst, Rainier, Olympia, National Bohemian, Lone Star...the list is long and depressing.

Gonna shake it up with a bowl of ...hmmm...Erinmore Flake! Yeah, Nick, I think my mostly-Limey genes were activated when I lived in England.
HA! I had a jar that used to hold RY, but when I opened this can of Erinmore the other day, I stuck it in the empty jar without relabeling it. So, even though it's Erinmore Flake, I feel that, technically speaking, the RY Juggernaut serendipitously continues apace!

What is your opinion of the D&R offerings? I see them at good prices on P&C pretty regularly, but I've never smoked them.
D&R makes mostly dual-purpose tobaccos. Most have a cut and moisture level that they can be used in RYO cigarettes, but with a bit of added moisture can be good in a pipe, or can be used as blending tobaccos. Essentially, they are uncased, and have about the dryness and cut of Five Brothers.
I've only tried these two:
Picayune is an excellent alternative to Five Brothers, as it also has VA, oriental and perique. Reputedly one of the strongest pipe tobaccos, nicotine-wise. I have found it to be very strong, but the jury's out on whether it beats Brown Bogie.
Rimboche A.B. is one of their pipe-only tobaccos, and is a delicious and totally unique Latakia blend. Nothing else quite like it.
D&R tobaccos, being uncased, means that you get a lot more tobacco for your dollar, even given that they are already inexpensive. One can add some distilled water if necessary.

Had a great time at pipe club last night and much baccy was smoked. I got to try a bowl of Murray's Era Dunhill Standard Mixture from 2002 (excellent!) and also a blend that had Syrian Latakia (much different than the smoky Cyprian we mostly smoke now). It's amazing how fast three hours go by with great company and good baccy.

Yeah.. heavy flavors tend to meld like that. A little air time and a pipe that doesn't have a strong tasting cake in it might bring out the different components.

Sounds weird. I realize Pipes and Cigars calls it Louisiana Perique Flake, but it has always been simply Louisiana Flake to me. Isn't that what "Louisiana" is supposed to imply, perique? I mean, it's not St. James Perique Flake. Smoking Rattray's answer to LF, Marlin Flake.

Hi Jim,
You are correct! I just looked at the box and it is indeed just Louisiana Flake.
How're you holding up to the white ground cover?

Morning JT,
Sorry to hear about you getting more snow that means that we across the Sound had a narrow miss. Snow is melting slowly and the worst would appear to be over.
When Bengal Slices was introduced (late 1970s) the James Russell sales rep said that it represented the English Colonial period in India. A Latakia / Virginia (thick cut) flake was pretty novel at the time and India grew strains of Virginia but no Latakia. I didn't get the connection until the head of sales explained to me that it was the color of the resulting flake, (somewhat) alternating black and yellow, like that of a bengal tiger.
PipeTobacco.Com (where I get my Louisiana Flake) also refers to it as Louisiana Perique Flake. I don't know the history of the blend but perhaps it was called the longer name at some point before a fellow of erudition, such as yourself, pointed out the repetitive nature of the mixture's name.

I own 260 pipes, but I can't answer the rest of your question because I've never thought about it. I have favorites and a few non-favorites, but that's about as much an answer as I can give. Just never think about it. What pipe I smoke depends on what tobacco I am smoking.

Of course first we'd have to bury you in snow...
SPC Plum Pudding in Forever MM Pride
Haha no Bogie in my pipe today, but I do believe I met freestoke's doppelganger out there today...
A gent in his mid 60s, beautiful large bowled Peterson military mount hanging from his mouth and drilling crisp iron shots all over the range. Turns out that they were the group playing behind ours so the pipes in our mouths made for instant conversation makers. He was really funny, and was smoking Carter Hall what else? He said he liked to smoke a pipe @ Downriver because it brought him luck from the Bing gods (Bing Crosby regularly enjoyed playing this course).
The Bing gods weren't looking so happily down on me. Had a decent front (46) but had the typical Brandon break down on the back and shot a 51! Luckily I pared the wholes the other guys didn't and was able to bogey 3 that the others didn't so at least I contributed to the score card (we were playing a best all round, 4 scores had to be recorded 4 players). We got second with a group score of 75, which means we got all our green fees back plus a few extra bills to spend at the 19th Hole.
Here is a pic of Bing and Bob playing downriver:

Now I am grabbing some more tobacco and heading off for dinner and competing in a trivia night at one of the local bars...I work early tomorrow...here comes a regrettable decision!
