I was thinking about getting an acrylic jar humidor for my desk at work - sometimes I like to burn one on the way home. Then I remembered that I have a box of quart jars in the basement.

Voila :)

Threw in a few sticks (robustos & shorter toros and torpedos - churchills won't fit), 65% Boveda pack, and a cutter. Problem solved!

Nice, I'm a big fan of Jaridors, it's all I have so far. I bought the 2 bigger one's at a local grocery store but have been picking up the smaller one's at the dollar store. They're great for smaller sticks (I think I can fit anything up to about 4.5-5") and they have some a little smaller that work nice for pipe tobacco.

I use acrylic jars for overflows, for sticks I am not sure I want to put in my wineador, and for cigars in my office. I have one that I added a 2 pack boveda holder to with some felt strips to keep it in place that worked particularly well.

Just be careful about longer term storage in glass because light degrades tobacco. For short-term, no issues.

Nice, simple, we like.

That's what I got the jars for in the first place - pipe tobacco bulk storage. You can jam 6 or 7 oz of ribbon-cut into a quart jar. I jammed a whole pound of Pirate Kake into a quart jar as well - it's pretty dense.

My solution for that is to wrap the interior with that thin sheet of Spanish cedar you get in between two rows of sticks in some boxes. Works great.

Mine are just in the windowless office in the basement, light gets turned on for a couple minutes each day as one lucky jar gets a little lighter. So still not ideal but not overly concerning.

That's a good idea - think I'll steal it!

Hmm, direct sunlight or does any light source at all degrade the tobacco?

Direct sunlight is the worst, other light is not as bad, no light is best, but as Tobias observes, a little light isn't going to kill the tobacco. Look at all the B&Ms w/ thousands of exposed sticks.

Duh, that's a good point. My Boveda pack covers all but the longest cigars in my little OXOdor. I will have to ask for more thin cedar sheets the next time I drop by my B&M.

A dude at work gave me a few infused cigars today, so I put together yet another jaridor. Since this one is for quarantining my infused sticks, maybe I should call it the quaridor:

Kind of like having a candy jar on the desk... only better.

Indeed - probably better for you in the long run :)

That reminds me, the same guy who gave me the infused sticks keeps a stocked humidor on his desk, in his office, locked. Totally unnecessary to lock it up in our work environment, but old habits die hard. He said he started doing it when he was in the service (Army Master Sergeant). He thought he was smoking too much as he had to keep restocking his desk humidor (which he wasn't locking at the time). Mind you, he smokes good cigars (unlike yours truly). Then he started noticing his cigars half smoked on the ground near the smoking tent. So the soldiers were just grabbing them like candy from a jar. That's when he got a humidor with a lock.
