The pipe was made right over in Royal Oak. Being a local boy google Malaga pipes. I have a few of them and while I really like the way this one looks, it is the worst smoker of the lot.

The smoke effect is easy. Take the picture in the dark using a flash.

Yes, I remember that store from my childhood - didn't make the connection till you mentioned it - thought it was just a tobacco store, didn't know he made pipes. The father of a friend of mine used to get his pipe tobacco there. My father would get a cigar there once in a while. When we were kids we'd poke in sometimes when we were bumming around downtown, way before Royal Oak was cool. Of course we weren't able to buy anything :) Last time I was there was in the late 90's - some kid was managing it. Went out of business shortly thereafter.

It may look like a lot of perique, but it's really not, compared to some blends out there today. The nicotine content is quite light and there are no toppings, just pure tobacco the way I like it.

Cleaning up the top of my dresser, removing piles of detritus I uncovered three cobs and the Forever stem. After a delicious bowl of RY in the CG Forever, it's on to a Dip Forever with more RY. I believe the new worst commercial in history has hit the cableways. All records are there to be broken, as they say, and this one simply has established a new nadir of creepiness and bad taste. It's the Quilted Norther toilet paper ad with the bunny in the bathroom. "Smash me." Sick stuff. It has the spookiness of a movie like Chunckie, combined with a disquieting, threatening bathroom humor. I don't think anyone is safe until the perpetrators responsible have been put away safely with their insane kindred spirits.

I had a very small amount of 3 year old Frog Morton I got from Tony78 and about the same amount of Dunhill My Mixture 965 (that I also got from Tony if I recall correctly) so I did what any respectable pipe smoker would do. I mixed them together and got exactly enough to fill the bowl of a MM Huck Finn.

It was pretty darn tasty.

Anybody else mix stuff together at times when you have less than a bowl's worth on hand?

Some Peterson's Irish Whiskey in a Brigham Chinook with rock maple filter. I don't smoke aros often but I have had three bowls of this so far and really enjoy it. The whiskey flavor is light but noticeable and the room note is excellent. I also have to give props to the Brigham as the filter appears to remove a little bite yet the flavor is not muted.

First smoke in a John Bessai smooth, straight billiard I picked up a few weeks ago. Stamped Cleveland, OH on the right side of the shank indicates that it was made no later than the 40's, but the slightly rounded mouthpiece suggests that it was earlier, probably the early 30's. All of his pipes I have from the 40's have a thinner, more comfortable mouthpiece. The drilling, as usual, is perfect and open, and after finishing this bowl of Dunhill Nightcap, it will probably join my regular rotation for smoking latakia blends.

I love Vapers and am a big fan of St. James Flake. Judging by my initial impression, this is every bit as good.

Smoked some G&H Dark Plug in my Venere. That particular tobacco does not play around in the nicotine department. Finishing the night with Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882. Needs to smoke fairly dry to develope the orientals.

A bowl of Sweet Vanilla Honey Dew in the Calabash while waiting to put the next coat of Polyurethane on the living room floor. I really like how this pipe smokes. It takes the bite out of young Virginia's and leaves absolutely no dottle.

The chocolate and Latakia tin note and room note are both very pronounced. Wife and mother-in-law find it very pleasing. In the smoking I'd say the chocolate note comes though more than many other chocolate-topped/infused blends, and the rest of the flavor is classic English. I took a chance buying a tin of this, and I have no regrets. It is wonderful.

Semois in an MM Freehand. With how dry and fast burning this tobacco is (pack it tight!) the Freehand is the perfect pipe for it with it's deep bowl. Smoke time is comparable to that of a moister tobacco in a standard size bowl.

This evening after dinner I was still in the mood for a Vaper so I had the last of my St. James Flake, smoked in a small bowled Willard briar (cheap flea market find but a wonderful smoker). The only St. James Flake I have left is what I have jarred from the inaugural group buy. Can't open that yet, so I must remember to order another tin soon. :pipe:
