I am in the market for a new lighter... Gifted my XiKar Element to a friend, so now I just have the Lotus L48 Apollo.
Looking for something dual torch, black, stainless or brushed finish, with a very modern look, under $100.
Any suggestions?

Looked that site David, the only one I like is the Lotus 52 Orion, and I kinda wanted something different.

Try buylighters.com, that is our all lighter site. We only have 1/4 of our lighters listed on cheaphumidors. Dual Flame or Double Flame? The Vector Armor is one of our top selling dual flames, not too expensive

Buy a zippo and swap out the insert. I have a dual flame and a single flame. You can't beat the coolness of a zippo.

People on here will eventually call me a xikar whore but you cannot beat their warranty and customer service. They are now even offering some lighters in a soft flame instead of the micro torch.

Am I right to assume that high altitude lighters are better constructed to withstand higher vapor pressures inside the lighters at high altitudes?
My follow up question would be: could those lighters hold isobutane at sea level without the potential of rupture due to their better interior construction?

As we are on the subject, Anthony, do you like your Lotus 48 and would you recommend it for someone looking for a cutter/punch and lighter in one?
I've had one on my wish list for awhile, and I've been looking for something that I can toss in my pocket when I'm on the go so I don't have to carry a cutter/punch as well. I hate a bunch of crap rattling around in my pockets. I want one tool to do it all. Would the 48 be good for that?
For this purpose, it doesn't have to be pretty, but compact, durable and reliable. A cigar lovers foot-soldier tool.

Yes, I love the 48... Definitely would recommend it.

I've been very happy with my Prometheus lighters - both the Ultimo X and the Magma T (table lighter). The punch cutter on the bottom works great as well.

Do yourself a favor and go with Dupont Maxijet. They're the most consistent torches out there based upon consumer reviews and my own experience. Or go with a Xikar since you will eventually use the warranty. Torches aren't made to last. Those are the two most practical options.
Lotus is crap. Plus the customer service is almost non-existent. I would highly recommend not purchasing one unless you want a mantel piece.

If you are patient you can find them for cheaper even.
Moreover I bought mine secondhand for very very good price.

Interesting, because I haven't had a single issue with my Lotus. But yes, I agree on the XiKar comment. Have had two of them, neither has lasted very long before I needed the warranty.

Yes to the first question and I have no clue to the second question. I can ask one of my lighter reps on Monday

I appreciate it. Also, if one uses an adapter to introduce an isobutane/propane mix, what's the greatest percentage of propane that could be in the mix to avoid explosion if left in a hot car at moderate altitude, say 120 F at 875 mbar.

Sorry for the huge delay, but it took emails to 4 different reps to find an answer to this question. According to my rep at Colibri:
" Isobutane it is very unstable at any altitude and should never be used in a butane lighter"

Looking for something different... I personally have owned one of these (Black Label Presidente) for the last two years as my primary lighter. Lit well over 400 cigars with it with no issues. I love the flat flame. Benefits of a torch but gentle on the cigar like a soft flame.

I have a Xikar ELX in gunmetal and it is a dual torch. My B&M had it for $80 but I've seen it cheaper online.
It's basically the updated Element, I'm told.

Agreed! I love the flat flames. Another option for a less intense flame is the Blazer PB207 Wide Flame. It gives you the flame of a match without interruption:

While I do admit I have used my Xikar warranty for my lighters and my cutters. The first lighter was the Enigma. Had it for almost 10 years before I used the warranty. It still worked fine but looked like it had been through a war. I bought it pre fake leather sheath era. They didnt ask any questions just sent me the enigma II with a leather pouch. I have had that one for about 6 years now with no issues at all. I have a second lighter from Xikar, the ELX its currently only 2 years old but also no problems at all. My first cutter was the Xi and it too was over 10 years old when the blades got dull I sent it in and got a new one no questions asked. It too was pre leather pouch era and now has the pouch without my having to ask for it. Maybe I am just lucky with them but their customer service blew Colibri, Dunhill, and Prometheus. All of which they eventually fixed for a service fee and all were less then 2 years old.

I am not one to get too excited about lighters or cutters, or anything else like that, so I definitely would recommend something on the less expensive side...therefore, I like the Vertigos and JetLines, as well as the Ronson dual jet lighter...spend ten, twenty bux, no more...it's a simple job it has to do! A cheap lighter produces flame just like the high end ones...sure, the better ones have warranties, but what works better for me is to have several lighters scattered about where I need them to be. A couple in the truck...one at the hot tub...one on the ashtray in the garage...a couple in the war bag. If one of 'em gets lost, no biggie...
I have one higher end one...works as good as the cheap ones, but that's just me. To me, I can spend $150 on a lighter...or on a box of premium ceegars...hmmmmm...lets see here...
Hello Anthony, hope your enjoying that Lotus Apollo
The Lotus L53 Scorpion may fit your needs.
I picked up a gray one last year and it's one of my favorite lighters. It's dual flame comes to a point (think upside V) and functions well as a cigar lighter. It has a fuel window, fold out cigar punch and it lights by hitting the "start" button. It's a single stage lighter as the cover opens and the lighter lights with a single push of the start button. I can light about 6 cigars on a full tank and I'm heavy on butane as I do a full toast to completely light a cigar which takes a little longer standard lighting methods so I use more fuel.
If you need any more details, feel free to let me know.

Wouldn't the Xikar lighters be a little less $$$ if they weren't replacing 10yo lighters that were working perfectly fine?

Maybe a little. Most companies play a service life for an item and hope it lasts that long. Good companies warranty their items for that period. The best companies charge a premium and warranty their items for life.

Not to be a dick but I'm pretty sure Xikar doesn't warranty pocket wear and tear on a 10yo lighter. I use to know a guy that bought all his clothes from L L Bean and would get free replacements every 6 months or so.

Well maybe they just liked the fact I was loyal after 10 years. I just know I sent an enigma back after emailing them and they sent me an enigma II because they didn't make or repair the enigma. I must admit it wasn't free. It cost me $5 in postage. They sent the sheath to keep it in also so the finish wouldn't look so bad in the future. Believe it or not doesn't matter to me I get nothing from them except a good product and great customer service. In return they get my loyalty. Something many other manufacturers have not been able to earn like colibri or palio.

Okay my brother. Here are some facts. Most lighters are made in China with Chinese 10,000 light Pizo and Chinese jets which have blowouts. I deal with hundreds of stores and here the same thing from most. 1 out of every 4 Xicars come back for repair. Vecto is a good cheap lighter, but does not last. Lotus and Colibre are over priced for their quality. And Blazer is not what it used to be. The most reliable and popular lighter in almost every store I go to is the JetLine New York. They use Swiss jets and German 100,000 light Pizo electronics. It sells for $20.00 give or take $2. Triple flame version is the best. I have had several and gave them as gifts. They all still work and the one I use is five years old, been in the river twice and through the washing machine. It still lights first time, every time. They have a lifetime warranty as do the others, but the trick is not to have to use the warranty. JetLine has the best track record of all of the other brands.
Also good lighter maintenance should be used.
Use Good quality butane.
Bleed your lighter before you refill.
And use canned air to blow out jets from time to time.

Jetline is a solid line of lighters, and tough to beat the price. I have just been with Xikar since pre-lighter days. When it was only knives and cutters. They have always taken great care of me and I havent found a need to switch to a different manufacturer. I must admit none of mine have been in the river...yet. They both know the washing machine quite well and my cutters love the dishwasher.
