I'm new to this forums but not new to the game, I just came back from smoking cigars and hitting up the forums and was enlightened that my old buddies started their own forum and man am I excited. Can't wait to get back into the groove of things!
Thanks Don!

Here it is so far - put it in the smoke box at about 0800.

(not sure why it came in two pieces; maybe Mrs. Bruck just bought 2 small ones)
Rubbed with olive oil, Penzey's BBQ 3000, and the spice packets they came with. Smoking with briquets, apple, mulberry, cherry, and pistachio shells.

What flavors do the pistachios impart on the meat?

A little nuttiness (of course :)). But just the shells, not the nuts - the oils would be bitter and acrid. Supposedly other tree nut shells work for smoking, but I've just tried pistachios as they're the only nuts whose shells I can accumulate in quantity. I have tried peanut shells, but their smoke is like burning paper.
