Calling All Pipers!!! Help Needed...

Now that I have your attention :)

In another place, in another time we had a wonderful pass and accompanying thread where guys sampled and reviewed OTC tobacco. I would love for us to have something similar here and all I need are some volunteers :pipe: I have quite a few pouches of OTC blends that have been kept in Mason Jars, unopened since their purchase, so they're fresh and ready to go. What I propose is this:


Sign up in this thread for the project
PM me your mailing info
I will send you an unopened pouch
Smoke three bowls and do with the rest whatever you like
Write a review and post it in a thread I will start for them
Sit back and enjoy everyone else's reviews


I have enough to do this with 20 different people (each with a blend). Please note that you will not be able to decide what you get...but I swear I won't send anyone Mixture 79! I just think this would be really fun and if we have enough response we could sticky it in the Reviews forum. I will send them out as you sign up and if the well of volunteers runs dry, I 'll allow people to take a second go around.

I love the idea. OTC is easy to come by and usually not pricey. Some of it is very good. Great idea for a sticky for noobs or people looking for something to carry in the car/yard and not worry about it.

Tobias, as much as I would love to do this, I can not as I have a feeling you will send more stuff in the box. I am packed to the gills with baccy. For some reason, I did a trade with this guy on here and he sent enough tobacco hitch hikers to last me 10 years. I will let someone else do it who wants some free samples.

May I suggest, if possible (and if you know Tobias) that the year of manufacture (may be on the pouches) be included with the review. It may or may not assist to see how the blends (seem to) change over time.

I was called to help a buddy (I do some paid under the table millwright work) for an emergency... I smoked some Prince Albert in a cob on the way home around 5 am. I'm thinking the dust I was covered in had something to do with my getting flavors right. This is a plant that makes cow licks, deer blocks and other livestock supplements... the dust was primarily: powdered chicken feathers, corn of course, powdered urea, and something that always makes my eyes burn. Had some molasses all over me too... I'll retry it because I'm pretty sure what I smoked last night is not how Prince Albert really tastes.

I just had a package sit in Ft Worth for 6 days before they pained themselves to bring it to my house. Gimme a break. Last year was consistent with 2-3 day priority mail to anywhere in the US for me.

Indeed, I mailed them two days before if I remember correctly.

I don't know, maybe I am just lucky, but I find that anything mailed to me be it priority or 1st class pretty much gets here in 2-3 days. Regardless of where from the country it is coming from.

I think it has more to do with how the shipping routes lie than it does location you're shipping too.

You are most kind but I'm absolutely not the person to review this mixture. Please bless a more deserving person with it and thank you. I review poorly and I don't smoke anything other than traditional English / Virginia mixtures. This forum is blessed with many good reviewers so I recuse myself based on my prejudices.

Given my recent tobacco shopping spree and good fortune, I though that, following in your generous footsteps, of also offering samples for review. It would be Virginia Flakes from Gawith Hoggarth and Peter Stokkebye and perhaps a few others. I'd probably be ready to start in about 2 weeks (waiting for more vacuum sealer bags). If this is acceptable can I ask for your assistance? I'd send you a list of the mixtures and if you could set up a new thread and conduct the selection of volunteers as you did here then send me the participant information and I'd send out the weed.

I suggest that we call this a 'Lutzing' or doing a 'Lutz'. OK, so I'd like to hit the forum with a LUTZ.

I would love to get in on this since I missed the first round. I am a newcomer to pipes but have been reviewing cigars for a while, and smoking them for a long while. What really piqued my interest was your mention of Gawith. I have been smoking their Full Virginia Flake and I think very highly of it. I'm game to try something new and post a review. If I'm out of line, I apologize in advance. And thanks to TL for all your contributions.

Well mine finally showed up... Friday. Finally got tired of waiting and checking the mail box twice a day so went into the office and complained about the tracking # showing card left but nothing in the box. Woman replies, oops must have forgot the card. Oh well its here and I actually had this on my list for my next order to try,so thanks again. I'll try to get to the review asap. You explore the paradox of man, over time, in a single sentence. I'd begin my doctoral thesis by breaking the sentence into it's three coherent parts;

I like it be could --- totally understand some wouldn't consider it --- their cup of tea.

Toddler - Trying to express an opinion that they can not form.
Young man - Certain in their own opinion, cordial to a differing opinion but with an undertone of hostility.
Mature man - Acceptance that their opinion and others can mutually exist (but expressed in a homily that shows disdain and contradiction).

I hope you don't mind the gentle ribbing. I've written and posted sentences that were understood by no one, including me.
