Tupperdor Question

I know this may sound redundant, but I've started a new large tupperdor. I want to use a bunch of old cigar boxes as trays. They've been in the closet a while and they're really dry. I'm guessing they need to be seasoned. I also covered the bottom of the tupperdor with Spanish cedar slats. I placed a sponge soaked with distilled water on a plate into the tupperdor. And I also put in the 7 dry old boxes in there. How long will it take to get everything seasoned?

I would guess, based on Herf N Turf's humi seasoning guide that you'd be looking at 4-5 days. Of course you could probably speed that up by wiping surfaces with distilled water since you aren't really worried about warping in this case. How big is the tupperdor?

It's a 46L Watertight. Current RH is at 58% after about 12 hours. I'll let it sit for a few days. What's the cutoff, though. 75% RH?

leave it for a few days until the hygro shows at least 70%, possibly more. That'll mean that absorption by the cedar has slowed down and the humidity of the air is rising. Remove the source of humidity and let the hygro stabilize. If lower than your preferred RH, leave the water plate a day or two more. If spot on, insert cigars and favorite humidification media. If still too high (doubtful) the let it air for a while and repeat the test.

I did pretty much exactly the same thing with a 3 gallon sized tupperdor and three 69% boveda packs. Per my hygrometer, it started at about 62% and after a month is up to 66%. I loaded it after a couple of days with about 150 cigars that had been sitting in wooden desktop humidors and were already properly conditioned (and I like my cigars on the dry side). So don't know if that would have slowed down the increase in rh. I think it was the dry cigar boxes and cedar sheets I used. So anyway, for me it's been a very gradual climb in RH. Btw, temp has been steady at 68-69 degrees.

a tupperdor really dose not need seasoned because usuallly the cigar boxes do not absorb as much moisture that the thick spanish cedar in a humidor. with the two tupperdors i have made with box trays i have loaded with the cigars tossed boveda in and shut it and have not had a problem yet

Well, new tupperdor has stabilized at 68%. Thank you, guys, for your sound advice and suggestions.
