Got a five pack of Illusione Epernay and I noticed what looks like a fine powder on them. They all look the same and it isn't real obvious just in the right light. The camera seemed to pick it up pretty good. What do you think. Could it be mold, plume, or something else?

Bloom?

Does it wipe off? My thoughts are a mild pluming, or simply a hairy-like structure to the leaf. Doesn't look like mold to me. Could just be dust from the box they originated from.

It does wipe off pretty easily. It doesn't look like any mold I've seen on cigars. It is very uniformly covering the cigar in what is almost a white powdery substance.

How long ya had 'em?

In before, "It's never plume." :stogie:
But seriously...it's never plume. Right?
You use kitty litter for humidity control? Sometimes that generates a little dust, but if you say it's uniform across cigars then that answer doesn't sound right.

Looks like sheetrock dust.
I think this is the first time I can actually say that doesn't look like mold.

I only clicked on this thread for the lulz.
I expected to see some greenish, splotchy, spiderwebby growth that was most prevalent about the cap.
I also expected that greenish growth to be called 'plume' and this to be vehemently defended.
But neither has happened. I go now.
Btw, I don't know what that dust is on those cigars.

I'm going with sheetrock dust, doing any remodeling?
In all seriousness, I'd go with dust

Surprised to say, but that actually looks like plume.
Is plume really so rare that we'd suggest something like sheetrock dust? It's as if we just can't accept that plume might actually exist.

Just got them yesterday from Small Batch Cigar.

Snort it off the cigars. See if you get a buzz. If no buzz then I vote plume

Could just be dust from the box they originated from.
My vote^^^ in my experience, the spanish cedar cigar boxes are never finished with much detail, and I don't remember Illusiones being wrapped in cello.

I always say "It's mold," before reading the thread.
But it looks like you have plume.
Is it sparkly in the light? And not fuzzy?

It's coke. Definitely coke.

Drywall dust, cedar dust, kitty litter dust, coke, fairy dust...ANYTHING but plume.

How were these Cabaiguans? Were they Guapos?
If I hear that they age well, they may be in the front running for box #1.

They are Corona extra not the Guapos. If you enjoy a mild smoke they are very good with age.

I prefer the Guapos so far, but I would say that that should tell me what the Guapos will do with age. Hope Hope....

If dust, wipe off, no worries.
If... 1.plume. 2.Coke. 3.Stardust.
Bonus...Smoke 'em whilst listening to some vintage Grateful dead and enjoy the trip.

I have a few boxes from 2008 that look like that. I'm on the plume wagon.

I had some of that on some Montecristo CC's that I bought in Mexico. Wiped it off and smoked one, one of the best cigars I've ever had :) I'm guessing just some plume.

All of you guys are wrong. This is what plume/bloom looks like.

However I have had the same thing on a Nica Rustica.

His could still be plume, just the beginnings of it.

I was just being sarcastic. Whatever it is, it isn't mold. It could very well be the starting of plume

Well, here's the best I could do at capturing what I think may possibly, but not unequivocally, and yet potentially...my first actual plume sighting.
This was on a Camacho Triple Maduro that I'd had in the humi for about 2 years, and it had a fine, sparkly dusting of crystals all over it. It almost looked like glitter. Smoked great and whatever it was, it wasn't mold. That's my story anyway.
