I smoke with a pretty mixed group and its not uncommon for one guy to roll in for the evening smoke with a 6x60 gordo or 7x54 churchill, and someone else to have a robusto or corona. Even with smoking the exact same cigars, some of us will smoke them a lot slower than others will. This means some people will be done a lot earlier than the others and may be wistfully watching the others smoke for 30-45 minutes.
My solution to this has been to keep some small cigars around so the early finisher/short cigar guy can keep on puffing if he so desires. These are also nice to give out to occasional or non-serious smokers that drop in, so your not committing a full size cigar to someone who is likely to smoke an inch of it.
Currently I have for this role:
Tin of Obsidian White Noise half corona (3.5x46) which I got as a freebie ~$3/cigar - These are ok, but not what I would call spectacular
Tin of Cohiba Black Pequenos (4.1x36) ~$2/cigar - Again, nothing to write homeabout
Bundles of MUWAT Baitfish (4x44) ~$3.50/cigar - a very nice cigar, and one I smoke on short time occasions myself
I have also tried the Black Market Punk (4.5x42) ~$5/cigar which is quite tasty and a great 45 min. smoke
For me I prefer the Baitfish or the Punk, but I would like suggestions to stock some other small cigars that have good flavor and aesthetics, and that won't break the bank. Especially for the neophytes or occasional smokers, you want them to have a positive experience with the small cigar.

CAO Brazilla Pirahna 4 and half by 46. good smoke, lots of flavor only problem is that they are hard to find, at least for me. B& Ms dont seem to get supplied with them and they are also not on most internet shop sites for some reason. cigarplace.biz had some on a clearnace 5 pack deal recently but believe they dont have any more right now.
Fuente short story Cameroon are good short smokes but not cheap unless you can find a good deal.
some thoughts for you

It gets worn out as an answer but that's because it's always an answer. Illusione R (rothchilde). Between $3-$4. Extremely good cigar. 4.5 x 50

Just had my first Trinidad Reserve short smoke last night. I thought it was pretty good. Anyone else like these too/how do they rank for short smokes on everyones lists? Looking to get some more short smokes with the help of this thread! Thanks for posting :)

I'll second the Viva Republica Guerrilla Warfare. The L'Atelier Travailleurs, El Suelo Vuelos, Trocadero Ruelles, & Animal Cracker Cracker Crumbs are some tasty little dudes that come in 5 packs. The Ashton Half Corona's are an oldie but goodie to me.

Hehe, not handing any of those out to fast smoking friends, or neophytes!
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Papa Fritas.

This. Also like the 7-20-4 dog walker. The Hustler version just got listed in the top 25 best value smokes by Cigar Aficionado for the year.

It took 17 posts for my favorite small stick to come out. Hemingway SS all day long for me.
Also the Davidoff Nicaragua comes in a 3.7x46 short carona.
I've heard good things about the Oliva Special G maduros too but have not tried that one.

I tried the special G and wasn't impressed by either flavour or construction, but it was a sample of 1...

As far as NCs go these are my favorites in order of preference:
1) Guerilla Warfare
2) Cracker Crumbs (Great Flavor and big nic kick)
3) Tat Petite Caz.
4) Tat Verocu 5
5) Travailleurs (less nic kick than cracker crumbs and more complex flavor profile)
6) Papas Fritas
7) Bait Fish/Night Crawler
8) Hemingway SS Maduro
Haven't had the Jericho Hill Shots yet but I'm kind of expecting that to jump up to the #6 spot lol

Caldwell Murcias corona is another inexpensive, quality stick. Less than $4 by the box.

If you're giving them out, you want maximum bang-for-buck. Since you've mentioned these are also for casual/non-smokers, the label might warrant some consideration as well. Lots of great suggestions so far, I'll second the Papas Fritas, Illusione R, Short Story, and a number of others.
But I think the best response I could give would be that there's a whole world of small, delicious petit coronas out of Cuba that are perfect for what you're looking for: H Upmann Half Corona, Ramon Allones Small Club Corona, Boli Coronas Junior, Partagas Shorts, San Cristobal El Principe... all would, impress your friends, taste great, and all of the ones I just listed are regularly under $5 a pop.

I may or may not already have some Upmann half coronas and Quinteros Brevas :) Definately something to share more with a knowledgeable Bum, than a perhaps want to be... Especially with that little extra kick those cigars seem to have.

For now I re-upped with some more Baitfish, but I will be keeping all these suggestions in mind and try to catch them on the cheap.
