View Full Version : Calling All Cigar Bums, I Need Your Opinions

Hey everybody! I know when Cigar Bum first launched, everyone was talking about how much they disliked the myriad of ads on Puff that were constantly popping up and getting in the way. Don and the other admins/mods have made is very clear that they wants to keep the advertising on Cigar Bum to a minimum and keep it relevant to our wonderful hobby (which is one of the many reasons we love them).
However, as we all know, maintaining a forum like this takes a lot of time, effort, and money. After tossing around some ideas with Don and David, I think we came up with a pretty good idea on how to help raise money for the site.
I was thinking of creating a Cigar Bum’s Sampler and launching it on Cheaphumidors.com. We would then donate all of the profit from each sampler to Cigar Bum. So what I need from you all is to know:
1) Is this something you guys would be interested in?
2) If so, what cigars do you want in your sampler?
Mods, feel free to move this if this is not the appropriate place

This is an awesome idea!! Gives the site a way to pay some bills, and us a chance to try some delicious cigars.
As far as the cigars go, would doing either 2 or 3 tiers be possible? Something like an entry level sampler, middle or the road sampler, and then a higher end one?

I think this is a great idea. Possibly once we are big enough even getting a limited release for Cigar bums only or first similar to the La Zona Sarsaparilla for CigarDojo.

I would totally be in for this!
But only if you deliver them to me wrapped in a garbage bag and make the trip in a shopping cart... (use of rail cars would be acceptable)
As for what should go in them, I'll leave that to some of the more experienced members of this group.

Love this idea! The tiered samplers is also a great idea because it will likely have more buy in from budget conscious Bum's! Thanks Kayla for throwing your support towards the site! Hopefully other vendors are taking notice of the great example y'all are setting!

Tier 1: $2-$4/stick
Tier 2: $6-$8/stick
Tier 3: $12ish/stick

Kayla, you may have invited a lot of work for yourself with your very kind suggestion/offer! But I suppose that’s really a good thing for you, and I know it's good for us.
Here’s a suggestion, offered absolutely free and probably worth every penny: a “Kayla’s Cigar Bum Selection” where you can list deals on merchandise other than cigars that you personally recommend and/or are recommended by the Bums. (This would have the side benefit of encouraging Bums to provide you with valuable feedback on your products.) Selection items could include products from any category you sell -- humidors, lighters, cutters, whatever -- and might consist of discontinued items, overstocks, scratch-and-dents, slowly moving items, special purchases or regular stock. The only criterion would be great bang-for-the-buck. Selection items could change as often as you need, anything from “while current supply lasts” to indefinitely.
You might have a particular cutter that Bums have consistently praised, and you find yourself temporarily with more than you want in the warehouse; or a shipment of otherwise-perfect digital hygrometers that came with bad batteries, and while you can get a rebate from the manufacturer you don’t want to bother with swapping the batteries; or a humidor that’s Really Good but for some reason just isn’t selling, and you need warehouse space. Make these items Selections, offer a Bums’ discount, and explain what makes them exceptional deals. Some other Selection items might be of such exceptional quality that no discount or value-added item would be necessary -- just your personal recommendation or testimonials from Bums who have and use them.
None of these have to fit into a particular budget category, although you’d probably want to include some Selection items in all price ranges from time to time. The Bums love you and Cheap Humidors -- well, mainly we love finding bargains -- and we’ll appreciate anything you do that works to our mutual benefit.
