Tobacco: Mac Baren Navy Flake
Age: unknown
Blend Contents: Burley, Cavendish, Virginia
Pipe: Savinelli Roma 626
Tin Note: dried fruit, light and dark raisins, apricot?
Prep: Fold and stuff

Notes:
My last smoke of the day, and I’m glad I chose this one.
The flake was already well dried (it was a sample from Tony78. I know, I’m sounding like a broken record with that, but the man hooked me up with a lot of samples!) The flake were breaking apart, laterally, so I pinched together the right amount of “lines” and folded into thirds and stuffed them in.
This is a well rounded tobacco. I can pick up the hay notes from the virginia, and a creamy nuttiness (I assume from the burley), and a light sweetness. I don’t get much of a rum note, but I’m not sure how old this is, so it may have reduced with time.
The smoke is smooth and buttery, and very satisfying. I think everything comes together in this tobacco to make a great smoke. Nothing stands out, destined for greatness, but I was happy with the smoke.
By the end of the smoke, I am feeling the nicotine, but it is not overwhelming.
This made for a very pleasant end to the day. I’m going to pick up some more of this.

It's hard to go wrong with any navy flake, IMO. Nice review.

I agree. No complaints with one yet.

Bryan, I know exactly how you feel.
When Tony and I hooked up in the NST I only had a few blends. He blew my doors off and it seemed like every bowl I smoked for a freakin month came from him. :pipe:

I like the MB Navy Flake too. I've found in my few short months of enjoying a pipe that I love me some Virginia tobacco and I love it in flake form. I've tried a couple of Navy flakes and enjoyed them both.

Thanks for the reviews.

Great review. I've heard people say that the Erik Stokebbye's 1931 Navy Flake is the same as this but I disagree. This definitely has more of those creamy and buttery notes where the 1931 has more hay and high notes. Excellent review!
