Tobacco: Sutliff B33 Butter Pecan
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Black Cavendish
Pipe: MM Mizzou cob
Tin Note: Well, butter and nuts
Prep: Swirl and topped off. Tobacco did not stick when pinched.
Notes:
First of an aromatic tasting session tonight! LandonColby sent me a bomb of six aromatics, so I’m going to try to power through them in two days. We’ll see how that goes!
The Butter Pecan blend is part of the Ice Cream Shoppe sampler from P&C. At first light, I got a mild bite. The smoke was smooth, with a kind of buttery taste. For a while, I didn’t get much else, except a slight sweetness.
A bit later, I did pick up a mild hint of pecan, but it did not last.
The smoke was a little weak on this tobacco. Just to see what would happen, I freight-trained it for some good smoke; but it quickly turned acrid. I slowed it back down, and it went back to normal.

Tobacco: Sutliff Carmello J2
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Burley, Virginia
Pipe: MM Mizzou cob
Tin Note: Warm nutty caramel
Prep: Swirl and topped off. Tobacco did not stick when pinched.
Notes:
Number two of my aromatic tasting session!.
This one wants to bit real bad! Baby steps, uh, sips.
While trying to keep the bite under control, I noticed a nice room note accumulating. I smoke outside, so it was brief, but pleasant. The smoke is sweet, with a mild caramel flavor. I think my wife would enjoy being around this one.
I’ve had much better caramel aromatics, so I’d not choose this one to fill a caramel craving.

Tobacco: Peter Stokkebye 9F French Vanilla
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Cavendish
Pipe: MM Mizzou cob
Tin Note: Sweet, with a little vanilla
Prep: Gravity fill with a bit of a swirl on top. Tobacco did not stick when pinched.
Notes:
Number three of my aromatic tasting session!
This tobacco is almost like a mix of ribbon cut and some well-broken flake. It is part of the Ice Cream Shoppe sampler from P&C.
At first, the smoke is fairly nutty, without much vanilla. By this point, I’m being real careful with my cadence, so there is not much tongue bite.
I finally get some vanilla about halfway through the bowl, but it fades back out to a fairly bland, sweet smoke.
I do pick up some more and (slightly) stronger vanila close to the end of the bowl. Similar to the previous one, I’ve had better vanilla and if I was jonesing for vanilla, there are better options.

Tobacco: Sutliff Kentucky Blizzard
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Black Cavendish, Burley, Cavendish, Virginia
Pipe: MM Mizzou cob
Tin Note: Liquor and fruit
Prep: Gravity fill, then let the pipe sit a while.
Notes:
Day number two, and tobacco number four! (Hey, I’m no JimInks!)
I’ve never had the cocktail after which this blend is named, but I looked it up. The drink has bourbon, cranberry, lime, and grenadine. I definitely smell the bourbon casing, and some cherry; but that is in the bag. We’ll see about the smoke.
I enjoyed this one. The tobacco burned nicely, with no problems. Both the bourbon and the cherry came through nicely into the smoke.
If I puffed too hard the smoke did get a little acrid, but that was easily controlled by slowing back down.
I don’t think I’d be yearning for this type of smoke often, but for what this is going for, it isn’t bad.

Tobacco: Sutliff SPS 2007 Bourbon
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Black Cavendish, Burley, Virginia
Pipe: MM Mizzou cob
Tin Note: Bourbon, nuts, and chocolate
Prep: Gravity fill, then let the pipe sit a while.
Notes:
The “bag note” of this one is my favorite, so far - rich and boozy.
I was a little excited about this one. The first pipe tobacco I ever bought was whisky-flavored blend from a bulk jar at my local B&M.
This was a pleasant smoke. It burned smoothly and had a mild but nice flavor. The bourbon was not overwhelming, but definitely showed up often. Unfortunately, that was about it. I was wishing for more in this blend.
All in all, it was just ok. It was nutty and definitely had whisky added to it, but I was hoping for more. I guess my expectations were a little high, and I was ultimately disappointed by a perfectly reasonable smoke.
