Hey all,
So not sure if this is general knowledge or not, but I came across a trick on cigar bid that can save you on some shipping. I am not sure if it was a fluke that it worked for me or not but here's what I did.
Basically I set delayed shipping for Thursday. If I don't win enough items to justify the shipping I will wait until Wednesday afternoon to change my shipping preference to Tuesday. What this does is pushes shipping off until the following week. Come Friday I will change my shipping preference back to Thursday and see if that gives me even more time. If you pay attention and stay on top of it, this could be a way to make sure you get a bulk of items in one shipment (assuming you are patient enough to wait).
Your mileage may vary but it may be worth a try.

I think a lot of us probably do this. But I'm afraid if we publicize it, the ability to manipulate the day of shipment will go away. So I've kept it on the down low.

Did it a couple months ago, it worked. I'm trying it again to get a couple more sticks that end after the ship date. I have a feeling that if you keep doing it for awhile they'll auto-ship anyway, but I could be wrong.
I don't think cigarbid really cares, it saves them having to pack and ship multiple boxes.

Storage costs are what would drive them to not like us doing this.

You know how much money I have saved from Cbid by just simply not logging in! That place is evil, so I stopped buying stuff.

He's most likely to click "ship it yesterday" and lose out on the tactic altogether.

You posted this on a cigar forum where one of their customer service people is a member and ya thought that was a good idea?

I honestly didn't realize that a cigar bid customer service rep was a member here. If this "trick" somehow violates a cigar bid policy or it is deemed inappropriate mods feel free to remove the thread. I just hoped to save some BOTL/SOTL some money on shipping. As an aside, I would think that looser shipping options might prompt people to buy more often if auction dates don't align for bulk shipping...just my two cents...
Again, sorry if this thread is inappropriate.

If they really cared, it would be really easy to program the system to "force close" an invoice (and send it to the shipping department) after a certain number of days. Again, I doubt very much they care. 99.9% of bidders don't do it and the ones that do probably buy more stuff than they would if they couldn't do it.

I've done this just to catch something that I knew I was probably going to win, that closed the same day as my ship date. Put it off until the following week so it all goes together. I don't think they really care if you manage to get a shipment put off a week. Doing it multiple times in succession is excessive, and a good way to potentially get the loophole shut.
While I'm not sure if it's something we should discuss publicly, I have no doubt cbid is aware of this, and aware that people take advantage of it. If they wanted to shut it down, they could do so pretty easily. I can't pretend to speak for them, but I'd hope as long as it's not abused, they'll leave it the way it is.
ETA: Exactly what Ropey just said^^^^^
