I see a lot of guys on here really seem to enjoy the Lancero and smoke them quiet frequently. What is it about them that you guys like so much? I'm very new to the hobby and have not had the chance to try one but in reading a lot of the threads on here guys seem to really enjoy them. I am just wondering if this is something I should be on the lookout for the next time I make it to my local B&M. Thanks guys and any info would be greatly appreciated.

I enjoy them frequently. You get a different wrapper-filler ratio, so if you like the wrapper it's a good deal. Basically you'll taste more of the wrapper than you would with a larger RG cigar.
Otherwise I think it's mostly preference. Not as clumsy or random as a 70RG, the lancero is an elegant cigar for a more civilized age.

Whaaaaat! Why not? Just hasn't happened, or you've been avoiding them?

I enjoy the shape of the vitola and the smaller RG. I'm also a big fan of PCs. I never got onto the 80rg, "mine is bigger than yours" bandwagon. So I suppose lanceros appeal to my feminine side.

Agree with what's already been said. Better wrapper-filler ratio allows you to taste more of the subtle and complex notes in the cigar.

@lvfcrook1503 I was actually looking at the latest purchases thread when I saw your box of DPG Blue Lanceros and that got me to thinking more about it. I kept seeing them talked about and yours was what finally made me ask. Very nice btw. I have a couple of the smaller DPG Blue's from a good guy here I'm letting acclimate before I set one on fire.
Thanks guys. The filler to wrapper ratio makes sense and I do recall @Bowtech4ever telling me before that is why he prefers the smaller rg in some of his smokes. I had just forgotten about it. Lol, like sooo many other things.
So what is the burn time for the avg Lancero?

Depends on the construction and type of smoker that you are. I average around 1:45 with them. Seems like anything Tat or DE smokes a little slower though. Had a Tat Fausto and Liga L40 last week that took me over 2 hours to smoke. I'm a very slow smoker though. I can easily make a fuente short story or a petite corona last an hour

I like them for sitting and just relaxing, maybe sipping on a beverage. nice cool smoke, good flavors, and they make me feel like Gomez Adams :D

Let me start by saying this is what I was told about a Lancero. I personal haven't researched the information. They are harder to role than a bigger gage cigar. So it is going to take a skilled roller to manufacture them. This in turn making them one of the better rolled cigar with a lot less filler.

Yep, I'd say I average 1:45-2:00. Smoke them slow! They get hot quicker than larger cigars and can turn bitter or harsh if you smoke them too quickly. Take long slow puffs, with plenty of rest between them.

Does anyone know of a Lancero sampler anywhere online other than the Tatuaje ones? I don't recall ever seeing any despite there being many other lanceros out there.

I've never tried one either. I have thought that they may be handy on the golf course though. Sometimes a Churchill is just too unwieldy, and I think having a couple smaller smokes on the course may be better than 1-2 big ones.

Lanceros are supposed to be one of the hardest vitolas to roll. I remember seeing in a factory video, I believe it was JDN, that they only allow a few of the better rollers to make them and the rollers also need to have big hands.
A tricky thing with lanceros is their typically only made with 2 leaves in the filler. So not only does all the leaf have to be really good the harmony does too or there just won't be any complexity. Like in the case of the L40 some lanceros are slightly bigger in RG than the traditional 7x38 to try and add more depth to the blend. According to Saka these limitations only allow certain blends to lend themselves to the format. Which makes a good lancero even more special.

Pretty much all of the reasons are already listed in the previous answers. It is a classic vitola that is pretty much only rolled by real masters of technique. Also keep in mind that most blends are fine tuned in the Corona format so I feel with a Lancero you get a little closer to what the blend was intended to be as opposed to these huge jaw breaker sizes.
Plus they just look elegant and exude class. :)

What he said. More than just about any other vitola, the 38RG and under requires a slow pace to maximize flavors and avoid harshness/bitterness.
All cigars can benefit from this but particularly the long and skinnies!

I love Lanceros and feel every cigar smoker should try at least one and see what you think.
I agree on smoking them slow and easy. For some reason I seem to spend more time focusing on a Lancero than any other vitola while I smoking. It just seems to draw my attention. Kinda weird ain't it?

Not sure what to call the MUWAT KFC Delfinas that I'm smoking right now as it's a 6x26 sized vitola? Maybe a Super Lancero?...
LAN CERO

I think the Delfina would be a Panatela, 'nuther of my faves, LOL. I was all set to order some, until they jacked the price
on them like 130%. I'll wait for them to hit the Monster, now, LOL.
The commentary on the talent needed to roll the size would seem to make sense with regard to their cost.
The Lance is most often the costliest in a line-up to try, though one would think it uses LESS tobacco per stick.
My sig-line is a thumbnail to what I've tried so far, though I may be forgetting one or two. Most recent gems that I've found
were some Nestor Miranda Special Seleccione on closeout from a local 'grocer'. Yes, we have a high-end chain in town
catering to wealthier folks. They actually have a nice walk-in humidor in each location.

Wow. I've been away from DE too long. Those are cheap too. Never been much fan of the KFC but like to keep a few on hand. Thanks for reminding me.

IMO they aren't something you want to sit on so if you get em burn em. The one I had with 6 months on it tasted nothing like they do fresh.

Strange because I have the opposite experience. If I am working from home and on the computer all day, I grab a lancer because I don't have to baby it or pay too much attention to it. I can put it down for a couple of minutes and pick it up after admiring a piece of code I just wrote and it smokes like a champ. Just goes to show how interesting this hobby is that different people can have different thoughts about the same cigar.

Lanceros provide a more intense flavor experience, in my experience. There's a certain... clarity to them. I find that they do require slower draws, and can burn hotter if not taken slowly, but that's also part of the joy.
As was already mentioned, I rarely if ever have an issue with the construction on a lancero, which is likely due to the skill required to roll the vitola.
A few of my favorites:
-Caldwell Long Live the King "My Style is Jalapeno"
-Caldwell Eastern Standard Silk Road
-262 Paradigm
-DPG Blue
-El Triunfador (OR)
-Tatuaje Black Petit Lancero
-My Father #4
-Tatuaje Tattoo (OR)
-Don Carlos
-Casa Fuente
There are more I'm forgetting, but all of the above have been stellar smokes.
