I was given a 3-lb can of Kirkland ground coffee so I put my grinder in the basement until needed again. This morning there was just enough of the Kirkland for one last cup that I put outside, on the deck table, before going back inside to select this tobacco and pipe.

When I returned outside (perhaps 3 minutes) there were two honey bees floating dead in my coffee! Holy Sh*t, an insect suicide pact!!

I fished them out with a fork and wanted to be angry but I like honey bees, so I put them on a napkin and I decided to drink the coffee anyway.

Hey, we eat honey and some people drink Civet Coffee and you know where that's been!

Got the grinder from the basement, made a second cup of coffee, set it on the deck table and seconds later a honey bee was hovering over it with obvious intent. Now aware of his impending fate, I shooed him away but he returned. Took a few determined shoos to save his life but who knew that bees have a suicidal need to imbibe a little java.

Just finished my first smoke in the Jacopo Renaissance apple and it was sublime. Every flavor present, pronounced and crisp but it was too good to be a valuable test of the the mixture. Ironic because the white acrylic stem on this pipe (it was supposed to be black) caused me to kill the line although they did make a few Renaissance series pipes after that.

Big changes going down at work have been keeping me extremely busy and it looks like the next six months will only get worse. It is, however, short term pain for long run gain. This has prevented me from posting as much as I like but so it goes as they say.

Just had a bowl of Davis and Son London Guard in "The Doodler". Tobacco was sent to me from a friend in Washington. Very mild sweet tobacco with just a touch of smokiness from the Latakia.

Spent this morning revisiting a VA/burley blend I concocted a few years back. Mainly red VAs with a small dose of white VAs and an equal amount of burley, plus one component I can't recall at the moment. It's fairly straightforward and just tasty enough to keep me puffing, but it's brutal if you go too hard. Definite tongue bite territory. I don't think I'll mix any more of this.

The afternoon was then spent revisiting an Oriental/Lat/VA blend that I made around the same time. It's good, especially for having been jarred for two years. The exotics didn't lose any punch even though I blended it to be on the mild side. I think it's a keeper and will probably whip up a pound or two and see how the customers take to it.

Right now I'm puffing on an aro I made for a customer. He wanted something a bit stronger than Trout Stream that featured a little more butterscotch and a faint vanilla backbone. He seems to love it, judging by how often he buys it, but I only had access to PG-soaked flavored tobaccos so it's not quite my cup of tea. There aren't enough VAs and burleys in the world to cut through the PG flavor I pick up from things like this.

It's not too bad - spicy, smoky, slightly sweet, but a little cigaretty; next time I think I'll omit the imzir.

Early this morning I had a bowl of Gatlin-burlier Mellow Moonshine blend in my "new" estate Sunrise Canadian that I got on Ebay. White burley I've heard of but I was hoping that there is a White Virginia as I imagined a mixture the color of Latakia and PVC shavings :).

I've only smoked one Sutliff mixture, a Latakia that was appropriately moist but I suspect that there may be others on the forum who share your experience with their aromatics.

I'm still not quite on track. Last smoke was an Arganese Cafe Dominicana (yesterday afternoon). Lovely morning cigar so I put a torch to one @6:30am. Pipes later.
